Swans will get vanilla Johnson
WHAT IS HAPPENING TO JOHNSON? This is Dev Robertson all over
Yeap, have him top 5
Recruiters ended up right about Dev
Doesn't look like a midfielder for the next level, so you're getting a rebounding third tall, a medium defender that will rely on their attack up the field, or a very weak 3rd forward.

Well if Johnsons doing a Dev, Brisbane probably won't let him slide past them
Given that they have a system that suits Birchall, I think this is a good call. Hawks might be interested too.

Actually agree with this. He won't get the time he needs at the AFL level. Game is just too fast for his type.

Nice list.

Six picks before our pick.
I'm thinking that Johnson, Draper, Goater and Sonsie will be gone by our pick
My wishlist then is:
  1. Motlop - we need a small crafty forward
  2. Bazzo - why not build up our spine this year, rather than wait for one more year?
  3. And then follow your list in order of remaining players - I'm fine with that

Howes still available.

Yey slow down. You know no matter who is there we will still select MacDonald right? It’s the Carlton way. I wish we would select the best player available rather than who we just want. As things change on draft night where people slide.

How do you know he won't be best available at our selection?

I dont but I do know our draft focus should change now since Jones left. We need Key position players. Not a skinny mid. If there is a good enough KPP then we need to select him. So if we ear marked MacDonald and someone else that suits our needs is there then we need to make a change.

No Judson Clark?

Here's a little phantom made under the mistaken assumption that no trades will be made before our pick. Just bear in mind that I am almost certainly wrong.

21- Fremantle: Johnson
22- North Melbourne: Goater
23- Hawthorn: Sonsie
24- Geelong: Howes
25- Geelong: MacDonald
26- Hawthorn: Butler
27- Carlton: Taylor? Motlop? Draper? Knevitt? Bazzo? Trade?

Happy to take a KPD if that happens to be the best kid still on the board, but not just because they're "good enough". Shouldn't be chasing one just because of the Jones thing, would be a knee jerk reaction and nothing more.

Drafting a KPD won't help replace Jones in 2022, it'll just mean we have another 18yo project who would struggle against a third tall forward, let alone a genuine KPF.

SSP is the avenue to add a mature tall. And then next year we can look to trade a better one in if it's still necessary.

OK, let me get this straight.

You suggest the club must select the best available player, yet then go on to say we must select a key position player to replace Jones.

Which one is it?

Jones retiring is a blow, but no 18 year old kid we take tomorrow night is going to be able to step up and fill the void straight away. How many 18 year old key position players hold down a key defensive role in their first season?

The recruiters and list managers have been watching these kids for years. It would be complete madness to throw their work out the window weeks out from the draft.

We almost certainly will not pick a KPP tomorrow. We've pretty much said what we're looking for and I expect the club to stick to that plan.

If we're not confident we can fill the Jones void from within in 2022, look to the SSP for a mature option. And then look to attack the draft next year which at this early stage looks to be a far better draft for talls with quite a number already projected to feature heavily.

If this was to eventuate, I would be taking Knevitt. Think he'll go before our pick though.
