When you put our team down on paper it starts looking ok
I think we will need one more year and in 2008 we will be a good team again
The biggest problem is the ruck hoping we can pick up one in the PSD

GONE
Barnaby French (Retired)
Troy Longmuir
Ian Prendergast
Trent Sporn
Luke Livingston
Cory McGrath
Rookies Smith and Batson

MUST GO
Callum Chambers
Justin Davies

NEXT IN ORDER TO GO
Jordan Bannister
Chris Bryan (hope they keep him and he comes good)
Rookie Flint

Contracts will save them
Adrian Deluca
David Teague
Dylan McLaren
Jason Saddington

All will go next year and Kouta will retire

This will give us a very good list in 2008

Promote Jackson to senior list

Picks 1, 17, 19, 35, 51, 67, PSD 1

Pick 4 new Rookies (hoping we can get 2 onto the list in 2008)
A O’hAilpin international rookie (He has to start showing something this year)

2007 team
B Russell, S O’hAilpin, Thornton
HB Bower, Waite, Lappin
C Simpson, Stevens , Walker
HF Fisher, Kennedy ,
Draft Pick
F Whitnall, Fevola, Betts
R
??????/PSD, Bryce Gibbs, Murphy
Int, Blackwell, Bentick,
Kouta, Draft Pick

The backup
Scotland, Carrazzo, Hartlett, Houlihan, Wiggins, Bryan, Edwards, Jackson, Deluca and our other new draft picks
I think Waite will be a better player running off H/B and Whitnall going to the forward Line

THE FUTURE LOOKS GOOD Go Blues

I'll have Scotland in the team before Bentick

Waite will play down back this year as he doesn't kick enough goals to be a forward and Whitnall is to slow to play on the top forwards and he is a better player up forward
Gibbs will play from the first game and be a top class player I have seen him play 3 games and he is ready to step straight in

Look we are 16th and have to make changes and I hoping Bentick improves next year to be a great tagger

Scotland, Carrazzo, Jackson, Wiggins and Houlihan will all be trying hard to get a game

I don't like Houlihan at all he is far to soft for me I think Jackson is a better long term choice

Yes I have seen Flint play and he would be unlucky to go but I think he might need more time than we have to give him and there are a lot of players in the draft this year that are as good as him

I would put Scotland ahead of Bentick, however I definately agree that Waite should be played CHB and free Whitnall to play a roaming forward role, especially as he gets older it will be easier for him up forward.

Waite in the backline seems logical to me, has a long reach, is a good mark and can re-bound out of defence. Definately worth a try.

Line up looks very good, no excuses next year.

With a side like that, I would assume that there are 15 clubs who would love to play the Blues twice in the season.
Still a few more years off, you poor old Blues fans

Bull crap! Like the tigers are any better. Let's see - your forward line is about as potent as a 90yo man with Richo as your main target, your backline relies on people like gaspar and your midfield has one star in Deledio.

You're just jealous of our soon-to-be powerhouse midfield:
Murphy, Gibbs, Walker as the stars - Blackwell, Scotland, Wiggins the workhorses and Kouta and Stevo the anchors.

Oh, let's not forget our forward line:
Fev - Coleman Medal winner in a team that finished last
Kennedy, Waite and Fisher - youngsters who will all step up
Betts, Simpson - crumbers who can definitely step up and snap goals

Let's not forget our two marauding Irishmen in the oH'ailpin brothers - backline stalwarts of the future.

CARN THE BLUES!

1)How can you say Flint is close to delisting? Have you seenn him play?...

Agree. Flint will be very good, and was one of the success stories of the year. Would have certainly been promoted if it wasn't for an unfortunate injury. :)

2)Waite should not be moved doen back. Swap him and Whitnall.

3)Why the hell is Scotland not in the team?

Exactly right J. Whilst I haven't seen Flint play, there has been talk on these boards that he might just be promoted to the senior list next year. No chance he'll be delisted this year at least.

Not sure why you think flint was a success story? He played a single game.....and that was carltons worst for the season -swanies at the SCG. Setanta was a success story, Simpson was a success story so was Walker. Flint's just another hard worker that got a shot at the end.

Flint hasn't played a game yet. Jackson and smith are the rookies who played this year

Flint broke his ankle playing for the Bullants in the middle of the year and didn't return.

You are thinking of Jackson, made his debut vs the Swans in round 22.

Roger that. It was always between those two for the senior call up. But that makes my point even more valid. I have read many supporters pump players up when really they are still kids playing in the VFL. Hartlet is another. Be realistic.

Yes they are kids playing in the VFL but you have to start somewhere.

Flint was in contention to be promoted this year but as mentioned he broke his ankle. IMO that was the only thing that stopped him from playing his first senior game in the Navy Blue in 2006.

Hartlett is another one from what I have been told who, due to injury, was unlucky to also not pull on the Navy Blue.

I hope both of these kids stay injury free in 2007 so they can show us what they have got because from all reports they are quite impressive, just unlucky due to injuries.

Here is my attempt at a 2007 Navy Blue Team. Minus our draft picks (imagine adding three of the best available talents!)

B: Bower, Thornton, Russell
HB: Scotland, Whitnall, O'hAilpin
C: Murphy, Kouta, Simpson
HF: Fisher, Kennedy, Waite
F: Betts, Fevola, Blackwell
R: Bryan, Stevens, Walker
Int: Houlihan, Bentick, Deluca, Lappin

(Do you know how difficult that was! For once i'm actually struggling to chose btw good players, instead of finding it hard to find a good player, i'm struggling to include them all! THat's good signs ahead!).

