Interesting story on how they may have unlocked Harry's goal kicking issues. He definitely looked more confident last night.

The Blues conducted biomechanical analysis of McKay’s kicking action during the off-season to pinpoint why the 2021 Coleman medallist lost his way in front of goal last year.

It highlighted how a short step in McKay’s approach just before he kicked the ball sapped him of momentum and played havoc with the rest of his technique.

I thought Harry's kicking looked fantastic last night. Running through and kicking with straight momentum instead of his usual hooking motion.

In pre season everyone shanks the odd ball though, half way through the year is when the skills really get to an elite standard for teams as they are accustomed to the speed and totally match fit. If it's a problem in round 10 I'll start to worry, right now not even slightly concerned with his 🦵.

30 seconds from when you are awarded a mark/free, use the time
Exactly!
Pull out The Times, have a sip of tea, relax.

Kingy: "They'll bash their way to top 4. They are so tough."

LOVE IT!!!

This is the week that every Carlton fan loves David King. “I always liked his opinion.”

Harry's routine was much better, seemed to be more decisive in his setup

Although, thought it was still a little rushed, rather than a smooth motion

Not a fan of “use the 30 seconds”. Varies by player and situation (have ball, waiting for ball, umpire setting angles etc)
Old fashioned here. Once set, my attitude is let mechanics take over FLUENTLY. Use your time sometimes puts too many thoughts in heads. Back from mark, in line, balanced, GO, whether 5 seconds or 30. Kicking, including goal kicking, needs to be an instinct, albeit honed through repetition.

Harry is a natural good kick. Wasn’t a “butcher” in his first couple of years. Reportedly a manic trainer and preparer, somewhere along the way overthinking entered the equation. Bloke needs to trust himself. Rarely misses from beyond the arc. Just one option, a drop punt and kick through, steering won’t get it there.

Across the game, field kicking is better than “back in the day”, but too many spearheads have a suspect and spasmodic approach today. I get a “snap” when need to get some work on the ball, but it is too much an “out” for players with poor techniques or shaky head space.

Gaz Lyon saying Mckay would be a great centre half back yesterday is actually a good idea. Wont ever happen because he’s a great forward and they don’t grow on trees, but no reason why he couldn’t be a freak in the back half

I respect Lyons opinions but that’s just ridiculous

Harry talks about his kicking on the Ben and Harry podcast and how he went through the bio-mechanics with experts and has undone years of a loss of momentum via faulty step in his run-up to re-engineer his kicking technique and it still currently work in progress .... However he is putting lots of work into it every session of the preseason thus far
