'Category A' games and Gen Admin (please explain)

Can someone please explain how this rubbish new system works (apart from making a bunch of Collingwood games more expensive, making it even harder to convince my neutral friends to attend a game).

I'm assuming all Cat A games are reserved seating so I can't just rock up on the day and scan my membership card to get in?

How does that make sense, since I guarantee these games aren't going to sell out.

Does the AFL want people to go to games or not? I'm confused.

I've already got Fox Footy. It's great.

However, I've only been to about 2 games this year rather than just about every game in Melbourne for about 5 years prior to last year. I know this is terrible and I want to get back into going but my other Collingwood friends are all lame (all basically married with children and home loans and broke and busy), but I can't get anyone to go with me if it's going to cost them like $50 each to sit where I normally sit.

Why does it cost $50 where you sit? When I use to but Tickets(Before I got a Reserved Seat Membership) and they cost no more then $20 each.

Also the Food is Disgusting Price and That would also keep people away.

Just shows the AFL does not care about there Fans:mad:

AFL want’s you to stay home and Watch it on TV.

So the Next TV Deal be worth even more

Doubt that. They'd make much more money from people who attend, and probably did sone whiz-bang cost-demand analysis and determined a higher price point would bring in more money than the people who stay home because of it.

Maybe they think more people would become members too to lower costs, like a gym it's golden for businesses to have people buy memberships and not use them, money for nothing.

AFL does obviously have an interest in promoting TV ratings too though.

Make your own Dave, buying takeaway food sends you to the poor, fat house anywhere.

I'm bringing vegie chips like $1.50 because I don't like squashed old sandwiches and a thermos with coffee, maybe a couple of muesli bars and a good feed before you go your sweet for $2.50 instead of $20+ and all the queuing/missing the game.

Most of the food at the footy I wouldn't eat for free anywhere else but they suck people in who aren't prepared.

Then what happens when more and more people don’t go Games because of being Priced out of Going?

I only Buy the Hot Chips and I get rest of the Stuff from Home or from a Supermarket.

But that should be no Excuse for the OverCharging:mad:

They watch on TV and someone with more money takes his seat, they know a lot of fans are like you Dave, they'd do almost anything to see their team live. Don't think it would go up more than a few dollars to cause massive unrest, and it is a shame people less well off might miss out, but if you want to go badly enough, you will go.

I dont agree with the policy, I think they should try fill as many seats as possible.

Yeah. Stadiums do that though, not AFL. It's the same at any event.

Which is Disgusting but wouldn’t the AFL have some Say in it? Stadiums Rip You Off so Much it’s Disgusting

Nah I think it's between stadium and catering companies. It's annoying but there's a big difference in heating up 20,000 pies at once to cooking one in your oven for example. I used to buy out all the time like a fool and wonder why I had no money, save so much cooking same thing for yourself and nearly always better, like a pie straight out of oven compared to one sitting in pie warmer all day, 500% price difference.

I've watched most games at home for years. Saves me time, effort, money, cramped train rides, being cold, being able to piss between ad breaks instead of missing half a quarter...

But should not be like that. When did AFL Game come from Elitist and Rich People.

I thought AFL was a People’s Game?

Everything is about the almighty $ to the AFL unfortunately but in a way necessary to keep game strong and thriving.

and That why the World is F**ked Up because of the All Mighty $$$$

Pretty much all Pies games are category A. That's what pisses me off the most. Pies v Dogs at Etihad Sunday twilight and they class it as category A? They couldn't even pull 30k. What a load of crap. We as supporters get screwed for supporting the biggest club

Yep - We support the Biggest Club so we have to pay for it. Sickening.

Buying a Membership is Probably the Cheaper Idea

Hey mate, sounds like you have a GA home membership like me. It is now worthless. To get a half decent seat you need to shell out at least an additional 20 to 30 bucks a game. Every game we play seems to be a cat A or at least more expensive than last year. A reserved seat on level 1 for the Carlton game last year cost me an additional $17 with my membership. Now it'd be like $50.

GA is now allocated at the top of level 4 behind the scoreboard. It is very frustrating to watch as the wings don't fill up! For the life of me I don't understand why they don't just make the whole top level GA zone and have it first in best dressed... Oh right, they want to rip us off and some people are stupid enough to pay $40 for a reserved seat in level 4!

I can't afford a reserved seat membership and I like to go with friends, so it is a useless option anyway. I'll probably just get a $50 membership next year and just pay for a ticket when I want to go, it'll still be cheaper and I'll get better seats.

This is all good guys, but I kinda wanted some information about general admin seating and category A games more than the price of meat pies at the G :p

edit: Should have refreshed before I posted that! That last post was plenty helpful!

Are AFL membership tickets stuck with the same hindrances or is now truly the time to jump ship?

(By the way, I have a season ticket membership - home and away games within Melbourne).

I've been looking forward to getting to the 10th year so I can go into grand final raffles again, but I might just save the $310 next year and not get a membership at all. It's pointless if I can't even go to games with it.

If I were you, Foxtel, individual tickets to a few games for the win. I got a 3 home game membership. I find it too much of a mission and too expensive to go all the time.

AFL membership is becoming useless in conduction with my Legends.

Might try and transfer it to a family member.

Paying $60 for guest pass for this week game is a disgrace.

Where are you Sitting that would Cost $60?

Glad I got a Reserved Seat Membership Then

I have a Legend membership with a reserve seat on level 2. When my kids are a bit older and want to come with me I will have to either buy them a reserve seat membership, or give up my Legends membership and return to GA. If I go with option 1 I will be forced out of level 2 as there is a waiting list. If I go with option 2 it is going to cost me an arm and a leg to get decent seats. I notice that Ed sits in the MCC with his two boys.
