I was one who thought he was in big trouble with his 'lack of pace'
But his effort last night was truly outstanding.

He was clearly our BOG through the first 2 quarters when the boys couldn't get going.

Not only was he given multiple tagging jobs but he was offensive for the first time in a long time.

Well done skipper !

The footage of him after he kicked 'that goal' was truly awesome.:thumbsu:

Above that, I applaud him for how he handled himself in the interview after the game. Think the coach could learn a bit from Ling, carried himself with class and dignity :thumbsu:

Dont understand this rubbish about him losing pace, he never had any pace to begin with. As long as he's tagging a player that isn't excessively fast he will keep up.

For a bloke with no pace he did pretty well to fly pass Goddard and take that mark in the last quarter and just about nailed that goal from the boundary. I never doubted the skipper:thumbsu:

You have more faith than I do. I think Ling has dropped a rung this year, so I'm so glad he showed his worth against the Saints.

He's now better suited to stopping the playmakers like Hodge and Goddard rather than the runners like Swan, Pendlebury and Dal Santo. I predict he'll play on Pavlich and (if the Cats win) O'Brien.

I don't think its completely conclusive he has, his never been quick and I think any drop off has been probably due to his back injuries, which he seems to be over now. Never under estimate what a back injury can do to your form, it takes away your ability to perform the 1%'s, which are very much apart of Ling's game.

Lingy was fantastic on Friday night - in our best 3 players in the first half when we were rubbish and one of the main reasons we got back into it in the second half.

Almost kicked that set shot from the boundary in the last quarter, too.
If not for that umpiring decision, the enduring image of the match would have been Ling down on his knees, arms raised in celebration after kicking the winning goal.

If Haselby gets a recall this week, I'd like to see Ling play on him. Apparently Haselby has been Freo's top possession winner the past 3 or 4 times he's played at the MCG, and he's not overly quick so Ling shouldn't have any trouble keeping up with him.

Yep, would have to agree Linga played very well, but no less than I expect from him. He has been "Mr Reliable" for a long time now! I admit he has appeared vulnerable on a couple of occassions this year, but overall (all things considered) has met my expectations.

It's when he brings his forward pressure, ie. goal scoring, to the field that he really excels. He showed a glimpse of that in Rd 22 against WC with his two goals.
