Carey was 100% correct. Business as usual for Deano.:thumbsu:

ok... Do you agree that Dean shouldnt have single out the Youngsters?

To be honest, I'd back Dean to know whether Hamish and Spitz could benefit from a public flogging better than people who have never met them. It may well have been an emotional response from Dean and it may well have been the wrong thing to do. But it might just have been a considered response and it could be the making of them. We've molly-coddled Hamish all year, every time he has been beaten by the three or four best ruck divisions. Maybe it's time he had the heat turned on him to challenge him to be the best that he can be and not just a flat track bully. Likewise Spitz could well benefit from stepping out from that "kid with potential" safety net and become an elite on-baller. Sure they're young but they're also not children.

By the same token, Dean had a shocker too and he knows that. I just think the criticism by Carey in this instance is neither here nor there. It's a fair comment but at the same time, it may prove to be the wrong call. Carey made an observation. Fine. So long as he leaves it at that and doesn't bring it up again and again, I have no issue.

I am annoyed with the comments, not because they singled blokes out, but because they singled the wrong blokes out. Again. McDonald was laughable after the Geelong game, saying the senior blokes were not to blame. I was there, and they were rubbish.

I agree. Some players thrive on the challenge to prove others wrong. At St Kilda, Stan Alves used to bag Rob Harvey to make the other players realize that if he was bagging the best player in the team, then all of them had better take a good hard look at themselves. The only small thing wrong with this tactic was that St Kilda doesn't have the culture to tolerate criticism of its best player and Alves was duly sacked.

I know that NMFC is a much stronger club than St Kilda ever will be and that these players who have been singled out will work their guts out to prove Laidley wrong, and the other players will also regard themselves as on notice. It's no coincidence that McIntosh and Swallow are possibly the 2 most talented youngsters in the team. Laidley has thrown down the gauntlet, let's see how the players respond next year.

Singling out 2 kids as a reason for a drubbing is just not on.
It's a team game and ALL players and coaches need to share the responsibility of the loss equally ...Poor form from Dean ..but i'm sure he realises he made a mistake .

Its a factor, its not a reason. He didn't say if they had have played well we would have won.

Maybe I'm too kind to Dean.

I think he was talking in terms of those guys deserving praise for the contribution they've made this season, but wanting to point out to them that the club is relying on them to do better than during our finals campaign.

He was more trying to balance the praise with a wake-up call.

I think he's worked hard on his public speaking, but in the heat of a drubbing, watching Archer retire and possible contemplating his own future, he came across a bit too harsh.

If they are going to be top-line AFL footballers they should be able to take a bit of a public sting regardless.

I don't think Carey's reaction was out of line either. The whole thing was just part of the wash-up of a horrible, ugly day.

FFS he didn't single the two out. This was edited by the papers who whacked a senstionalist headline on it, as they do with anything footy related nowdays. He said they were the reason we got so far this year, but they weren't flash today. They've set a standard and they now know they have to lift the bar again. If you listen to the interview in its entirety it is basically praising the development of all of our young kids. I have to log off now because this tripe that people come up with believing what "journalists" write (edit creatively) and then add some extra negative spin is plain stupid.
