It’s hard to tell but in my opinion Jones has been a good captain. He steadily improved his own game when the club was virtually falling apart around him. In plenty of awful losses, he never turns up his toes and still cracks in when the game is gone. It’s been simply awful following this club since the end of 06 and he would have felt that hurt as much as any of us. If better days come to pass, I will reflect on the dark times and how the tough nut wearing number 2 continued to put his body on the line. He has taken players such as Brayshaw under his wing and always sought to improve individual and team standards. He has been a source of inspiration for the likes of Brayshaw, Gawn and Hogan through his play and leadership. Time and time again he has been asked to improve his game or change his role because it’s what the team needed or because there was no one else who could do it, he has also had to deal with a pretty debilitating neck injury the past few years. He’s banged up now and pretty close to the end but I won’t forget what he has done for this club.

I never saw Robbie play, Neita and Stynes were warriors who played in up and down sides. Jones deserves the same respect as those three who fought tooth and nail for this club and deserved far more than they got with regard to team success. Time is running out but he deserves a flag as much as anyone on the list.
One of the better posts I've read on here for a while. Pretty pathetic how easily people have forgotten the 12-16 era.

Nathan Jones didn't give up for a single second in one of the worst eras of a pretty pathetic club of late.

I don't care how he finishes his career that man will always have my respect.

I agree, and I'll go a step further and say that he should never have had to cop the indignity of sharing the captaincy with Viney. He was doing a good job as captain. Announcing that he would have to share it was like a slap in the face, IMO. It weakened his standing, and no doubt his enthusiasm for the role. I think the responsibility of being captain sat well on him. I don't like the idea of co-captains anyway, but if you're going to do that, you have to appoint them at the same time if you don't want to upset the incumbent.

IMHO it detracts from the responsibility of the role. One can point to the other and say, "I thought you were handling that." You can also imagine conflicting instruction resulting in confusion: e.g Jones: "Clayton, see ball, get ball!" Viney: "Clayton, I just want you to block for me, okay? Ima gonna rip these guys arseholes out their ******* gobs. Yahhhhhh!!"

Do you think clubs who have a sole captain, the captain is the only player issuing instructions?

The role has greater importance on field without runners.

Exactly so regardless of having 1 or 5 captains, you will always have multiple leaders instructing other players with different messages
