Could we bid on Blakey at 3 instead of Lukosious? (If the 3+6 for 1 trade happens of course)Interesting, no Blakey

Even at 3? Then why wouldn't we bid?I think he was just talking about "live" picks. Don't think Blakey bid was relevant to the article. What happens with Blakey will be interesting in its own right but is largely a non issue because Swans will 100% match.
How lucky are the swans to get access to quality kids without bottoming out![]()
Mick Turner is a bigger Sam Walsh spruiker than me (and that is saying something).
Fact is, 2 in the top 6 is too good to refuse.
SOS and Agresta know that numbers trump messiahs. Each of Luko/Rozee or Rankine/Smith is better than Walsh by himself.
GC would be mad to do such a deal. But we take it if offered.
With all that, I still am on Team Walsh, reckon he will be a star and is the type of player we need. I'd be sad if we miss out on him. But I also trust SOS and Agresta, they are professionals with a proven track record; if they do a deal then we will be winners.
Not sure about Twomey anymore. Doesn’t seem to be as on it as he used to

If Lukosius was still on the board, I would take him first, if not definitely a bid on Blakey, as I see him as a similar player to Roughead with more natural aggression

As others have said, a GC trade for Pick 1 would have to involve next years 1st.
I would take 2 & 3 for Pick 1 and next years 1st. Might even be able to pry out another second rounder from them.
Only problem is that it leaves us with zero currency next year.
Presumably GC would get Walsh and also our 2019 pick 1. Its still a 2 for 2 deal.SOS and Agresta know that numbers trump messiahs. Each of Luko/Rozee or Rankine/Smith is better than Walsh by himself.

Depending on their timeframe, getting Walsh (and our 2019 #1) might be better foundation to start a rebuild.
I'd be trying 1 and future first for 3,6 and 24.As others have said, a GC trade for Pick 1 would have to involve next years 1st.

Great to hear. Although to be fair, even despite our recent past, all of Walsh, Lukosios and Rankine will be desperately hoping to come to us instead of bloody Gold Coast or St Kilda.I like that. For that story to come out in my mind Sammy has had a chat with Mick Turner asking him to indicate he's keen as to come to Carlton. Turner didnt need to come out and say that to try and convince a club to draft Sammy, he was always going to be drafted early. He wants Carlton though, not the Suns or the Saints.
Thats the commitment we didnt get from Shiel.
What do we think Bolton would want? Let's take SOS out of the discussion right now and focus on the coaches needs.
Does Bolton need more young men that require the extra attention, consideration and TLC. It's hard work and he's done it for the past three years.
Walsh is in the mould of Cripps from the point of view of being self-managed and would make for a wonderful complement straight into the senior squad.
Or, would Bolton be happy to take on two more juniors from which high expectations are a given, and for he and his crew to manage and develop, amongst what already is a very young squad?
I wouldn't blame him for wanting Walsh and it seems to me that when all the hype around other picks blows over, he'll be granted his wish. (opinion only. Not fact)
I reckon clubs are more tight-lipped this year given the live trading of picks. Not sure about Twomey anymore. Doesn’t seem to be as on it as he used to
Out of interest, have we ever selected the best player to come out of a single draft? I’m ruling out Judd (selected by West Coast), I am thrilled with Cripps, but the competition in his draft class is tough, and Charlie Curnow might end up the best in his year, but it’s a bit early to be definitive. Other than that, I can’t come up with many. Simmo runs close (ironic given the penalties). Maybe Camporeale?
