Story in today's Age that Ken Hunter and Ken Sheldon are forming a charity to help players with mental issues and depression particularly moving from playing footy to life after footy.

Details Ken Hunters mental struggles and notes that he is leaving his brain for testing after he dies.

They have others like Nova Peris and Justin Madden on the board. Good on them, sounds like an area that needs more work.

Wayne Carey's age article this week was Bout who has to lift for Carlton to get their mojo back.

Quick summary;
Cripps - playing well, is our best player but needs to bring others with him and balance his game a bit.

Walsh - young gun but needs to have more impact than just getting the ball a lot. Needs to have more inside 50 disposals.

Weitering - sometimes takes a while to come back from a shoulder injury but has another gear that he needs to find.

McKay- always looks like he's playing injured and opponents feel stronger sensing that. Needs to get to more contests.

Nothing earth shattering there and probably agree with most of it. His final thoughts were along the lines of all of these things happen there is no reason Carlton can't win all three games and how confident would they be going into finals if that happened.
If only a bunch of players played better it would whisk us right into finals contention - brilliant article!

As a special comments guy i find carey tells me nothing more than I see on the tv screen.

I find most ex-players offer the most value when talking about their personal experiences; how they reacted to /dealt with form slumps, injuries, training practices, experiences with coaches, former teammates etc.

The rare better ones offer some insight into gameplay and current football trends, but otherwise most are little better than the general public on list management, gameplan etc.

the good ones can apply the knowledge and give the punters something more than they simply see/hear themselves. In my opinion, Buckley and Leon Cameron (who I heard recently) Are good examples.

I think some of the delivery is part of the issue. We don't like to hit up targets inside 50 in favour of kicking long and high.
Both Harry and Charlie have a habit of running backwards towards goal and waving the ball arise to kick it long instead of the them leading into space for a chest mark.

Harry just confirmed that we are content with mediocre.

Season is still a positive even if we miss out on finals. 🤔 😬
It struck me as much more as just trying to be positive, rather than accepting mediocrity. When I saw it, it seemed like he wanted to say “no”, but wanted to stay positive. Seems like people have read it a bit differently

If the playing group aren't hungry for finals, when will they ever be?

The off-season recruit for us will be a competent sports psychologist.
Of course they are hungry.

He’s not going to come on say we fail if we miss finals. Reckon they have enough pressure on them without the players adding it on to themselves

They didn't look hungry to me in the last couple of weeks bar a few players.

To be clear, I’m not suggesting all the players have the mental maturity to present consistently, but to suggest they don’t give a * about winning is bullshit.
I'm not suggesting that. I am suggesting some of them aren't hungry enough - and it shows with our efforts on and off the ball.

Harry is one of the biggest offenders in this regard. Is built like a mountain but doesn't use his frame.

Harry speaks OK and is a gun

But pls don't be content with ending up out of the finals

We have made strides, what? We have moved from bottom 4 to middle of the road

3 weeks ago we were chasing double chance

H, its OK to say that's what we play for and of course it is a failure

did you expect to go from bottom 4 to top 4 in one season? who do you think we are, collingwood?

The players say they want it...
But when things get hard... Don't think, deep down they really do want it...

Seems, they are happy being comfortable...

It's a better year than last year, wins and team wise...
But missing the 8 is a fail to what we set to achieve, we would have missed our goal, any way you spin it...

We still have 2 weeks to win the game we need, let's see what they are made of...
