Yeah it might be naive but I am left with the impression that he was good at getting admin sorted and reconnecting the club with fans and therefore good for what we needed, but not going to get us that extra step forward off field with finance, sponsorship and members.
...

Not that I know anything, or I'm even hinting at anything, but that sounds alarmingly like the same thought processes that got rid of Ratten and brought in Malthouse. It unsettles me a bit.

A few years ago we had Judd, Carazzo and Curnow and robinson and Brock. And IIRC we were seen as a good centre clearance team. There was also Gibbs floating around, and , although he is not super tough, he is no small fry and not easily pushed off the ball.

Yes these blokes were 'big enough' to make Carlton middling competitive but not quite good enough to beat the better midfields in Hawthorn, Geelong, Saints, Norths and Sydney - lack of skills in Robinson/Ed/Bell/ ball butchers really and lack of pace with Carrazzo/McClean.

What a disrespectful, rude bastard.
No need for that in radio journalism

Please never associate the word journalism with an ex footballer. They are glorified shock jocks who survive on baiting. Dwayne Russell is a step below that, in both calling terms and his radio work, and therefore must have damming photos incriminating his bosses.

Dominator is not wrong about Crippa.
1984 Dominator nearly killed himself the way he tried to take too much on himself.
Not seen mid put himself through so much battering work like that. Crippa lot bigger but has too much load this year. If Kennedy gets fully fit , well maybe problem solved but would be nice to have a mature bodied top class mid to ease the work on Crippa in coming years. Mitch Wallis for a pick around 30 might have to be type of trade to look at if no better gettable mids show up.

It really annoyed me on last friday nights broadcast that AFL cash for comments man cameron ling, says cripps shouldn't get 3 votes because he played in a losing side, what a load of BS. He was easily BOG. I feel this is coming from the AFL INC point of view , Crippa has been the best player in the AFL this year, no doubt and to do what he has in a team that has won one game is amazing. But he wont win the brownlow and it will be a travesty. Then on the back page of the HUN we read how carlton are"flogging" patrick cripps. How about we just sit back and watch cripps do his stuff and give him the earn accolades when he does well. So sick of the media sticking it up carlton. A pack of bullies going after an easy target. When your under the pump you fight back just like crippa does, all supporters and ex afl carlton players should have a good look at how crippa plays, he's not winging and complaining about how bad we are he's fighting for the team. We should all be doing this.

You wonder if he was saying the same thing about GAJ when he won the Brownlow up on the Gold Coast

Probably not, but in fairness, Ablett played in eight wins in 2013, and only received the 3 votes once when Gold Coast lost; polled 19 votes in wins, 9 in losses.

Fairly or not, the odds are greatly stacked against a bloke playing in such a noncompetitive team.

I listened to it too and agree 100% with you Lawrence.
I cannot stand interviewers who talk over the person they are interviewing.
Russell is a clown but that should not exempt him from repercussions.
I'd say that MLG would have taken it on board and placed it in his memory bank.
I know who I am backing.

Dom what a player he was. I would have thought the reason for him nearly killing himself was the post match activities rather than playing footy. Post game rehab has improved so much and players are way more professional.

I like the idea of Wallis and even more so if we get him as RFA.

Nah, it was the way he attacked the packs in that year. Think he had to have reconstructed back as a result. He was captain, we had quite a few injuries and he tried to lift the team to past heights on his own. Might have been not long after this he got addicted to something like morphine from taking too much medication to deal with pain. Amazed he ever reached his best again. He body was done by about 29 though.

Way different era now though. Club would not play him if there was the slightest of issues especially with the way we are going presently.

Back in those days the only unwritten medical rule was if you were concussed then you miss a week and that's after generally playing out the game. Post match involved getting on the piss and blowing out the pipes which cant/didnt help recovery.

Back in that era don't forget there was no testing of players for recreational type things and stories were created for a variety of reasons.

Yeh - I get so angry with Dwayne.

He wouldn't bring Frank Costa or Colin Carter on and say ' well you've topped up your list with big name recruits in Dangerfield, Henderson and Ablett and are still dishing up insipid finals performances - when can Cat Supporters expect a flag ??"
