This is the game where kouta go nuts and was unstoppable....

If i remember correctly........

After another carlton goal which ends up on the roof of one of the stands, the commentator mentions that Kouta is the only one at the ground who has a chance to jump up and get it back... This was in reference to how good he was playing and his athletic ability...

They were kicking towards the left hand side of the tv screen, i think...

Lets see how good my memory is...

Just need to remember to push the "R" button on foxtel remote.

Just a reminder that the last suburban clash between Carlton and Collingwood in 2000 from Princes Park will be on 7TWO at 1:30am this Friday morning.

Thanks for the reminder HBF :thumbsu:

DVD recorder is set :)

I get to see myself on the replay

From memory, we had to purchase a ticket ($4.00) to be assured of getting a seat/entry in the Social club for this game.

I don't actually recall that. I do know that I had to get there very very early to get a seat in the SC. Where did you normally sit in the SC Aph?

Only because it almost caught me out folks ... HBF means tonight, not tomorrow night!

Sorry HBF, I know what you put there is correct, but for me Friday 1:30am means late Friday night, rather than late Thursday night, it might be the same for others.

I was just about to put a reminder in my phone when I thought I better check ... glad I did!

Watched the 2nd half - Simply awesome stuff

As, I think it was Gerard Healy said - if only there wasn't a team called Essendon that year, it would have been 'Carlton by how far?'

I always said we were the hardest team at the ball at that time. Hickmott and Hamill in the same team ... wow.

Hamill was the perfect foil for Lance. Lance was only half the player when Hamill left. There were some lesserlights doing well amongst that sort of company, Fletcher and Freeborn to name a couple, as well as the aforementioned Hotton.

Funny seeing Hamill, Campo and O'Reilly running around in our colours (though I loved what Campo did for us) and kind of enjoying urging Scotto on in Magpie colours. He never looked happy there for mine.

Mixed feelings watching that game, to be honest. Predominately stemming from prior knowledge of what unspeakable horrors were just around the corner...

Seeing Andrew McKay running around again was bloody fantastic though. This bloke I think deserves recognition as one of the all-time greats to have pulled on our jumper. He was just SO good, and we miss him SO badly. Everything you'd want in a footballer really.

Good also to see Simon Beaumont having a good game and kicking a few goals, I always thought he was harshly criticised by our supporters.

Some other viewing was more disturbing, however. Seeing players like Scott Freeborn and Simon Fletcher impressing the commentators really proved how poor our depth was at the time (or was soon to become), as they ended up being from an entire generation of younger players that never quite went on with it (Houlihan the only exception).

Was also pretty sad to see Lance Whitnall in such poor shape even as such a young man. The club really had to take a proper stand back then - his career would have been so much better for it.

Watching Hamill take big grabs and crash packs was also very frustrating, as was the mere presence of Steven O'Reilly on the field.

But I guess any game where you thrash Collingwood by over 100 points can't be that bad...:thumbsu:

how'd the big kouta train go in this game?
Fast, powerful, all over the ground and made the commentators gush when he was within 50m of the ball.

Doubt that.

Had a bung hip as a junior and was never really able to run. The knee came second and once the hip and knee are gone the weight goes on pretty quick for some.

If Lance didn't have a good footy brain he would never have made it out of juniors.

Missed this as i just got back from Sydney on biz but my lasting memory of this match is Aaron Hamill.

I've never seen a guy before or since so intently hunting any and all opponents in such a determined fashion all day - even when we were 15 goals up. So ****ing gutted when he left. :D:(

Just got up to see John Terry complete my Multi on sportingbet (carlton sponsor) to see another Carlton game on

I remember this game because it was my brother's wedding and I spent half the night coming back to the car to get score updates

It was a good ending for Blues supporters

Rd 1, 2001

That was a treat. They should show footage of Hammil & Hickmott from that game to every recruit to show what we expect from them.

What amazed me is that, even as good as we were in 2000, we still had filler like Culpitt, O'Reilly, Fletcher, Freeborn, and White getting games. We might not have as much top-end star power now, but our bottom five each week are much better.