As for our ruck problem, i think Bryan/Deluca could share the role. For example, Bryan rucking, but also playing down back, while Deluca rucking and doing some tall marking as a forward option as well. Otherwise, we have Whitnall down back who could ruck occasionally, and leave Bryan to ruck in the centre and up forward, when Waite is floating aroung on the wing.

I'm on the Gibbs bandwagon!

I expect those in red to have a signifigant impact next year, the rest are either too inconsistant (through age or inexperience) or are just not mature enough as footballers to show hoe good they will be. Also some others are just very average footballers or you have them out of position (for example Scotland and Walker swapping gives the club more). Those in green are going to have little or no impact as they are not good enough or are too old. Those in purple are just as unproven as those we draft this year. O'hAilpin looks likely, but is still no certainty to be a 100 game player for this football club

Beg to differ Westbrom. Kouta to have no/little impact??? despite his age, kouta is one of our most consistent players. You dont need to get 30+ possessions to have an impact, it's what you do with the kicks and handballs you do get that has an impact.

Kouta, even Bentick, just becuase they won't have big games, they will be effective and will have impact, because what they do, they do reasonably well. More than anything, Kouta has the passion and desire to be playing for the blues, it's his last year, he'll be fantastic and will go out proud.

As for Stevens having a big impact, can i ask why you think that? He'll have Murphy, Walker, Simpson, possibly no.1 draft pick all running around out there with him. I think he is slack, and will hide behind those guys. So many times this year, i saw him not chase his man down. I could be wrong, and he may well lift next year, however i highly doubt it.

I know there are threads on this already, but just wondering if anyone can tell me when we find out who the new captain will be? is it normally at the start of the season?

That is okay forums are about differences of opinion AWG, but Kouta has never been a Williams or a Ratten in his usage of the ball, Kouta this year was far from consistant as well. In fact I reckon at about round 8 95% of CFC supporters wanted him to retire mid-season. I doubt Kouta will be a player this year, he will never wear a tag and he will be very unlikely to get 1 let alone 2 BOG's for the 22 rounds... I have been a big Kouta fan but I am also realistic. I think it is highly unlikely he spends much time on the park to be honest

Bentick is an average footballer, the jury is still very much out on whether or not he will make it. Another who never gets a heap of the ball, so should use it exquisitely when he does get it. Instead is another who does little, in a half-decent midfield he will not get a game. His only chance at Carlton is if he plays the Steven Baker role

He is slack, but this is borne out in the fact he is asked to go down back and he plays in the middle where he wears the big tag each week. Before he came to Carlton he played in a midfield with class, he was 3rd(?) in the brownlow and was recognised as one of the elite midfielders of the competition. Three years later he is soft... I think he is one of the players that could have an absolute blinder as our mid-field grows in class. It would not at all surprise me to see him finish top3 in our B&F

Given the wide ambit of this thread topic - I thought I'd ask my question here, rather than post a new thread.

When will the 2007 captaincy be announced? and do people still think that Big Red is the favourite? I was thinking about this today when reading Fevola on having Braddles and Rats back and also his opinion on the draft. Not that this means anything in and of itself, but I started thinking how much of a mouthpiece he is for our club - and he seems to enjoy it. I wonder if he is a chance to captain? Does anyone have any inside knowledge on this?

I don't think Fev is captain material yet. Whilst he has taken a step forward, I tend to think that the captaincy could perhaps be a burden more than anything. A few more years maybe...?

Our problem is we don't have a real leader... Whitnall is probably the only one that I would consider but in saying that, I am not sure if Lance is captain material either....

I think Whitnall is the best prospect...they only thing I worry about is that he slows down to the extent his footy smarts don't save him. If he gets even fitter of the preseason though and remains injury free, I don't think Fev would come close. I like the idea of a power forward like Fev leading through example and excitement but in other respects I think Whitnall is the way to go.

GONE
Barnaby French (retired)
Ian Prendergast
Troy Longmuir
Trent Sporn
Luke Livingston
Cory McGrath
Callum Chambers
Smith and Batson (rookies)

MUST GO
Justin Davies

NEXT IN ORDER TO GO
Jordan Bannister
Jason Saddington
Anthony Koutoufides (to retire at the end of 2007)

CONTRACTS WILL SAVE THEM
David Teague
Jason Saddington
Adrian Deluca

This will give us a fairly decent playing list come 2008

Promote Jackson to the senior list
Picks 1, 17, 19, 35, 51, 67, PSD 1

Pick 4 new Rookies (hoping we can get 2 onto the list in 2007 and 2 in 2008)
Promote Aisake O’hAilpin to the senior list as a international rookie (should be a good player for us)

2007 Team

B: Carrazzo, Bower, Hartlett
HB: Russell, Thornton, S.O’hAilpin
C: Simpson, Koutoufides, Walker
HF: Fisher, Kennedy, Whitnall
F: Betts, Fevola, Waite
Foll: McLaren, Bentick, Stevens
I/C: Bryan, Murphy, Scotland, Lappin

Please Note: The above team for 2007 was done according to our current list. Also with Kouta and Lappa looking likely to retire at the end of 2007, this will allow two spots into the side.

The backup
Houlihan, Blackwell, Saddington, Teague, Wiggins, Edwards, Raso, Aisake O’hAilpin and Flint. The last 4 are still developing, learning the game (Edwards, Raso, O’hAilpin, Flint) and are all yet to make their AFL debuts.

The future of the Carlton Footy Club isn’t as bleak as it seems. Like many Carlton fans, I am really looking forward to what the future holds for this great club. GO BLUES!!
