In theme with the previosu "Profiles" thread thought I would start a related thread about what people do for work or if you are studying what areas would you like to work in.

Job: Software Engineer for last 3 years- specializing in C/C++, SQL-Server Databases, and Crystal Reports. Also currently studying for a further Degree at Uni part-time.

Employer: Work for a good employer in an exciting field, and our products are just starting to break into the huge USA market.

Cheers

Studying Engineering/Commerce at UWA.

I "want" to specialise in Aerospace Engineering, but then I would have to move interstate or overseas to study, and live overseas to work, but hey, I can live with that.

Any people in the industry on the boards?

Currently working in a factory called Tony & Penfields Wholesale Flowers which supply every type of flower and flowering equipment (like Pots, Wrapping, Bows, Oasis) to the majority of the Florists in Adelaide. We also make flower bouquets and flower pots for Woolworths in Adelaide and NT under the name 'Clover Hill'. The sister company in Melbourne is called Rowse Flowers and they do the same for Melbourne florists and sell bunches to Safeway i think. Tony & Penfields is the biggest warehouse of its sort in the southern hemisphere.
So whenever you go into Woolies or Safeway and see the flowers then thats what i do.

I have a Diploma of E-Business Support, have had work experience at three different places (Binary Logic, PC Potential and Telstra *shudder*) but still no job :(

Considering a move to Melbourne for a job.

I am a public servant. I work for the Victorian Government. I am an expert at jamming the photocopy machine, surfing the internet, writing junk emails, looking out the window, and most importantly, deciding where I'm going to go for lunch and afterwork drinks.

thankfully, I'm also studying part-time for an MBA at monash...3 units to go.....so hopefully things will look up soon :)

I work for MI5 as a secret agent/assassin infiltrating terrorist organisations and seducing attractive women.... guys come on this is the internet, you know the nutbags that peruse this site, stop handing out info for their stalking files.

Did that exact job for the Federal Government for 15 years.

Now work with autistic and disabled people providing leisure options such as taking people to sporting events and movies and such like. Has to be the best job in the world.

Journo
small country newspaper.
Degree in journalism, studying postgrad course in same.
Looking to write fictiion and non fiction books in the future.

Well, I'm still at school, obviously, but I would like to have a career in counselling or sport psychology, or physiotherapy, or forensic science - in that order. I would love to do Psych at either Swinburne or Melb Uni, and physio is at Melb Uni. Any tips anyone about unis and their courses on those subjects?

After 10 years as a Greenkeeper I now work for the Victorian Department of Human Services as a carer for the Intellectually Disabled. Am also a part time student, which stops me from going completely mad.

Hey Localyokel, you don't actually work for the "Leisure Options" company by any chance? I've had many dealings with them in sending our guys on holidays, outings etc.

Its amazing how many people have had this exact same job, although mine with the public service included a government car so i could go home in the middle of the day for a two hour sleep, when i got bored doing that i just got a second job ( serious ) to fill in time during my first one.

Baby that was years ago and ive left it all behind.

Self employed now.

I take so much comfort from the people I work with. Without exception they make no complaints about their lot in life and just get on with it. They are an inspiration and help me to put my own problems in perspective. That is what makes me feel good.

Umm a lowly Computer Op at err Telstra. Well not really but most of the work i do is on the telstra account so close enough..oh the shame

I'm at uni at the moment doing an arts course. I want to be a highschool literature/sose teacher eventually. I don't know if I'll ever get there though, I'm already 3 years out of school and still doing 1st year (admittedly with a break there somewhere.)

At the moment I'm a cleaner (thrilling job... really.)

Basically wanting to get into what you are doing, I am going to Uni next year to get a degree after getting 2 years RCC from my Advanced Diploma of IT. I hate C though, Java and OOVB are much easier and you don't have to pi ss about with pointers and allocating memory left right and centre.

How much experience did you have when you first started your job?
