I have long since admired the way this fella goes about it , however there's no denying that a bit of water has passed under the bridge since his celebrated debut yet I'm not certain much has changed with DP rate of improvement. In 2008 I reckon a few have passed him and am almost certain that TW prefers the likes of whako jacko for his size , pace and more penetraing kick.

The case for would argue that he hasn't been able to string more than 2-3 games together in the Ones and he maintains a respectable number of possies ea time he players ~17 ...some further gametime may fuel some improvement, perhaps.

Me thinks he will be our most attractive bargaining chip at the trade table...either a ruckman or R2 pick would prob get the job done

Good luck to the lad either way:thumbsu:

Don't think we will trade anyone tbh. Maybe offer Pettifer or JON but i think the staff are quite ok with the list atm but will be banking on heavy development this preseason from the likes of Polo, Hughes, Meyer, Tambling etc. to step up.

I think TW is using the threat of being traded the same way it was used with Schulz last year. Just firing a warning across the bow to let DP know he either puts his head down and works his arse off to get the most out of himself or he is gone. However, if we were to get a deal that netted us something we need i.e. the ruckman or extra draft picks then I wouldn't be surprised to see him traded.

i suspect this trade is more likely to happen than the Shculz one was last year ;)... but i agree the scenario is the same

Polo showed that he cared about playing footy in the VFL final against Frankston. Lots of desperation.

do you think so, for me it confirmed some dark thoughts I had on him and cogs, I expected a much more promiunced impact on the game for someone with designs on a senior berth

Watching the weekends games the importance of players who are older and strong of body even if they arent the most skilled shone through. They don't all need to be guns just good players who when giving there all are competitive. I think players like Polo will fill this role for us in future years.

I actually like the way he plays, he tackles hard can run all day and has a knack for finding space.

Other clubs may be interested in him but I don't think we could trade him for his value to us.

Terry is creating a culture of hark work off the track will mean you can play seniors. Polo is currently behind a few after 2008 but Terry has stated that he is quite happy with the list and just wants to keep developing these players. Same thing applies for Polo.

Although, if a trade popped up somewhere, we would consider it.

Polo should and will be gone................
he doesnt work hard enough and that is part of the reason others have gone past him.
he's had his chance, trade him.......

It would be good if they gave him more than 2 games in a row.Hows the kid gunna get some form if he's dropped every second week give the kid a few games in a row and watch him shine.

Does anyone actually know that Polo does not work hard enough on the track or are we just assuming this?
Not many around here get to training sessions so let's be careful we don't just throw this out there.
All I can comment on is what I have seen & that is that DP is a "typical, traditional footballer" (to use the cliche)
Goes hard at the footy, though not lightning quick is certainly not too slow, has an excellent ability to pick up the pill, take a tackle whilst keeping his arms clear (not unlike Coggs in his prime) and dish off a hand-ball to a team-mate whilst providing a shepherd at the same time. Fits into a mid-field rotation no problems.

If there is something behind the scenes putting him out of favour then let's make sure we have done everything we can to resolve the issue before just casting him off.

I have little doubt Polo will attract interest at the trade table from a few clubs but IMO it would need to be an excellent offer.

Polo and Jacko have had the toughest run to get a game at the club. Both have plenty of talent, but usually have been the first one to make way when a player is coming back from injury etc. Jacko has been at the club for an extra year I think, so he has played a few more games than Polo and is a year ahead in his development so he would get picked before Polo. We should be using jacko as our main tagger and Polo as the tagger to rotate with jacko. Both are important parts of our future 22 imo. Terry would be mad not to keep him on the list.

Agree with both these posts. I like Polo but if we get a good offer he's not untouchable. I really want Tom Swift if he proves to have recovered from his injuries. I don't think he will be there at our second pick though, so I'd like to see us try to get an earlier 2nd round pick. Freo is looking for young players with experience so Polo plus pick 42 or Polo plus Cass or JON might winkle their pick 21, where Swift is a better chance to still be available, although I feel West Coast might get him with either 18 or 20. Still, worth a shot, and regardless we'll have another pick in the top 25.
