If the deal in Cairns is played right by the club we could recieve benefits far greater than Hawthorn have in Launceston.
"By 2011, the population of Cairns is predicted to be 182,000, making it significantly larger than major Victorian provincial cities Ballarat and Bendigo and comparable to the City of Geelong." Combine this with the fact that a lot of people in Cairns love AFL and watch it all the time, this is a huge opportunity for us.

The population of Launceston is 103,000. Given people there follow NRL as well this would make the market for us in Cairns equal to that Hawthorn has in Tassie, if not greater. We should try and sell off a few games a year there which would otherwise be played interstate at similar sized stadiums or that would be played against low drawing teams at the dome. This would equal cash in the bank and more members and exposure!

It gonna be something we look back on after the three years when we are debt free and say we made the right chioce, i think we are better served playing in front of 10,000 in cairns and banking the $$$ personally

Having lived in NQ for a few years , i can tell you that we have a pretty large following up there, Cazalys will rock, was up there one night we played north at the g and watched it in the big screen and it felt like i was at the g with all the noise.

Th surface at cazalys is good, the only concern will be the recovery for our boys the week after the game, its very humid at that time of the year up there so it will knock them about.

Luv ya work Benny.
Puts out the red herring with The tassie deal, the "loos" jump at the chance, thinking they will miss the bus and dilute the market with 2 teams playing there and we come out and latch onto the new direction against the team that all and sundry will want to know about, G Ablett mania etc, in a totally new market. Bonus is, that weather makes it a draw card for southern tigerheads to make it a holiday as well.
It pays to have smart dudes in the chair. ;)

July is very good humidity wise...might seem a bit warm if coming from the depths of winter, but still not like a summers day or anything...perfect in fact. Best time to play it as it is less likely to rain.

Why do people assume we will put the cash toward debt? GC money never went there

By definition it earns us more money which means we can better service our debt.

Great club initiative, although in saying that I was planning on booking a trip to Tassie, then Brisbane, now Cairns haha.

So it's more likely we will stick the cash into general revenue and we'll see the club come begging the members ala Melbourne

You're contradicting yourself.

All money gets put into general revenue and a large slice of that revenue gets put towards servicing club debt. Both Cairns and donations help pay this off.

You really think WE are goig to make fans up there...

As opposed to the new QLD team, which will have lots of AFL development money to throw around who will claim to have ties to the region, they're going to support the Victorian team that is clearly just there for the $'s.

Right.

Admit it, this is purely and simply a cash grab, selling members benefits (ie, home REAL games ) and home ground advantage for cash with any additional benefits going to the other team. But don't worry, RFC_OFFICIAL has told us we'll still pay full price for our membership ( sorry "unchanged prices" ) even though now we'll only get entry to 9 home games and 2 away games.

But hey, we've asked the AFL if, pretty please, they can make that an Etihad game we lose and as the AFL has such a great history of helping us out with scheduling, I'm sure they'll do as we ask...right?

Not contradicting myself at all. The debt won't be reduced by one cent through this cash grab venture.

If the debt gets paid it will happen via mimicking the debt demolition begging project Melbourne embarked on.

Next we'll be sprouting the fairy land "expand the brand" BS that people for whatever insane reason like to believe.

we will put it in the shoe box marked "debt"

that's how it works isn't it?

Ha ha close in a sense. We should be asking the AFL fir the money front up and sending it straight to the bank that holds the loan. That way there is no chance for anyone in the club to piss it away

Won't happen though.

I could half tolerate beginning the new Nth Melbourne if something constructive was being done with the funds.

Yeah...how many people do you know who get a pay rise/promotion and promise themselves they'll use the extra $'s to pay off their debts...but hey, you know, they really NEED that new plasma...and that holiday gets a few days longer at a 4star place rather than 3 star...and soon enough, they find all the extra money is going out and if nything they end up in more debt because they can afford more now...

And how many of the people getting those pay rises are going to get voted out of power for spending the extra money on plasmas & holidays instead of doing what they say they're going to do?

Stupid comparison.

Are you suggesting March will get voted out if the debt doesn't come down? The debt has risen in the time his team has been in power, yet he still has a loyal army of fan boys , including some popular websites that exist to push the agendas of the owner.

Zero chance March gets voted out. Particularly if the on field sorts itself out.

Yes, because every board election has a vast array of candidates with differing, clearly articulated, platforms.

I understood that there were to be "replacement" games for the 11 game ticketholders...which bit of that message didn't you understand:confused:

Which part of
"we'll only get entry to 9 home games and 2 away games."
didn't you understand?

'replacement' games != home games.
