BULLDOGS
Ok this is probably a stupid question, but can stress lead to hair falling out? I know this person who is a bit stressed out, and after having a shower, some of her hair falls out, but shes to scared to go to the doctors.
Any help would be great so i can pass it on to her.

Many many years ago, working at my first full time place of employment, we had a lad working on the factory assembly floor, who was a deaf mute.

He was a smart lad, but was prone to violent outbursts, he had a hard childhood, anyway, after knowing him for about 5 years, his Father passed away, within 4 or 5 days he had lost all, and I do mean ALL, of his hair, head, face, chest, back, arms, legs, even pubes.

That was back in about 1980, to this day none of his hair has ever re-grown.

Michael is a good lad, an even better mate, I wish I could do more to help him.

Is she on the pill?

Nah shes not on the pill.Just stressed out. I think shes just really stressed out and that why hair is falling out. She told me its not a lot of hair, but shes just worried. Anyway thanks guys.

All I can say is prior to 1993/4 I had a full head of hair. Post 94 (and the worst period of my life) I was bald. :/

So in my case, I have no doubt at all stress probably (cause I reckon it would have gone anyways knowing my luck) brought on hair loss quicker at least than may have otherwise happened.

Zeke and mel you are both right.

Anaemia can cause hair loss.

Anaemia can be instigated by high oestrogen.

High oestrogen also tends to raise anxiety levels ie stress.

Ask you friend to get her oestrogen levels checked by the doc.

(Mightn't be the reason but definitely a possibility)

Some doctors think it could also have something to do with evolution. She should feel lucky she is evolving further away from the hairy back sheilas in Africa. :(

Similar thing happened to my uncle. Baldness is not common among my family on my mothers side, but he's almost completely bald, and has been since he was about 25. My grandfather had a motorbike, and had a nasty accident one day (he survived.) My uncle was the one who found him, and it must have been the fright of seeing his father lying there, but within a week, most of his hair fell out and never regrew.

Tony Jewell and Rodney Eade were both known to pull their hair out in frustration during their coaching careers.:p :p

HA HA I was thinking that, coaches suddenly go bald, or grey & age at a rapid rate. :D

Yes, stress can cause hair loss, but it's not uncommon to lose hair while in the shower. You're supposed to lose on average 50-100 hairs a day.
