Someone will start it eventually, so I minus well be the one to start the thread.

Yes/no/maybe?

Personally not. With Laidler in the team, we don't really need him.

I minus well be the first to say no. :o

Can't see a great need for him especially at his age. Fine player over his career but I think we're pretty well off for half backs.

I do wonder though what BIB meant in the John Anthony thread when he said he hopes his mail is wrong the day before this announcement came out.

Yes.

I really rate Bruce and we could do with his composure on the field because too many times our side panics when the opposition gets a string of goals so we need some cool cats to keep the ship steady.

He has a lot to offer. He is by no means slow, very skillful, can fill a role anywhere successfully and can teach our youngsters a lot. Our pick 80ish draft pick has a 1% chance of offering us something so Cameron is the safer bet and we could really push top 4 with him this year.

You can never have too many good players.

maybe. If it means using PS pick or pick 80 in the draft or something like that. He is old but Carlton should be pushing top 4 this season so it doesn't really matter if he's only got 2 years or whatever left. He could help us get to a premiership in those 2 years.

Some idiot will start it eventually, so I might as well be idiot to start the thread.

Thats better, because to even have a yes/maybe in there shows how stupid you are as a poster.

How could any person even consider getting him.

The bloke is 31 years old.

Dont worry about Lucas, Laidler, Houlihan ect.

Lock this thread, your as bad as Peekay and Spudchamber sometimes.

Don't need him. Bruce wouldn't get a game in the middle. Elsewhere there are other options we should nurture: Collins, Davies, Lucas, Laidler, Tuohy, Dare and (perhaps) R'OK.

8 players on our list are 26+ years. The shopping list for this year should target long term replacements for this group.

If we got him on a 1 year contract and used him purely as depth, then I dont have a problem with it. However, we should be looking at long term replacements for the older guys in our list.

If we are looking at 2 years from him, dont want...

He's still a quality footballer that would be able to add something to most teams in the league, including ours.

I've got no doubt that he's able to contribute for 2 more seasons to a team that is nearing a premiership. However, I say no to him due to the fact that we aren't at that stage just yet.

If we were topping up and really close to a flag, needing something extra that may just push us over the line - then I'd most probably be all for it. But the reality of the situation indicates we just aren't there.

We could do a hell of a lot worse, though. I don't think we should go for him, but it's certainly not as bad a suggestion as many have made it out to be in this thread.

Many Carlton supporters have been calling for Gibbs to be released into the midfield. Had we not recruited Laidler, then Bruce may well have been a viable and serious option for this position for a few seasons.

However, it's clear that we're preferring youth to try and do that, hence the recruitment of Laidler.

So, it's a no to Bruce. Very good player still capable of contributing to most teams in the league, but I just don't think that we should go down that path.

Although if we did get him, and we used a pick in the PSD or late in the ND for it, then I certainly wouldn't be losing any sleep over that decision.

What on earth are you talking about.
You don't agree, so it isn't worth a thread.
we are a team nearing a premiership, and here is a 200+ game player for free, who is clearly a good option to release Gibbs (lets be honest, not many of us have seen Laidler play.) and it is a stupid thread.
Being 31 isn't necessarily a bad thing, as we lack experience.
If you don't think he is a good option, just say so, but personal insults for no reason aren't needed.

You made the thread beased on the fact that someone else was going to make it.

WTF.

Make a stupid thread all you want about old veterans, I dont want it locked because i disagree, its because you based it on the fact that somebody else was gonna do it if u didnt.

Make a stupid thread if you want it to happen.

Wow... has the AFL given the green light to Carlton that in the eventuality that we pick him up, hes doesnt take up a spot on our list.

Robs a young kid of a chance.

What kind of experience.

we are a team nearing a premiership
2012 and 2013 at that time Lucas and Co will be developing very nicley.

Melbourne are going about things the right way, slowly getting rid of the veterans and flooding in new unshown talent.

(lets be honest, not many of us have seen Laidler play.)
With Laidler in the team, we don't really need him.

Im not even gonna insult your lack of knowledge of Carlton and its list.

JS517, we aren't as close to a flag as you are suggesting IMO.

Don't think our window is opening in about two years. I personally don't think we are a threat next season (but then again i didn't think Hawthorn were either) but i believe experience will strengthen our squad, and will bring us closer to a premiership.

Whether that experience is Bruce or not is subjective (i could probably go either way), but there are some critical areas that need to be improved before we become a premiership team. Experience is one of those criterias

Very poor form, champ. No need to call someone stupid for starting a thread. Your not doing yourself any favours by insulting people for nothing. If you want to be respected on here keep the insults for the Collingwood or Richmond supporters.

Seen his name mentioned a few times in the last week as a player people think will make it.

I just think he might struggle to break into the side. Not many players have a huge impact after being delisted!! ;)

All indications seem to suggest that we'll be picking him up in the rookie draft.

He's not completely gone just yet.

It will keep houla honest and on his toes. The main way players play well is when they know there is true competition for their spot. It's healthy for the team.

Players play well because they're good players. Players who don't play well aren't good players. The only way a player who isn't a good player can play well is if he is allowed to appear to because the player he is playing on is not a good player or he is made to play well by good players around him. If I was a good player, I'd be determined to play well, not because I was insecure but, because of my determination.
