His last two marks covered up a shocking game.

He is playing like Tenace minus the pace. Slipping over, fumbling, playing on and getting himself into trouble, poor disposal, extremely slow across the ground (even for him).

What's wrong with him? Back still troubling him?

He still racks up the disposals and he uses them quite well!

The last mark was so courageous!

Ling's our best midfielder and I reckon he's been pretty good!
Ling our best midfielder, says a lot about why we struggle sometimes. We still lack the kind of guy I hope Tenace becomes quick as silver and as smooth as silk. Lings heart is bigger than his hair do but....

I dont think you guys should be worrying about Ling's disposal. I think Joel Coreys kicking, espicially in front of goal is more of a worry. He just seems to lack convidence recently.

He appears to lead the clanger count lately.

I still think he has had a great year.

Go cats!

Watching him a few times on the weekend, he looked like he was running without hamstrings. He's nowhere near %100 right, maybe it's still that back/buttock problem? His disposal/game in general was wrecked by our own tactics but he really looked shot to me.

Yeah, Corey's disposal can be worrying at times.

Ling's is pretty good!

If Tenace comes through, it'll be a major plus because of his pace.

But there isn't a problem with Ling being the best midfielder. His stamina is brilliant and you don't exactly have to be quick to be good.

Ling is our best midfielder - not by talent, silky skills or pace, but rather determination, courage, endurance and ability to keep going from start to finish.

He is one of the best distance runners in the comp, for those who disagree - go back to the match against Adelaide at Skilled earlier this season - when everyone else could barely keep going it was Ling who was sucking it in and pushing the extra yards to make contests and rack up 37 possies (or was it 39?)

He has also put himself on the line more than any other catter this season, the mark in the last qtr of the Port game in round 5 running backwards into Primus sticks out in my mind - and if it wasn't for Linger's saving marks in defence last week Richmond would've taken the game.

Rather harsh on Geelong's most important player!

Ling being our best midfielder, compliemented by Bartel and Kelly makes us a ploddy in the middle. One OK, two alright , three is pushing it.It means we sometime struggle when we play man on man to run of the recover. Ling has a heap of things I like but his speed isnt one of them.

Bartel and Kelly are medium paced midfielders. They'll look a lot quicker if they get some genuine pace in there. Look at West Coast, they seem like a really quick side but only have a couple of genuine speedsters in Wirrapunda, Judd and Sampi.

Excellent post, people need to watch Ling in the 2nd half when everyone else is slowing down and he's still going at the same tempo. That's why we call him Pepe Le Pew. Have to slightly disagree about one point though. He is important to us, but our most important player - by far - is Matty Scarlett.

Cameron Ling (aka "The Crab" or "Paddlepop Lion") is an extremely average footballer, to say the least.

Cannot question his heart and courage, but his disposal is right up there with James Manson (ex Fitzroy & Collingwood)

Considering he is touted as the next captain of Geelong, they are going nowhere fast if he is looked upon as a role model on ground.

A massive thumbs down for the Crab

I can honestly say if Ling is made skipper next season, i will be one very very satisfied Cats fan.

To anyone who doubts Linger ... think of a joke u can crack at 5:00pm on the last Saturday in September in 2006 when Ling and Bomber stand side by side and hold the cup in front of a roaring Geelong cheers squad!

I'd prefer Ling to be leading my team over Kouta(Carl), Lloyd (who will be ess captain next season), Bell(Freo), Vandenberg(Haw), Neitz(Melb), Simpson(Kang), K Johnson(Rich), Darcy(WB).

If that means only Roo, Voss, Bucks, Reiwoldt, Barry Hall and Cousins are ahead of him then I think he's in pretty good company in terms of leadership.

From an outsiders perspective - Ling would make a good captain. He would be better than King. Have to disagree with the above poster about him being a better captain than Kouta though, but generally right with the others.

Who else would be captain material? Kelly? Scarlett? Chapman?

As for Ling, rate him very highly, but Unwritten Law is right - his game wasn't that great and the last 2 marks really made it to be a better performance (match saving/winning even). He kinda hasn't be the same Ling this season. Still a good player, mind you - has he been under an injury cloud all season?

In all seriousness, Kelly and Chapman couldnt captain because they dont naturally ooze the leadership that Ling does.

Ling WILL captain Geelong when King gives the captaincy away (hopefully next season).

Kelly - not yet
Scarlett - no
Chappy - Yes
Tom Harley would be the other choice.
