Mathew Wade is perhaps Tasmania's hottest upcoming cricket prospect. The tallented Keeper and Australian Junior rep made his debute this year in the one day format for Tassie but his future could lie elsewhere.

With Tasmania boasting a number of options behind the stumps including another youngster in Tim Paine the competition for a place could force Wade to look elsewhere.

Victorian Cricket recently made a statement that "if we were interested in Mathew Wade we would make our approaches through the propper channels." These coments have led some to believe that Victoria and South Australia could both be interested in the young Wade.

If Tasmania is to retain both Wade and Paine they'll face a difficult choice. Who's going to take the gloves and when?

I'd personally like to see Wade take over as the full-time Pura Cup keeper while Paine would take the gloves in the Ford Ranger Cup. This seems like it would be the only option that would allow both players to show their wares with the gloves as they attempt to impress the selectors.

Can he bat?

There are a lot of pretty good keepers in the domestic system, how far he goes probably depends on how well he handles the willow.

He can replace Crossie in Vic side when he becomes national keeper ;).

Every indication leads me to say that he'll be able to handle the willo. How good he can be is upto him, but he is more highly rated than what Tim Paine was.

If Wade takes the gloves in 4-day cricket, it leaves Paine to open the batting, as is the current arrangement

We can hold the kid

We need to keep him. In alot of peoples opinion Wade has so much potential, the only question is how quickly can he step up to First Class level.

Given the rise of Paine, next season Wade will catch alot of peoples eye.

Clingleffer's likely to keep the four day job, and Paine the limited overs, so Wade could get squeezed out. That is unless Paine was to play purely as a batsman in both forms of the game, or Wade takes over before he's really ready from Clingeleffer (who would almost certainly get a gig in some other states - as a pure gloveman he's the best I've seen Tassie produce; decent bat as well in the FC game, but too slow for limited overs cricket).

That you Scott?

Come to SA Matt.

All expectations will be placed upon you to carry our pathetic side.

Tim Coyle (Tassie coach) was on the news last night saying Matthew Wade will definately remain in Tasmania, as they are keen to retain Tasmanian-born players within our state system, and that Wade is a required player.

I'd suggest he could get a game for Tassie purely as a batsman within the next couple of years when Diva and Dan Marsh move on.
