It's all economics, not emotions. If you can afford a really large & cool plot then good luck to you, take up as much space as you like. If you are too pov, and can't afford to buy a property because some prime land is taken up in Carlton by rich dudes before you - save some more money.

Why on earth would you save money to buy a tiny piece of land for yourself when you're dead. This is the idiocy i'm talking about. It just doesn't make any sense.

Reading this thread a few things come to mind.

Cemeteries are an extravagance.

When we build housing estates over them, this happens.

I'm not saving money for it, it will just be spare money that I don't need to use on anything else.
If you've got spare money, send it my way. In return I promise I'll arrange an awesome grave for you after you're gone.

In East Timor they throw a big party when someone dies. My dad was doing volunteer work over there and made friends with this young guy and offered to pay the rest of his uni fees. The guy said "Thankyou, i'm going to throw the biggest party when you die"

I know its a dark topic but been thinking about this and wondering how long can they just keep burying people in the ground before one day some bloke stops and says- "shit, were running out of land, theirs cemeteries everywhere".

I don't know but seems like it could become a problem for the future, I'm talking 100's of years from now. so it wont effect our lifetime.

Not really our problem, the future generations can fix it, but still I'm interested to know what peoples thoughts are on this topic.

As usual, my personal sage George Carlin covered this years ago.

It's one of those things that we think is required, but really it isn't. We need the land, plough it up and get moving. If you've been buried a fair while there's nothing left anyway.

Once I'm gone, just pour on the gasoline and light it up!
I think the less we could do is buy the most top quality gasoline considering we are going the cheap option. Surely we could save a few of our life saving towards that. Maybe have a gold canister.

Which ever fuel burns the easiest and maybe one that doesn't leave a bad residule smell - Just because I'll be gone doesn't mean I still won't be considering the others that remain :thumbsu:

can't say I'm an expert about these things

I'll take a Hunter S Thompson exit... ashes fired out of a giant cannon on a 50m tall platform, accompanied by fireworks, with Bob Dylan blaring.
That had a certain style didn't it? Failing that I quite like the Indian idea of being put on pyre, set on fire and then sent floating down the Ganges.

If not that put the ashes in an ice cream bucket and spill them over your friend accidentally. Worked for the Dude.

Keith Richards claimed to have snorted his father. Willie Nelson wrote a song called Roll Me Up And Smoke Me When I Die, I'd imagine you'd get a fair buzz off Willie.

I'd like to be cremated in a huge solar furnace. An array of mirrors all concentrating sunlight to a central spot, high at the top of a tower. A cheap plywood coffin is shoved in at ground level and elevated up into to focal zone. Zap, bam, smoke all over.

Not that i could ever be bothered campaigning or getting in peoples faces about it (because it's such an emotional topic for many and the arguments would cause me me to feel more depressed about the majority of humans) - but i think that taking up land to bury people is ridiculous. It was fine in the dark ages when we didn't know any better and there was 100th of the population we have today. But to do it now is just one of those things i find so so stupid.

Burying people is all about sustainability. Carbon deposits for future generations to mine for coal, diamonds etc
