Following on from a post I made last week...
"...From my experience I believe that backlines, not forwards do the most damage in Grandfinals. Flashy gets crushed in finals. Goal sneaks get shirt fronted. Enforcers rule, lightweights get driven into the dirt...."
Brisbane had heaps: Voss, Michael, Leppitch, Scott bros, Lynch, Brown, Pike. Probably a fair few others. Those blokes absolutely MONSTERED teams during thier 3 years on top. And with guys like this in their grand final sides, it's no wonder they won three. Remember when they spanked us at Skilled a few years back? Corey got his shoulder popped out by Voss. Bomber said it was "boys against men." Now it's our time.
If the cat's have any hope of being a dominant team, they must start packing some serious arsenal in their handbags. Skills are great, but we also need some mongrels, people who intimidate.
Here's who I reckon could step up to the plate
Mooney: He's an animal. Already the team's main enforcer
Rooke: Hard and bruising. Another year and I reckon he could have a physical presence in the middle like mooney.
Henry: He has the size, but he needs to get angry. Someone up forward has to do it. And lets face it, it wont be Kent. Or Charlie. The 175cm Chappy has more presence at times than Henry.
Lingy: Similar size to Vossy. He definately looks more frightening. Needs to shake the nice guy tag and start softening people up.
Josh Hunt: he has the physique to bruise.
Shannon Byrnes: no
Steven King: Ruckman Damian Bourke when captain was a tough bastard. Kingy needs to get amongst it too and lead from the front
Scarlett: But he just doesn't look tough with that haircut.
Egan: Has potential. Maybe.
A few notable mentions (but a bit on the small/ skinny side): Chapman, D. Johnson, Milburn and a few others
Anyways, what do you guys think?? Who has the potential to be like the Hardwicks, Solomons, Ricciuto, Archers etc? Every top team needs them.
btw I reckon Bomber should start Mooney and Rooke in the centre against Carlton this week and put the fear of God into Stevens, Murphy, Kouta and co.
