Carltank No Longer Permitted To Cheat Salary Cap

banned from the draft for four years would ruin the club on field for 15 years imo, all up its a 20 year punishment... that'd be a VERY hard pill to swallow.

I think they will lose their all their 1st and 2nd round draft picks for the next 2 years
A 1 year draft penalty is a 1 year penalty. A 4 year penalty is a 4 year penalty. Don't listen the Carlton excuses for their ineptitude. They still got plenty of number 1 picks.

If you don't get the draft picks your ladder position warrants this year you most likely don't improve and you get them next year so you are 1 year behind in a rebuild. If you go and get the likes of McKernan and then have to tank to get more early picks then you will look bad for longer but it is a function of management not draft penalities. If you get draft penalties while near the top of the ladder it will cause you even less longer term pain.

That said, I think your guess at penalties for Adelaide is about right.

I don't care, why did they allow it in the first place that's what gets me angry and isnt this his first deal with Carlton so technically the AFL cant change the contract they have already signed on and approved.
The reason that they allowed it in the first instance was that shrivelled toad who was president of that club at the time. The toad had already corrupted the market in the goods that his company produced, so it was no surprise that he brought his corrupting activities to AFL.

Personally, I think anyone involved with that club should undergo a police check and have to make signed statements that they will not bring the game into disrepute....an almost impossible task

well done, eddie. you've got the afl to clamp down on 3rd party agreements. i'm sure all the other presidents will be chuffed.... oh wait...

screwing it up for carlton is one thing, but it seems he's not going to stop before he wrecks the whole joint.

there will be consequences for all clubs... and they can all thank ed. :)

it's gonna be fun to watch.

Provided that all clubs have to work within the same rules it's all good. The fact that Carltank have got away with cheating for this long is a disgrace and every club will be more than happy if the rules are applied evenly. It is already fun watching! :D

Because they haven't had the guts to put their hand up does not mean they don't support what he's saying. Only scum supporters at this stage think that the rules should not be fairly and evenly applied.

or maybe because they believed the system was working the way it was (albeit imperfectly).

took some cap pressure off the clubs.
players were free to pursue the open market.
afl reduced the chances of a restraint of trade suit.

where's the downside?

or is the reality just that eddie wanted to get back at carlton and mick?

i'll let you figure that one out.

Visy represents the 'open market' now. I do seem to recall Pratt being entangled in collusion with the ACCC. Ah well, one goat right? The deal with Judd and Visy is also clearly the result of an exhaustive hunt for the best possible representative for recycling.

Who brings the zing to boring old recycling, yes, Mr Personality. The right contrast of cardboard bland and razzle-dazzle charisma. It's all very much above cardboard.

at carlton? yes. and they are our sponsors.

judd has always been environmentally conscious. he drives a hybrid car don't you know. :)

Because I'm sure the Carlton supporters of this board would have the same view if another club had a deal similar to Judd's.

Pathetic.

Be happy that you guys got away with legalised cheating for so long and move on.

The consequences were already there for all clubs; namely, that at all other clubs you couldn't be employed by board members of the club. Now Judd and the Oompa Loompa who inherited the price-fixing recycling business from her white collar criminal husband will have to join the party.

Eddie was onto this long before Mick (officially) went to Carlton.

It's been a tough day.

It makes it all worthwhile though when you come home & you smell that sweet scent of Carlscum being ridiculed.

These are my salad days.:p

lol... I just thought the bloke was given too easily a time by the footy media. Kids are getting kicked out of the game because they do something petty and here is a man who has made millions by deceit and the spinless footy scribes treat him and his wife like royalty. In fact, he and his company was found to have colluded with the only competition in the market, to fix the prices. And we see Juddy and other Carlton players crawling up his family driveway to have tea and bickies with him.....that is downright disgusting. To those that know nothing of this just google Pratt and Visy. He even had to give back his Order of Australia that his little mate John Howard gave to him..... but does Carlton care? Why would they. They had John Elliot as a President and he was well known by corporate regulators in the 1990s. Wasnt he in charge when Carlton overpaid their players and happened to win the premiership? I cant keep track of it all. Its ironic that Collingwood people are the ones that supposed to get in and out of jail all the time, but its the Carlton people who the real crooks in Melbourne.

Oh dear. I'm fairly confident that Mr Pratt would have used fairly similar words in his defence had he not died of shame. It's an attitude that pervades the thinking at Carlton but completely ignores the fact that the rules are were put in place for a reason. If there's a restraint of trade suit then bring it. It will properly test the rules and force better ones if they're overturned or found wanting. Better still, if the challenge fails it will be the last for a very long time.

These may be OA's salad days but watching Carlscum supporters squirm so much... These are the best days of my life... Oh yeah!

fair enough.

my view is why risk bringing the whole system down when things were going along ok. i mean, eddie is the only one squealing about this. ain't heard shit from any of the other clubs.

maybe there's something in that.

Now why would anyone expect anything else from Carlscum supporters. It's not going along very well when some clubs are struggling to get players re-signed while others have significant portions of their players' salaries falling outside the salary cap. There is no better illustration than your club's attempts to lure Cloke from Collingwood whilst expecting one of your players to be handed a major portion of his salary through poor value for money third party deals falling outside the cap. Squeal all you like, the reality is that even your coach did not like it despite his predictable change of heart.
