His skills are awesome. He effected a turn-over tackle on Mitchell. His kicking techinique is just perfect - even off one step he can clear 50m e.g. kick on the HFF to Fev in the goal square. Gibbs is all class. We just need to gradually ease him in. These NAB games are an ideal opportunity to get our young players some invaluable experience. And for the record, despite the media-spin, the Hawks side was very close to full strength, only some ordinaries weren't included. All the Hawks best players were on the park last night. I only wish we had played Bower instead of Saddington though. :)

Bower -In
Saddington -Out

Its a no brainer for next match

Was very impressed with Gibbs tackling. He looked nervous when he got the ball, but his tackling was great for a second game, 17 year old. Can't wait till he's comfortable at AFL level.

The tackling has improved out of sight Murphy,Gibbs,Simpson,Russell,Betts,Cloke all tackling fantastic.

Russell put Bateman out of the game, JR didn't have a lot of stats but all of a sudden he seems to be enjoying the physical side of the game.

Exactly, which is why I would give JR first crack at Wells on Saturday night.

Does that mean they won't use their brain at selection?

They have one.......count him....one key tall forward, then some part timers. They have a number of young running forwards. I would have thought this was the perfect time to play Anderson.
Out: Saddo, Jackson
In Anderson, Grigg

Agreed, thought the tackling and pressure was the difference forcing hawks into turnovers. It was interersting to see us breaking so many of their tackles though, they might be a good running team but their tackling was pretty ordinary.

What about Bower?

What about Bower?

I think he has a big future, and should have played last week vs the Hawks.
It depends on match ups. The roos have been playing a number of smaller forwards and Thompson.
We may need another smaller defender type.:thumbsu:

What I liked about this weeks win over last weeks win (f@#* how good does it feel to say that?!?! :D ) is that last week we killed Essendon in the clearances and it flowed from there, but Essendon aren't much of a clearance team. Hawthorn was the 3rd best clearance team last year and we matched them for toughness around the stoppages.

It was a great test for the toughness of our young midfield and they should come out of it in a position to kill Kangaroos in the clearances next week and we are very well equipped to match tall timber with them in the kep positions at both end of the ground -bring it on!!!

Eddie Betts is one of my favourite players, just for the forward line pressure he puts in each week. We shouldnt' leave the pressure to the mids and defence.

If only all our forwards chased down players, and made it harder for the opposition defenders to get away.
