Caro - a horse posting a donkey parable, how bizarre.

Whateley - losing the donkey was inexcusable. There were other options - they could’ve upgraded to a horse instead of hiring the donkey, asked his neighbour Collin for advice...

Healy - clearly the father and son had no process absolute amateurs, what a shambles.

Just had an enjoyable lunch at Myrtleford. On the way back listening to abc grandstand.

This absolute flog rings from W A. Premise of his statement was that due to dysfunction and lack of recent success Carlton should be forced to merge with North Melbourne to stop the drain on poorer interstate clubs.

Jake Niall etc pretty much played a straight bat and told him how big a club carlton actually is and how unlikely his scenario was. They did rehash the buy north Melbourne on the stock exchange from the '80's .

Should be some sort of IQ test that you have to pass to get on these shows. This flog would obviously have failed said test.

Unfortunately they actually seem to use the reverse test - completely unreasonable callers are very welcome. It gets people listening and discussing the program because it creates objectionable and even ridiculous content. A large proportion of the media take a similar approach sadly

Was really impressed by Diesel. I think the appointment makes sense. He has a level of respect inside and outside the club that can't be questioned, doesn't suffer fools yet is very connected with the playing group/football dept. His emphasis on standards was interesting. Proof will be on execution but his want and desire is coming from a good place

Worsfold...
“I really just hope, not only in terms of their selection process for the new coach, but their roadmap for the next five or six years needs to be really clear,”

What does this mean? A 5 year plan? We have been there and done that.

Or is he simply saying that no matter what, don't sack anybody for the next 5-6 years?

It just seems like a such a throwaway line to say from the outside.

I can get on board with saying, this is the way we are going to play, this is the way we will select our sides, there will be standards, we will develop players and assistant coaches (as well as further the senior coach's networks i.e other sports and innovation), we must go to the draft X amount of times and trade under XYZ circumstances. That's all internal though. It won't be clear from the outside.

If there ever was a perfect moment for the AFL to fight racism in our game, it is now their time to jump on Eddie and employ him to speak out with regards to racism in football at all levels and how it affects people.

But the AFL being the AFL are all about showcasing and very little substance.

Instead, he is heading off to the NTFL, probably to give back to the grass roots and because he still wants to play.

You'd like to think be could do both in this digital age.

I thought we already tried to do that with the 66 game rebuild thing.

I thought they made it clear the first 66 games would be about drafting and developing youth, with the first year being about the talls then finishing off with mids - the idea being talls take longer than mids, so they should each start to peak at roughly the same time. After that 3 years/66 games we'd look to target high profile free agents to top us off and prime our push up the ladder.

Obviously it didn't go exactly to plan as ideally as we'd have liked, but laying out a 5 year plan doesn't really help all that much.

Nothing but a soundbite from Worsfold.

basically saying we need a roadmap so we collectively know where we are going...all united and on board. along the way we may decide the sack someone but as long as we are heading in the direction we want to go then should be all good. The direction is key and really it can only be upwards on the ladder as a blunt measure but there must be kpi's in all areas to track our progress frequently enough to make sure we do not get too far off track like we did a little with DT and our defensive issues. Was mentioned a board member became aware of this back last preseason but it should have been addressed then.

I remember when port made some really tough decisions a couple of years ago and publicly outlined every step of what they would do to achieve success. They’ve taken that course and almost nailed it. Went to the draft heavily and got rid of players that they thought weren’t adding enough value on field. I believe we need to address what it looks like for us going forward. It’s all well and good to say we expect finals but what is actually going into it to make it happen.

Isnt that league played over the summer months?

Just checked, season starts in October, I’m sure he will do some form of work in AFL circles next years, good luck to him.

I heard that flogger too - went off my head and screamed at the radio: Why don't you merge you're bloody club you Pr**k!

And he didn't try to disguise the fact he hated us that's for sure.

Means what Teague said at end of his presser side is Walsh weitering and Mackay -- all those above 26 are just helping us get there and will most probably be gone before the dynasty arrives .. we will be 4 years off spending our first on a 26+ yo player .. would not be surprised if Austin was dictated to last year of what we need .. Cripps got chance to be Shane Crawford

He said our roadmap for the next 5 or 6 years needs to be clear. I don't think it's as simplistic as the age profile of our side.

No it's not age profile but it is definitely mapping to 5 years time when we have a chance of contending ..

We should be contending soon. Those 2015 draftees are all turning 24 and that is prime age. With a smattering of older players like Cripps, Doc, Williams, Saad among the older players, we are cherry ripe if developed and coached right.

Fools are a common species over there. One I used to play footy with in the US, big lumbering bloke, eagles fan, tried to tell me one night, without knowing who I supported, that the AFL should kick Carlton out of the league as they were not good enough. This was 2006! I gave him a brief history of Carlton's achievements as Victoria's most successful club, duly called him a f***ing idiot and walked away. Never really talked to him after that, what a moron.

The big difference is that they did it with the same coach. If we had a good coach we could re hash the list if needed, but under Teague, guys were played out of position, their form went backwards, the game plan was taxing mentally and physically. A new coach with different ideas could revitalise this group with out too many sweeping changes. Don't get me wrong, we still need to improve our list, but at the same time we don't need to throw the baby out with the bath water.
