Captain Conversations with Golumless

I sit here this morning having now interviewed five of our ‘illustrious’ (generous) SFA captains, nursing writer’s cramp; jet lag; and a bit of a hangover as a result of a loss to my next subject’s mob. Whilst I was in no mood to hang around any longer at the House of Gumby, it made sense to work in my next Captain’s chat while I was here – with none other than Golumless

M411: G’day mate, how’re you feeling after the win on the weekend? Have the parties stopped yet since you beat the reigning premiers?

GL: I dunno, but beating the reigning premiers during the minor round isn't that exciting. I'm more excited we've gone 4 weeks undefeated.

M411: This is true – the only wins that truly count are in finals. Now, the Gumbies were established way back in S04. How long have you been on board and held the top mantle for?

GL: I came over with Noobz0r at the start of S24, and we both took over the captaincy on coming to the Gumbies.

M411: S16 holds a special place in Gumbies history. Do you ever think the club will scale those heights again?

GL: Absolutely, eventually a 50/50 sim will reward us with a premiership.

M411: As the man leading your side, how would you say you’ve helped foster the culture at the Gumbies and how would you best describe that culture?

GL: I like it, it has a pretty old school vibe to it currently with 10-12 posters (which I believe is the ideal number of posters, seeing any more is just overkill) that primarily just are there to banter with others. I don't think I can say if I have helped foster that, and it's not really something I'm focused on.

M411: What’s the best day you’ve had on the Qooty field?

GL: Winning and kicking 5 goals in the S21 grand final.

M411: What's the difference between Golumless the poster and Golumless the Qooty player?

GL: Golumless the Qooty player can be a spud, Golumless the poster is never a spud.

M411: It seems you’ve really recruited well this year, with both hotkorma and Jade showing their wares on and off the field. Is this the start of a mini-rebuild or change of guard?

GL: Definitely the start of a change of guards. I'm realistic enough to say I'm coming to the end of myself being a very active poster in this league. Players like Jade, hotkorma etc are pretty much the future of this club.

M411: Looking at the big picture of the SFA, in your opinion what is the most defining event in the history of the SFA?

GL: That's a tough one, but would have to go the rejection of A.N.I.M.A.L.S side. That saved the league, it did.

M411: So what is your personal SFA Career Highlight?

GL: Definitely captaining the winning grand final side in S21.

M411: Wrapping up, do you have any words of wisdom for the S25 rookie class?

GL: This is going to sound weird, but for the most part, ignore your teammates posts. Your role as a poster is to banter with the opposition which means 90%+ of your posts should either be quoting an opposition or tagging an opposition player. The moment you start primarily talking to your teammates it makes threads impossible to get into as an opposition player, as it descends quickly into really cliquey posting, or is just incredibly boring to read.

Thanks for the chat and all the best to the Gumbies in S25.

Well.

Doing a great job. It’s a very rare thing In this place to stick it out, and the thread is really well done.
Appreciate it mate. Genuinely - cheers.
Matty411 in time you will learn to make a new thread for each interview, maximising your likes per interview while simultaneously flooding the board.
Haha that’s not my prerogative here mate but I’m sure I have lots to learn.

Captain Conversations with Wooshette

Last week, I allowed myself the luxury of having some time back home at Abdu Prison, which is always nice. But with approval for some extra travel expenses this week, I took the long trip to Van Cortlandt Park in Coney Island, NY to meet up with a woman who usually asks the questions: Captain of the Coney Island Warriors - Wooshette

giphy.gif

M411: Hi Woosh, thanks for the invite – nice place you’ve got here. Do you mind if I call you ‘Woosh’ for short?

Woosh: Not at all, I've been called a lot worse. Firstly sorry for taking so long to do this for you, I've had my hands full with Itsmyshow 's 300th game and Dips 150th. And the Warriors have been sitting in ice water for 3 days reflecting on our season and what we can go to start winning again. Yes, there has been shrinkage.

M411: Let’s start off by looking at the Warriors – you’re around the mark for finals at this stage and have a healthy %. Are you guys confident of being there at the end in S25?

Woosh: Yes we are, there's a long way to go and we rarely miss out on finals, only twice if I remember correctly. We are a team that fights till the end, and then gets drunk and naked either way. So really we never lose.

M411: I had a quick read of the Warriors history, seeing that you took over the reins of the Warriors in S21 and was the first female to hold captaincy outright in the history of the SFA. Congratulations! How do these accomplishments sit with you?

Woosh: I am pretty proud to be a captain and I think I'm a good one, I'm certainly committed and always put the club before my own self interests. To be honest I don't think of myself as the first female captain too much, I think in this day and age no one cares if you are male or female anymore, and most people don't even know what sex they are now, so it's not really an issue in my mind.

M411: Classy answer. Captaincy aside, how long have you been playing SFA and what keeps you coming back?

Woosh: This is my 5th season with the Warriors and I missed them. I love community and I love the game, I guess I'm what some people would term as 'serious' I enjoy treating it like a real sport with real teams, real rules, real players and real awards etc..stepping into that place here. Otherwise it's just a lot of people talking shit really. I missed that when I left for a season, I missed the roleplay and there are some great people here and much fun and discussion and melts to be had.

Overall I think everyone has their own reason for being here, I love being captain of a qooty team and all that goes with it. I dunno if I'll be here for 300 or 400 games but for now I'm addicted, yes.

M411: So culture is a buzz word around these traps. What would you say defines the culture of the Warriors and how have you helped foster that as captain over the past four seasons?

