It seems forever ago.... what happened to that team :(
injuries to key players... lack of confidence and form...

and the lack of mental fortitude to pick themselves up off the floor and out from under the weight of expectations when the manure hit the rotary oscillator...

What makes me rage every week whenever I watch Carlton...

WHY THE **** DO THEY KICK IT TO BETTS AND GARLETT LIKE THEY'RE ****ING KEY FORWARDS?
They're MIDGETMEN for chrissake, I know Betts can take a hanger but to expect them to win the contest every time like that is a JOKE!

(also, Waite isn't the solution, he's the most overhyped player when he's out injured and then he continually fails to deliver when he comes back in)

Those 3 junk time goals by Hawthorn finished us off by qtr time. Lapses like that kill us. Lack of effort in the 3rd quarter.

Gunston had a free pass. Where was Bower? Much as people malign his disposal, we miss his dash out of the backline and he would've been that extra tall defender.

Garlett again too cute with the footy. Could have had 3 goals.

3 rucks failed again. Mothball Kreuzer - doesn't have the fitness to play as a defender.

Not working hard enough to get the footy or prevent forward entries - Hawthorn 54 i50s.

Won't win another game unless we unearth a forward line.

Army didn't have much of the footy but was creative and tackled. :thumbsu:
Watson will be a decent player with 50 games experience. :thumbsu:

To summarize - we were a one trick pony club with Fevola, overly reliant on the same tactic week in week out. Now - we are a one trick pony club - press, spread, bomb. Sounds like a porno movie.

Atleast at the end of a Porno you are normally Happy..
A few Points id like to make.
I know Watson is Young and inexperienced, but if you watch the footage of the 1st goal of the game when Roughead snapped the goal, Watson was way behind and honestly ive seen B Doubles with better turning circles than Watson.
What the Hell is the Deal with McCarthey, Kerr and other young players who just dont seem to be coming on.
Give Mitchell a go in the 1sts, play him at Full Forward for the remainder of the season, dont play him for 2 games then drop him.
Trade, i know everyone is saying a key forward, but a A grade Mid to work with Judd, Murphy, Carazzo would be great, Travis Boak would be a great get, maybe bundle Russell and a draft pick to Port for him.
Ive never knocked Ratten, and as much as i loved the guy as a player its time to go, Get Malthouse and get him NOW, Malthouses 1st game as carlton coach against Collingwood.

The following players will not be in the team from the Collingwood match earlier in the year when Carlton plays Collingwood next week
definite missing:
Murphy
Waite
Laidler
Henderson

possible missing
Curnow ?
Hampson?
Bower?
Kreuzer?
Lucas - had 5 inside 50s in that game

Personally, I don't agree with a game plan of including 3 ruckmen. If you need speed lose two of the ruckmen.

In: Lucas... i don't care about his recent form in the 2s..has speed, versatility, knows what to do on the forward line.
In: a new player eg McInnes. Has good form in the 2s. Get some youthful enthusiasm in the place. blood a new player.

Out- two players out of either Hampson, Kreuzer or Warnock & or Garlett. (Garlett is one of my favs at the club, but form has dropped off)

Watching the players warm up last night, you could tell that they were going to get smashed. Dropping marks, kicks wayward, and the players involves did not seem to give a stuff. Chris Judd is an out and out champion and with the crap he has to put up with I don't know how some of his team mates can look him in the eye with some of the poor efforts that were made last night and for most of the season. For the first time in a number of years we have had a tough draw and we have been found wanting. If Judd was not playing we would be a bottom 5 team. Well this week it is the Pies. We touched them up last time when they were undermanned. Based on last nights effort they are going to win by 60 plus points. Nine rounds remaining and from what I can see of the draw possibly 4 wins which will leave us with 10 wins which is not enough for the finals. Culture at Carlton has too change and Malthouse is the one to do it as he did at Collingwood. We have a lot of dead wood and players just not upto it. Trade and delist as best we can but we will be stuck with a lot of them for 2-3 years.

FFS play Thornton in the forward line, at least he can mark and kick unlike Hampson !

Why wasn't Bower playing before Bootsma ????? Not bagging the kid at all but he's just not ready yet.

I am not so certain with the Malthouse thing. Carlton had tried a successful coach from another club (Pagan) a few years back and that didn't quite work. A coach from Collingwood? That hasn't worked at any time in Carlton's history.

The only senior coach I would have utter faith in is Leigh Matthews (I know he coached Collingwood early 90s but that was a long time ago and as a coach is more linked to Brisbane). Either way, I doubt he has the enthusiasm to coach again.

Otherwise a new coach (should they choose to go down that path) should come from a successful system with proven runs on the board...someone linked to Geelong etc. Depending on how the season pans out there is an argument in keeping Ratten for one more year.

Agree Thornton is a better option than Hampson -but Thornton is a selfish player. If he gets that aspect out of his game that would be beneficial.

For me, Bootsma before Bower. Bower is part of the past...Bootsma is about putting runs on the board for the future. They need to blood a couple of players.

Carlton have had only ONE player debut (Bootsma) this year in a team that is supposed to be injury ravaged. Why do they keep going back to the same well/same fountain?

Successful teams (ie more competition to get a spot) have had more debutants than Carlton:

Hawthorn (For example) have had 2 debuts.

Boumann and Hill

Adelaide have had 3

Kerridge, Lyons, sam Shaw

Carlton have had 1 and are supposed to be injury ravaged...

