49 - SYDNEY - CLINT BENJAMIN
Claremont, 27 July 1988, 189.2cm, 80.5kg

Talented West Australian certainly has his admirers, but also finding where he sits in the overall draft pool is difficult. He has been floated as a possible second round selection, although he is more likely to be 40 onwards. Sydney, West Coast and Adelaide are all believed to have shown interest, with his pace providing a massive 'up-side' for clubs. The Swans (No.49) could just clip the Eagles' (No.50) wings for his services.

Highlights/achievements: Super quick defender/wingman from Broome in far North WA. WA U18 representative this year and AIS/AFL Academy graduate. Ran a 2.95sec for 20m at the NAB AFL Draft Camp. A combined total of 24.74sec for the repeat sprint test saw Benjamin ranked in the top three per cent of players undertaking the test in Canberra.

51. Clint Benjamin

Looks like we're intent on the taller athletic backmen/wingmen types. A few interesting selections to say the least, but from what i've read about them it seems like they're a good bunch of kids with poential. I've got faith in the recruiting staff so we'll analyse again in a couple of years.

62 - MELBOURNE - JOE ANDERSON
Darwin, 24 December 1988, 187.6cm, 81kg

Anderson will come right into Melbourne's thinking with its final selection, after the youngster from Darwin added further ticks against his name with some fine displays at the recent Draft Camp. Anderson has attracted interest in the latter part of the draft, with Port Adelaide another interested party. The Demons rate both Northern Territorian youngsters highly - Djerrkura and Anderson - and it would not surprise if the red and blue added a further indigenous flavour to its playing list.

Highlights/achievements: Hard running and tough defender who won Darwin best and fairest award at senior level this year. Impressive captain for NT at U18 level with his attack on ball and one on one defence. A 2.98sec 20m sprint time at the NAB AFL Draft Camp, coupled with a 14.4 beep test show a great speed/endurance combination. A ranking in the top five per cent of the repeat sprint test further highlights his speed endurance capabilities

Got Joe Anderson. I think he's a good young player but I'm a bit dissapointed that all our picks are similar types. All are tall and fast with suspect disposal. I was hoping for a true inside mid who's a real footballwer somewhere in the draft. Why can't the recruiting staff see how much we need this sort of player. It was a big mistake to pass on Hislop to take Grigg.
