Will be a very tough review for a few players but great team effort to hang on, on very tired legs.

Thought Bowes was solid down back and may have found a spot. Didn’t deviate once where quite a few did (some numerous times).

Some things today totally irritating. Some just don’t want contact at all and some do the impulsive things for self glory other than team work.

Good to see Miers in the team huddle singing the song.

What I liked:

  • Smith and Holmes first half was great.
  • resisting the urge to put Danger in the mid
  • Neale I thought had some bigger impact late with some big grabs.
  • Forward pressure was good for the most part.
  • Defence held up well.
  • Tommy effing Atkins.

What I didn’t like:
  • Rushing forward at times was ordinary.
  • a lot of softness around the edges.
  • selfishness crept in the forward line.
  • some underperforming badly.

These wins when we have so many players barely impacting or having really negative games are huge for our season and show a fair bit of mongrel and character.
Guys like Neale, COS, Mannagh, even OH all had some really really poor efforts or plays, and all of them had some positive moments that ended up potentially being the difference.
Mannagh of course more positive than the others but the point still stands.

And I'm happy to keep saying it - he's 26 games into his senior career, he'll make mistakes, he'll have quiet games & quiet periods within games but we're also seeing he'll have those big moments

He did it in the last quarter against Freo in round 1, and we saw some more big moments in the last tonight

He's a work in progress and as long as we keep seeing these steps he's taking, I'm looking forward to watching his development
He had 8 touches 1 behind and 5 marks. These standards se for neale are incredibly low by some fans

Still struggling to work out how we won that game. We looked dead in the water for about 40 minutes of footy...

The one positive to take from that is we found a way to win despite a pretty terrible performance.

Really glad Mannagh redeemed himself with that last goal.

FWIW for those that watched on TV.
Hawthorn fans. Grown adults... Actually go to the footy in Wizards hats.

Our forwards were superb in the last few minutes to get the winning goal. Danger still looking like he’s playing some of his best football in his career and he’s 35. Impressive.

Hope Miers is okay, was nice to see him in the circle singing with all the boys.

In another example of how Champion Data rating points mean 4/5ths of SFA, Hawthorn had the 5 best players on the ground, and 7 of the top 8, yet still lost.

Good win, I’m at an age where wins against hawthorn give me a sense of joy that can only be replaced by finals and grand finals.

Ollie Henry, geez think he needs to take some time and get some form, he’s not adding any real value outside of being a decoy and being out marked by his opponent.

Felt smith and Holmes were really good, and the flow from defense to attack is better than the start of the year. Wasn’t a very high possession game.

We suffered for a long time by bombing it forward and letting hawthorn mark at will inside our F50.

Stengle looked a lot better today, our smalls ran both ways, we are probably just an inside bull away from being a really great side again.

Still 4-2 after the first six rounds, gives us some sort of platform to work with.