Woosh: I think we're a club that don't want to be popular or too friendly, teams either enjoy playing us or they don't. We have a wide range of posters and we encourage all of them to post in their own style, though we most value humour and campaignerishness in a Warrior.

Our internal culture is excellent, we don't have big complex leadership groups, we keep it simple and genuinely get along with no ego clashes. The fact that in 7 seasons we've only had 3 people move to other clubs, and 2 have come back, speaks volumes about our culture. Sometimes recruits and rookies work out and sometimes they don't, same as every other team.

Of course we have had retirements like every other club, sometimes people have other things to do in life or they just get sick of the place, but overall our retention numbers are fantastic. I know I'll never play for another club, why would I?

M411: You wear the #8 Guernsey for the Orange, Black and White – was this random or is there a story behind that decision?

Woosh: It's a number I like and I jumped on it, no deep reason behind it really.

M411: You seem to be well-liked and respected by all. What are the three most important things to you as an SFA poster and Qooty player?

Woosh: Not sure about well liked, but most people here I think get that I love the game and play the way I want to play it, and I do very much respect the game, the rules, and the culture here built up over many years, the longer you are here the more you grow into that. Maybe some respect me because I don't follow other peoples paths or align myself to any group and speak my own mind my own way. I dunno, I don't like being not liked but in a real sport you have to have rivalries and enemies or it's no much fun. Sometimes the dislike people have for you and visa versa spills onto other parts of Bigfooty, this place certainly brings out the best and worst of people!

M411: It seems we have similar styles and interests in unpacking the SFA and chatting to fellow posters. Tell me about the Woosh Magazine. How long has you been running it?

Woosh: I started it my first season I think, maybe second, to make some threads about new players and some players we pinched from other clubs. I love doing interviews and always encourage people to add humour, angst or whatever they want to it. I enjoy doing the mock up covers, photos etc, all that. I would like to do more and probably will in the future… last season would have been a doozy for interviews but I wasn't here.

M411: Looking at the big picture of the SFA, in your opinion what is the most defining event in the history of the SFA?

Woosh: I haven't been here long enough to be an expert on the, history but in my time maybe the recruiting tours, 40+ recruits coming in a season has changed the face of the SFA imo. I prefer to go out looking myself and doing a bit of homework, but I will say every club is healthy now with so many new people coming in so that has to be a good thing. But I would probably do the recruiting tours only every few seasons, captains and their LG should be out looking and trying to bring people in, that's part of the responsibility you take on to keep your club afloat.

M411: So what is your personal SFA Career Highlight?

Woosh: Probably the EKA, we were a small group of rookies back then with Cloud_ Van_Dyke Helen Wheels and a few more and they are all still here, one now the admin. Also making Broken 's team of the Year the first time was awesome, he used to do it so well.

M411: If you could poach any poster to join our ranks for S26, who would it be and why?

Woosh: I'm not saying because we'll be going after a few at seasons end. But I will say I don't look at posting numbers, I look at people who will fit in with the Warriors and feel happy and want to give their best to the club and league. Itsmyshow is a perfect example, I'm very happy FR got him over, I'd have 10 more like him any day. People passionate about the league or passionate about enjoying the league, or just plain funny or have a touch of campaigner about them are generally Warriors targets.

M411: Who's your favourite non-Warriors poster?

Woosh: I don't think I have one; I like most people here and try to enjoy everyone for what they are for the most part. Some are great for banter, some are great for taking the piss out of, some are just good to hate. Everyone has their own qualities they bring to the league.

If I had to pick just one favourite player in the League it would be Frankston Rover. He's passionate about the league, passionate about his club, and he has the balls to speak his mind and he's been here a long time and still posts likes it's his first season. When he goes hard at banter he takes no prisoners, when he's funny he's really funny, and when he melts he doesn't hold back. He's done everything in this league you can do from being an admin to starting up the Warriors franchise to simming games all on his own. He’s not a Hall Of Famer for nothing.

M411
: What’s the best day you’ve had on the Qooty field?

Woosh: Drawing in a Prelim and then getting smashed might sound like a weird highlight but it was super tense and fun at the time, we were so fired up and genuinely nervous haha. It was the f***** Dragons too, our bogey team so the rivalry was intense. But that's another story.

M411: Wrapping up, do you have any words of wisdom for a rookie starting out?

Woosh: Chill out, do some good media if you have the confidence and don't think you have to keep up with anything or anyone, you might do yourself more harm than good. And maybe respect people that have been here a very long time, no different to legends in your footy club. Enjoy yourself to the fullest, but try to get what this place is about too.

M411: Thanks for the chat – been a pleasure visiting Van Cortlandt Park and New York. All the best to the Warriors in S25.

Woosh: Thanks for the interview, you're doing a great job here and it's always a pleasure to see a rookie giving some good media a crack. Good Luck with your SFA career, I hope you stick around for the long haul :)

M411: It must be discussed. Where do you sit on the Harolad situation? Are you happy, sad or nonchalant?

Koh: Definitely sad. Haro was/is a gun poster and I hope he finds his way back into the SFA, not as an alias, as that would diminish his legacy, but as Haro.
Behind the scenes, he was supportive and he genuinely loved his time in the SFA. If he does return, I'm hoping the break gives him a different perspective on the place and he sees the SFA for what it is, just one giant fantasy piss take.
**** off KohPhi

I think that's what got him in the end KohPhi. The lines between real and fantasy got blurred and he stepped over what was acceptable from a reallity perspective.

Yeah that's a fair call..
