I would think we either stick with Johnson or elevate Newman.

Leave Johnson. He can obviously rally the troops well. It doesn't have to be the best player that is captain. He has everyone's respect at the club and I believe he is doing fine. Having his best year with the tigers to date aswell.

Not a massive fan of K.Johnson but i think he should retain the job for at least one more season , Newman will be the next captain just a matter of when i think. Johnson probably deserves one more year anyway.

Not Newman... it really shits me why his name is continually attached to the captaincy position (said in Richie Benaud voice) . Seriously... he's not a captains arseh*le - intravert, good performer and reliable. Hardly "captaincy" material.

Although l dont find Johnson that great a leader, he maintains it until either one of Deledio or Axel demands it.

Unfortunately the time has passed Richo by. Bowden cant hold his position.

If you were going to strip Johnson of it, the only option is possibly Browny.

Make Lids captain, give it to him while he is still young and let him and the team grow together. He has all the skills, seems to have a level head and we dont want him to leave and go to Carlscum when his contract expires.

I think Foley has enough on his plate at the moment that leading the team could weigh him down way to much, Newman for mine has captain written all over him, is courages, skillful, can find the ball and is doing a great job since breaking his leg.

Newman for Captain, Foley and Deledio as Vice-Captains.

Please fellow Tiger supporters i know we are all happy at the moment with our last 2 wins but to keep Captain Hack as captain next year would be a joke. Give it to Richo for his last 2 years to cap off a sensational career then Lids should be primed to take over. Can anyone seriously tell me they have missed Captain Hack in the last 2 weeks. Chris Hyde has taken his spot lol

I'm really starting to warm to the idea of Deledio as our Captain.
He has really stepped it up this year and not just with his play.
Has matured into a pretty imposing physical specimen, strong, quick etc...
I've seen plenty of times where he has been directing traffic on the field, sprinted up to other players to give support & generally he looks like one of the on-field leaders.

Even on Saturday, Wallace & the other players were milling around the middle after the game, signing the footy's etc...
Lids clearly called Terry over amongst this and could be seen in quite a serious discussion, pointing around the field, making some point to Terry about what had just happened.
I thought this was very good. Enjoying the victory but already thinking about what could have been done differently/better.

He will go close to winning our B&F if his form continues and if we agree that Richo is better served as a sentimental heart of the club, then switching captains for next season strikes me as the right timing and Lids would be my choice.

Let's face it... all of us reckon we will almost certainly be pushing into the finals next year and having a young "gun" as leader would complete the changing of the guard.

Sentimentality doesn't come into the equation when it comes down to captain.

I recall Stuart Edwards being a crowd favourite but he wasn't close to an onfield leader, let alone an off field one

Richo won the best and fairest last year. The best we can dream of for him now is a finals place.

Moving forward, like some of us want to do, the captaincy issue is a one horse race but not until 2010. That captain is not Johnson or Newman or Foley (who needs less on his plate).

Brett Deledio will be our future captain providing we can keep him at the club. Trent Cotchin will be vice captain, providing we can keep him at the club.

We're still a young group, so the club is likely to retain Johno as Capt for '09.

The other option would be the Cho. My sentimental favorite.

When it changes over, it should be to one of the youngsters...Probably Foley or Lids, to really show the club is in the hands of that 'generation'. Which of them gets it will be an interesting call...I gather Foley works very hard off field, but Lids is that much more inspirational on it.

That said, I don't think it'll happen at the end of this year...Let these 2 settle into being top line players before giving them that as well.


Of course, the other option is Tambling...Yeah, he mightn't be staring on the ground (yet), but as a person/leader, I've heard a lot of very good things about him.

If it came down to the two, I really can't see them giving the captaincy to Foley over Deledio.
Axel is a great player and trainer but he doesn't seem to have the obvious leadership that Brett does or the on field presence.

In no way am I having a go at Foley either

I think after Johnson has had his time up with captaincy, should give it to lids i reckon being young he could really tackle it head on and inspire the young fellas.

id be happy with lids as captain, im suprized at the support for newman as captain. i like newman but he just doesnt look like a captain to me, lids is just exciting and great to watch
