Draft Profile Callum Bartlett

Geeze! One highlights package from last year and everyone is hyping him up to the moon. You do realize he has a serious knee injury which probably took some of his pace and skill away and if he gets drafted, I doubt he'd play any games for his first and maybe second season.

Second rounder at most, 3rd round is where he'll likely be selected. Oh and WCE supporters, keep in mind the Eagles would almost certainly not recruit Callum if they take Jetta at #7 (Which is what they're interested in) because Jetta is pretty much the same type of player.

what's sort of injury does he have?

He has a full knee reco and did not test at draft camp as he was still recovering from the injury. One cannot tell whether he will lose any pace or skill, he may never fully recover or he may get back to his best, it is an unknown. Burgan rates him as a 30-50 pick, I think and many others on here think he could go as high as 24/25? He would be a very high risk pick with a very high reward, as he has not proven he has recovered fully. Also he could possibly play late next year or early in his second year, ala Tom Swift, who admittedly recovered in time for Draft Camp and had a preseason? He has from all reports been training and doing weights on his upper body and has bulked up a lot round the chest, so he appears to have a very good work ethic. Also this is not his first injury...

Was it crazy when Geelong took Selwood at number 7.

We are a club in a position to take risks

Selwood's a completely different case. Not only was his strength footballing ability and not speed, but he was touted as a top pick in a draft that wasn't shallow like this one. Bartlett's ability will be especially damaged because he relies on his speed a lot and when one of your ligaments are replaced, it usually slows you down (As for Selwood, he's dominated AFL as a slowish player). Not to mention, prior to Bartlett's knee injury, he wasn't even nearly as good as Selwood as a youngster. People really seem to be compelled to believe he's a first rounder after watching just one highlights video whilst not factoring in consistancy, defencive efforts etc.

i can't see him going first round unless geelong picks him. 25-30 i reckon. i rate him much higher than this

Thats the same as houghton but people were thinkin he would go to pick 19 for richmond and so on.

Grandblue. You say he is definitely gonna lose his pace then you say player don't always lose their pace. Thanks doc

Oh dear, clearly you have reading troubles. When did I say getting a knee reconstruction doesn't always slow a player down? Of course it does! I absolutely never stated otherwise. The only reason I said 'probably' in my first post because I wasn't entirely sure what the injury was but assumed so because I heard it was serious.

Grandblue, I've heard several clubs are interested in Bartlett at a first round pick. It's unlikely he will be taken then but if he isn't gone come third round then I'll start believing pigs fly.

Also Aaron Davey had two pretty bad knee reconstructions yet looks very fast. Alwyn Davey I think had one too and looks quick. Robert Murphy had a bunged up knee this year but was super quick last year. I'm sure there are plenty of others who have come back well from knee reconstructions.

In regards to Selwood it was never really a risk as Geelong saw a specialist who told them his knee is fine.

:thumbsu:Bartlett 22,then Griffiths at 23 would be nice.

Not every player you draft will make it, better it's injuries than talent that stops them. Dont want to make the mistake of rating them higher than they deserve just because they have been injured.

Not a bad concept, shame we did not snag another second round pick though.

Aaron has never had a knee reco. Has pulled his hamstring once or twice, but thats about it.

Swift did his ACL and still finished 5th in 20m sprints at draft camp, so it's do-able.

West Coast will take Barlett if he lasts to pick 22.

Teams most likely to take a punt on gun coming off a knee reco are genrally those with a few early picks where thay can afford, perhaps this kid to not come along.

Based on that and if he was as good as people are saying especially Emma Quayle, I'd say any of Dees, Port, NM or WCE with a pick in the teens or early twenties, or a team like the Cats that can afford abit of time for the kid to recover as it's unlikely any 1st player will break into that team in 2010.

So what other injury has he had?
