Johnno spoke about the insanity of the 1987 battle of Britain when he got suspended whilst already being suspended. Also mentioned that he didn't like the overseas matches at all.

In 1986 my club won the flag by 132 points, which was a pretty fair outcome. We were on our trip away in Launceston over Melbourne cup weekend. Having a great time in the casino when Johnno and Rhys walked up to me and by name congratulated me on our success, even to the extent if knowing the margin.

As it turned out some of our team had seen them and worded them up knowing how much i loved the blues. Had a great chat and they had "escaped to tassie" to get away from John Elliott who was trying to drag them over to Japan to play in the exhibition game over there.

From memory Rhys threw about 9 heads in a row on the 2 up. Big night that one.

There's a dude called Tim Miller who has penned the same article and distributed it among AFL content factories online; it's on The Roar and a few others.

I'm loath to link it, because I don't want this person getting clicks based on my input. Suffice to say, I have a rather long memory, and I'm certainly not clicking on this fellow's penmanship anymore.

I am writing this post to do two things:
  • if a version of that article appears on this forum, I'm deleting it.
  • if you see the author trying to cozy up to Carlton supporters in future, you know where you stand with him.

Being a bit precious, no? It's just an opinion piece.

It's not the piece but the trend. He's a vulture, using this whole thing as a means to build his profile.

Is it precious to create circumstances in which ethical journalism might arise?
Not precious but naïve, and what is a bit precious to act this way on a personal opinion of a journalist.

Every post Aph makes regarding SEN starts off by saying saying GUESsen or something like that. Petty, sure, and lets everyone know what she thinks of SEN, however she hasn't taken it upon herself to start a campaign against opinion journalism by banning them from a thread, she still allows them despite not liking them. I don't believe just because you don't like this person doesn't mean you can dictate whether people here would like to discuss his piece.

Given it's on The Roar I doubt it would've made it here anyway and by pointing it out you've at least made 1 more person (me) aware of it and him than otherwise would have. I've never heard of the fella or seen the article but since your post I've both looked him up and read the article, probably the opposite of your intention.

I read it too based on your post Gethelred - it was pretty schlocky but his core contention wasn't wrong, the AFL rules are a mess.

The inferred attack on Cripps and Carlton was poor but what I'd expect from a wannabe AFL accredited journo, they are after all one of the few sports leagues that both control their own press (have a look at how many of the worst 'journalists' work for AFL) and openly aim at the lowest common denominator - all this gutter muck is doing is emulating his desired peers.

In three minutes, I found it in 4 different places; sometimes published under his name, sometimes as 'staff' or 'editor', sometimes without any author. Unlike you it seems, I read the Roar quite a bit over the past 10 years, I've even had articles published on there. We've had articles from the Roar in this thread, and a Richmond nuffie posted this article in the MRO thread this morning.

However, I do understand that from this point, before posting anything in this thread I'll be certain to tag you first to make sure it's okay, that I'm not being naive, petty or making a decision for anyone else. I do have a question, though; how is this not you making said decision for me?

Short answer: I'll post what I like, thanks.

I didn't decide to ban an article from a thread because I didn't like it, you did that.

I also haven't made a decision on what you can do, I've criticised your decision to ban something from the thread because you personally didn't like it/don't like the author, I don't think a mod should be doing that on our behalves. I then criticised your naïve notion that you were trying to encourage ethical journalism, which again is completely subjective based on the reader and not for a mod to decide for us.

Of course, this is just my opinion. I could be wrong and maybe mods should have the right to censor opinion articles based on personal opinion of the author.

If you don't like moderation, report the post you don't like.

Other than that, I think we're done here.
