Calder cannons were the best side in the Tac cup this year. besides b.mclean who will go top 10 for sure, what other calder players will get drafted. what do you reckon about hartigan, iacobucci, jolley, castello, davis, barling, clifton etc.

Bentick
Goullet
Dawson
Kent
Castello
Clifton

All have a chance, if not the National Draft, maybe the rookie list.

Everyone forgets about David Trotter. He hardly played for them this year but on draft day it will say he was drafted from the Calder Cannons.

Goullet is a chance too. Freak junior footballer, but others have caught up recently. Yes, he is John Coleman's grandson, but no, there is no grandfather-grandson rule.

Is Trotter the guy from Assumption?

I reckon McLean and Trotter are certainities for the top 30.

Bentick and Clifton should be taken.

After that it gets murky - Calder were a very even team - I suspect Murray will have more draftees.

I like Hartigan and Iacobucci, but both are below 180cm and that usually spells trouble. Kent I'm doubtful on. Goullet is OK but there are plenty like him in the draft - possible rookie list.

Dawson is a chance because of his athleticism and height, but he couldn't ruck at AFL so not convinced either.

Iacobucci is a bottom age and should go next year - goullet will probably get a pre-season at essendon. Bentick may go to Hawthorn or Sydney as a late 3rd/ 4th round pick.

How do you know this, inside information or just a guess, its like saying Bentick may go to one of the 16 clubs your cant say that even if your on a recruiting team at a club, Jolley has another year, looks promising, goulett is just unfortunate hes body has caught up with him along with everyones elses, he would have to be very lucky, Davis's athleticism is a bonus, kicks long is strong a good chance,
Clifton, Dawson, Mclean, Trotter, Bentick will all be taken at some stage, the rest of the others, its too hard to say, there are alot of players in the same height bracket, so its probably going to come down to clubs needs whether they see some value in the player 3 years down the track

Cheers

If Iacobucci doesn't go this year, he probably will go next year because he is a bottom age. He could have been playing in my team this year if he didn't have Calder commitments.

No way a specialist forward pocket would go in the top 10. Betts is talented but less so than David Rodan who is similar and went in the 30s, and even that was probably early.

Excatly right, clubs aren't desperately in need of FP's you can't really build a team around your forward pocket, they really come as a bonus, usually smaller players are developed into midfeilders anyway

No one should rule off all the contributors down in calders backline this year they were terrific, and for them not to get any recognition for all there efforts would be shocking. Players like hartigan, silvester, douglas, davis, etc should all be a chance for the draft if all the recruiters are on the ball. What do you guys reckon honestly??

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Coleman only played 97 games...

Essendon might take him, they've been known to do it in the past, a la Joel Reynolds...

So you guys reckon that Castello has got a chance of being drafted???

its just that i would like to see him drafted because he is a mate of mine.

Could be a chance, a good grand final makes ppl have a look, only thing against him is his size, but ya never know, some club my see potential, has had a pretty consistent season

There is no grandfather-grandson rule Cupestar, so it doesn't really matter how many games the great John played.

I always thought it was 97 or 98 but, I'm sure others will know.

Did anyone see Jesse W Smith (son of ex Roo Ross) play at Calder this year? I s he a future father/son player for the Roos?

ronnie davis had a pretty good year. what i saw of him he was pretty good. think he played in the vic team so he should be a gun next yr. but what i saw of calder i think that hartigan was the pick of the bunch besides mclean who will go top 10. word is he could be a late pick to one of the bottom clubs!!
