Its flawed with GC on one less game. Our points conceded per game is 1st
ridiculous really that things won't be evened out properly until the last round.
Why did the AFL schedule their byes in different rounds - the fixture is rooted!

Should have been able to play their game on a round they both had a bye - like Brisbane and Geelong did.

So random question here. The water carries for the club are they volunteering or are they part time employees? I notice this won women every week when we kick a goal and she’s out with the water, she’s been doing it for a while and I saw her again in Perth. I know I was a volunteer job back in the day but it’s just one of those questions that I’d like to know the answer to. She gets a lot of airtime in relation to the others doing that job, which just made me think perhaps it a seniority thing and she gets her choice.

On that I saw a Swans water carrier smiling and patting all the players on the back like, “omg I’m out here with my hero’s” good on her.

Geelong's thrilling victory over Collingwood has been marred by controversy, with Fox Footy pundit David King leading the charge in criticizing the umpiring during the final quarter. Despite the Cats staging an impressive comeback from a seven-point deficit at three-quarter time, the match was clouded by a series of contentious free kick decisions. The Cats were awarded 14 of the last 18 free kicks, propelling them to a 17-point lead midway through the final quarter. However, the Magpies mounted a valiant comeback, only to fall short when Jack Crisp missed a set shot after the siren that would have won the game. Among the most debated decisions were the call on Lachie Schultz’s shot in the dying minutes, which was deemed “touched” by Mark Blicavs, despite replays suggesting he missed the ball entirely. Another contentious moment came when Bobby Hill's chase-down tackle on Shaun Mannagh was penalized as a trip, a decision that King felt was particularly harsh, given that the tackle seemed within the spirit of the game. King, in his post-match comments, was vocal about his belief that Collingwood had been unjustly treated by the umpires, pointing out the pivotal nature of the last 12 minutes and suggesting that the Magpies had been "hard done by" in those final moments. His frustrations were echoed by former great Jack Riewoldt, who questioned the validity of the “touched” call on Schultz’s shot, suggesting that the ARC score review system was just as responsible for the controversial outcome. King even confronted Blicavs post-game, asking if he felt the umpires were favoring the Cats in the closing stages, to which Blicavs offered a diplomatic response, downplaying any concerns about the officiating. Magpies coach Craig McRae, however, refused to blame the umpiring for the loss, though he acknowledged that Hill’s free kick was “stiff” and admitted the team had missed other chances to secure the win. Despite the loss, Collingwood remains a top contender, and the Cats' victory lifts them to sixth on the ladder with a 5-3 record, while the Magpies are poised to lose their top spot depending on the result of Brisbane and Gold Coast’s QClash

I forgive Lethal for coaching us to a premiership 😜
Not the right thread so excuse the derailment but in hindsight did we err by getting rid of Lethal at the end of 94? Seemed to have a bit in the tank for the next decade? I was too young to understand the goings on at the time. Guess we’ll never know anyway

I thought we moved him on part way through 95? Hence his involvement in the 30th anniversary of AD.

100% we did. I still remember being at the footy with my Dad and he was yelling out to Tony Shaw - "did you get your knife back out of Leathals back?". He wasn't happy with it lol

Worst era in our history followed that. The biggest drought from making finals. Tony Shaw was a poor option.

We also repeated this error when we did the Malthouse/Buckley succession plan. Derailed a possible dynasty.

Yeah I wasn’t sure. I might ask one of the fossils in the appropriate thread. 😂
There’s plenty around these days, but I think we’re of a similar vintage so I can provide an educated guess. We were moving on from the McAllister/ Matthew’s era and wanted Shaw because like Buckley there was a chance he’d go elsewhere. I think it was announced mid year and he coached out 95.

not a fossil yet, I hope - but I do remember sitting through loss after loss after loss in the mid to late 90s.
And then, watching Leigh Matthews coach 3 Premierships and 4 consecutive grand finals elsewhere - so he still had it, granted with some very generous leg up assistance from the AFL!

Leave the thread now, Kes - you're getting triggered.

His brother Ray was a great coach

If it makes you feel better Carlton and Essendon supporters our age have seen just 4 finals wins combined since they were teenagers 😂

Let’s hope we don’t repeat the error a third time with fly to pendles
