What are peolpes thoughts?? I ve always liked those on the speed at the valley and from memory maldivian has a good record at the valley as well @ $4.8 on sportsbet looks a good price

Pretty small field... Let Go Thommo is a non winner, I'll take Tipungwuti, perhaps Gotta Have Heart could be the value... on pace runner and good record at the Valley.

Just had a look at the fields for Saturday... Turrfontein in the Zedative... I think he might be a bit to good for these...

$4.80 for Maldivian is way unders! He could not lead this field. If he works home strongly connections will be happy. Save your cash and wait till he gets to 1800- 2000m. Back a fit in form sprinter here.

Agree Yaaablett. As much of a fan as I am, I couldnt see Madivian leading or beating these over 1200m. I thought Let Go Thommo was the logical choice going on his last start.

You boys make very good points and granted he is being set for the Aus Cup.

However if we take a line through last years winner who was also set for the Australia Cup i think it puts some weight behind Maldivian.

El Segundo won this race last year with a weaving run coming on from the back. He was a bit of a track specialist as is maldivian. To be honest dont remember the quality of the field maybe Super Elegant (who was over the hill) and Red Dazzler (who produced his best at the valley) but they are educated guesses

Don't think maldivian has to lead, just off the speed would be fine. Am still to do the form in depth but i was surprised by his opening quote, just my opinions however

Rail back to the true position might help make the track even.

It races horribly when the rail is out 7m - favours leaders big time.

El Segundo and Maldivian are two completely different types of horse though I think. El Segundo has that electrifying sprint (and loves the valley) which is going to give him a chance in those shorter races if he is in the right position when the sprint is on. Maldivian is more a highballer out front, grind them into the ground type. He doesnt have the same turn of foot which is why I really cant seem him winning this race. He would have to lead to win this IMO and over this trip he wont be able to do that I wouldnt think.

Yeah all fair points, i suppose time will tell. Hope he runs well anyway

Maldivian will not run a place, anyone here who logically thinks in there own brain that he will beat these over the 1200m are either 1. Mentally retarted or 2. Playing hairy fairies with everyone, Maldivian has never won first up and his not gonna start tonight thats for sure.

Back Concinero, is in company that he can handle and goes well around the Valley, beautifull type of race for him as well.

He is a seasond campaigner and reguarly gets flogged, having 5-6-7 starts a prep wont faze him. Seems to relish flogging it out for a long period, he has the experience of staying up for a while so I wouldnt let that put you off him.

So who have you got your money on Yabs?

I'll go with Casino Prince to sneak in for a bit of an upset. :thumbsu:

Don't expect the Boss to win - although El Segundo suprised us last year

I always go for class over distance specialists in these races, a very good middle distancer will still beat a good sprinter over sprint distance IMO.

Tipungwuti from Cocinero, TIC to round it out. LGT and Mal not far off

Yeah was shot a long way out mate, looked like a horse screaming for the barn.

The Maldivian run was ok, they really set it up for him out the front with the chopping and changing of the leading horses and other idiot jocks making silly runs 700 out, anyone with half a brain would have just sat off them a tad and watched the idiots in front kill them selves.

In saying that anything over a mile+ I think Maldivian will just about be unbeatable, actually I think he will be unbeatable.