That's what happens when you get Ross Lyin as a coach and he plays his favorites over much better players. Sadly its an affinity our coach shares and a part of the reason why he's going to be out the door.

If you think Alex Silvagni is a much better player than Zac Dawson then you know SFA about Fremantle and have likely watched just the 1 game this year. Hoffy is a Cats fan though so all in all a very peculiar post.

replay watching-1st half done
won toss-work carrots
great 1st goal D Ellard
Army head high delivered in 1st half-pure acting by Hawks
Army's goal - skill general
Ellard et al puttin body on line in marking contests and tackles but no support and ball drops out or is passed away to a free hawk because nobody is working away from the ball
Bootsma - hands in the back is obsolete
Gibbs- laying boots into him and did a nice pass to simmo. Being used to save a game but just will not win us the game. That is the waste
Somebody had a crack at M Gale. At least she supports CFC every week unlike many here
Good goal by Yaz

Have another scotch

...
well what kids would you like to see?
kerr get's pushed off the ball to easy in the vfl,an lacks that "something" to make it,dale needs time an games to gain fitness an learn, buckley under done, mitchell can't get a kick in the poor foward line in the vfl, carter just isn't good enough.. levi has been hurt, mcarty, mcinnes are being held out of the team by watson who is also young an getting a game,

i'm all for playing kids, but gee none of those at this stage yell "play me" .. so why not keep playing emu an Aj etc an at season end if they are still making mistakes cut them an keep those players above for enough year..

It's going to be interesting seeing my mob play yours. It's a beating by the Dogs or Kangas (or some other pretenders) that will really put the pressure on Ratts.

That performance last night was absolutely pathetic. We showed maybe 5-10 mins of good football and the rest was utter garbage. What pisses me off is when we let teams get out to an early 4-5 goals advantage, we are never good enough to come back and make a game of it. WE need to make it a clear objective in the trade/draft period to recruit a bunch of players who can kick (and handball for that matter), who can actually hit targets 20m / 30m / 40m away, because our use of the ball was embarrassing and has been all year.

Ratts said after the game he thought a few positives came out of the last qtr. What? When the game was already dead and buried, you don't make any inroads and you lose by 50 pts you can still find positives? Please.

His body language for the whole game smacked of a coach who knows he's coming towards the end of his tenure.

Another quote by Ratts after game: "Our movement inside-50 tonight wasn't good. We'll keep practicing until we get better."
This worries me cos this has been the case for 10 weeks and the practice clearly hasn't improved one iota.

I lost count of how many times they got the ball easily over the back from their kicks ins andhad about 4-5 loose players streaming forward for easy goals. How does that happen? Is that poor workrate from the players or are they adhering to a structure set by the coach? It was embarrassingly easy the way they streamed fwd in numbers.

Now is the time to start blooding young new players, whether they are ready or not. Kerr, McCarthy, McInnes. We may as well expose these players to the top level because they will only get confidence from playing in the seniors. Holding them back is not going to work, we are not going to play finals and we are not in good enough form to turn this slump around.

The team would have been stronger last night with Bower in the team. Gunston embarrassed our Buddy-Roughy centric defense.

Forget the future, some of us still want a win!

And yes, that means next week when it's still mathematically possible to make the eight.

Thought Gibbs played well as a midfielder. Cannot understand why he was moved to the backline at half time.
I know they needed a defender with a bit of size after taking Bootsma off, but this was a classic robbing to pay scenario.
With Judd and Simpson copping a heavy tag, Gibbs was getting involved, dishing off, getting to space then delivering with precision. It was what so many have wanted for so long.

I think there is a lot of merit in some of this. Judd still has 2-3 years left, why not trade him to a club where he might have a chance of winning a flag before he retires, while you can still get good currency for him. Actually how old are Kreuzer and murphy? They could also probably be traded to a club that might give them a chance of winning a flag in the next say 8 years while you would get enormous value in return for them to help you rebuild for your next genuine tilt at a flag

Hope to see plenty of you guys at the G next fri night. Should be a cracker

Another one. Enough of the digs guys. I don't care how carefully would word it, we're not that naive. You want us to trade away players just into or approaching their best so they have a chance of winning a flag in the next 8 years. So Carlton can't win a flag in the next 8 years huh? Geez, some Pies fans are full of themselves. Be gone.

Gibbs was moved to the backline because Ratten is a defensive coach, thats what creative players should be used for, to tag. Thats all you need to know about Ratten, it says it all, he lives in fear.

I think it's Ratts.

Who plonks 2 ruckmen in the forward 50 and calls it a forward line?!?! We need McInnes or Mitchell, ffs Hampson and Kreuzer aren't trained to be a Buddy, a Crameri, a Tippet. They are averagely co-ordinated ruckmen.

IT"S THE RIDICULOUS SET UP OF THE TEAM ON THE FIELD.

ALSO play the young guys, don't keep recycling hacks like Joseph.

AND Kane Lucas, Thornton should be in the team FFS! Even Curnow! The coaching is giving Carlton no hope of a win. Lucas is a gun, he just needs to be given a go. He really reminds me of a Simpson / Camporeale.

I think it's time for Ratts to gtfo. He's just got no clue.

Thank gawd we have Scotto, Carrots, Juddy. And I thought Watson was good. Did you know Watson grew up as a FF and we have groomed him as a backman. Now is the time to stick the guy at full forward! No forwards line apart from crumbers, and Walks is out of form. Jees Ratts.

/end rant
