If there is anyone else that you think should be considered let me know and i'll add them to the list.

Re: Round 7 Captains

Thanks Jolldo

Seriously considering a slice of Pavlova for captain this weekend. Weather permitting he should rack them up.

Doubts over Cox fitness axe him. Bartell, KCornes both excellent choices.

Definitely not Cross and no Chad leaves me thin on choices.

Not as captain but looking at those numbers I'd love to see King Tezza give Joel a gig.

Re: Round 7 Captains

Agreed Dogs, with Cornes and Cross out of contention it means many coaches will have to alter their regular captain option and look elsewhere.

I'm looking at Riewoldt, Pav and Kornes.
I'll be bringing in Kornes this week for Dyson, so I might make take a leaf out of Carlton's book and give him the captaincy gig straight away. Especially since the Dons have been conceding big numbers this season with their free-flowing gamestyle.

I was wondering if there was any statistical difference between Kane's scores without his brother playing compared to his usual average.
Chad doesn't miss games often, in fact he didn't miss a game last season, while missing 3 games in 2006 and 5 games in 2005.

Here are Kane's numbers from those games:

2006:
Rd 15 - Geelong - 131
Rd 14 - Richmond - 113
Rd 9 - Essendon - 127

2005:
Rd 20 - Adelaide - 109
Rd 7 - North Melb - 57
Rd 6 - Richmond - 72
Rd 5 - Geelong - 68
Rd 4 - Carlton - 88

2005 was the first year that Kane established himself as a premium DTer, with an average of 93.3. You could argue that the 2005 stats are outdated because Kane is much better now than he was then. But I thought it may be beneficial to see two sides of the coin. In general, his performances were below average.

In 2006, the data, while admittedly limited, shows that Kane performs above average when Chad is not playing.

Re: Round 7 Captains

Scott Thompson has 3 x 100+ (and 2 x in the 70's) out of his last 5 games against the Roos. In a week with limited choice you could do worse.

Re: Round 7 Captains

The popular options that people will be considering this week are;

Kornes - Last 3 scores against Essendon have been in excess of 100 points. This year, Essendon are leaking points at a remarkable rate, the second most in the competition (behind Melbourne). Wouldn't be surprised to see him score a very very big score (130+). Midfielders against Essendon so far this year have scored very well. Playing at TD, so wont be affected by the weather.

Pavlich - Playing Melbourne. Enough said. Leaking the most points in the comp at the moment. Note that Brad Johnson (albeit injured) was blanketed by Cam Bruce. The same may happen to Pav. Historically Pav scores extremely well against Melbourne, with 134 and 127 against them last year. Playing at the MCG, weather could be an issue.

Cox - No offence to Carlton supporters, but your rucks suck. Jonathan Griffin (av 54) scored 82 points against them, including 35 hitouts. On one foot, Cox will still easily crack the ton. Whether or not he gets rested on the pine a bit because of this injury is the main problem. Risky choice, but likely to score huge. Historically, in the last 2 years he has had big scores against the Blues, but Carlton are a different unit this year.

Re: Round 7 Captains

Looks to be a tough choice this week. Salopek is my roughie against the Bombers at the Dome. Is in great form and it should be a high scoring match. Hayes against the Tigers should rack them up.

Re: Round 7 Captains

pavlich seems to love playing at the g, kicks a lot of goals, takes a lot of marks and gets a few touches as well..
add that to the fact he is playing melbourne who leak the most points and turn the ball over a lot coming out of defence which could mean pavlich could be in for a lot of easy marks inside 50 on the turnover, and he seems a great choice..

only possible things to reduce his score would be weather, and jarad rivers playing on him/floating across on him all the time. although brown is terribly out of sorts, rivers kept him to 59 last week after 31 in the first qtr. hopefully pav will be able to get marks up on the wing which rivers will let him have

i could be wrong but i dont think brown is quite as good a mover as pavlich which will help him get away from a slower rivers. if freo play with the same intensity as they did last week, pav will tear melbourne a new one. hopefully that game against geelong last week kicks freo into gear as they have been beyond shocking most other games

yeah thats what i am hoping for by saying he could get kicks up on the wing...looks set to be my captain this week

Re: Round 7 Captains

Looks like Pav for me as well. If i had KCornes i would make him captain. I could get Kornes in but that's a story for another thread.

As a rule I don't make backs or fwds captains with the only exception CCornes. There is such a vast difference between their best and worst.

But with CC out and Cross playing Sydney it looks like Pavlich it will be.
