Big loss, I only see them a few times a year but for me, he along with Thompson are their two most important players.

I’ve heard Curran is off to play in Melbourne. That would bring Nyah back abit.
What’s Jye Barry up to this season? I heard he might be staying up north for a little while and doing some travelling around in the dry season as you can’t really do much of that in the wet season?

Zac Denham back to Tyntynder from Ultima & Buol Majur back to Swan Hill from Heidelberg reserves.

I couldn’t tell you but even if he stays up there you would imagine they will qualify him. He will only be needed for a few games during the H&A season anyway, the rest will be very one sided.

Massive news on the injury front out at Nyah with International project player Sam Cockram going down with a season ending corky

Tyntynder announce a signing.
Originally from Naracoorte, Sam Bates has represented the KNTFL Senior Interleague side, and featured in the past two Grand Finals with Robe Football Club in the Mid South East Football League.
He now lives in Darwin and plays Premier League football for PINT Football Club.
Sam is a small forward who can also rotate through the midfield.

Size of league raised at meeting between afl vic and leagues today .
Inference was given that it is expected most of the ex GRFNL clubs will merge into other clubs or be non existent by end of this year .
I think 2 will find another league, one will die the other should be ok

Macleod hops across to Roos

Balranald have landed a major coup ahead of next season, with the club announcing the appointment of former Mallee Eagles co-coach Brent Macleod as senior coach.

Macleod will take over the reins from Jask Salau and Ben Fuller, with Salau appointed senior assistant coach for next season.

Macleod coached the Eagles alongside Harry Allen in 2024 and 2025, with Mallee reaching the preliminary final both seasons, before being bundled out by NNW United on both occasions.

Making the announcement via their social media platforms this week, Balranald will be aiming to improve on their four-win, 12 loss record this season.

“Brent brings a wealth of experience, passion, and leadership to the Roos, with an impressive playing career spanning the TAC Cup, SANFL, NEAFL, and interleague competitions, Brent is known for his elite kicking, versatility, and strong on-field presence,” the club stated.

“A proven winner, he’s achieved multiple premierships, league best and fairest honours, and leading goalkicker titles — and now brings that winning mindset to Balranald.

“Off the field, Brent’s genuine passion for developing young talent and his ability to connect and communicate make him a perfect fit for the Roos as we continue to build towards a strong future.

“We’re incredibly excited for what the 2026 season holds under Brent’s leadership.”

Macleod won’t be the only fresh face pulling on the blue and white stripes in 2026, with the club also announcing the returns of former locals Liam Farnsworth and Khy Jess.

Farnsworth and Jess will both return to Balranald following stints at Redan in the Ballarat FNL, with Jess winning the Ballarat FNL rookie of the year in 2024 and finishing runner up in Redan’s seniors best and fairest.

Both Farnsworth and Jess will add to the Roos midfield mix, along with Macleod, with Jess returning after spending the past seven seasons at Redan and playing Coates Talent League football for Ballarat.

Allen lands in Eagles nest

The Mallee Eagles have also announced their coaching structure for next season, with Harry Allen set to take the reins at the Eagles as head coach.

Allen was co-coach alongside Brent Macleod in 2024 and 2025, but with Macleod’s departure to Balranald next season, Allen will fly solo at his home club next year.

The Eagles announced Allen’s appointment via their social media platforms this week, with the club set to announce further re-signing’s in coming weeks.

“A proud Lalbert local, Harry brings valuable experience, having been an integral part of the coaching team over the past few years,” the club stated.

“As a player, his skill and determination have earned him dual Jack Betts league medals and a club best and fairest.

“‘Wiz’ (Allen) is passionate about building on the strong foundations laid in recent years and leading our club towards our first flag in 30 years.

“We are thrilled to have Harry, his partner Issy and newest addition Lucy in the blue and gold in 2026.”

Raiders continue recruiting spree

Koondrook-Barham have continued building their playing list ahead of the 2026 season, with the club announcing the recruitment of Tom German and Ryan Bartlett this week.

German joins the River Raiders from Tallangatta & District Football League club Mitta United, having previously coached Western Football League club Spotswood for two seasons.

German will take on the role of assistant coach at Koondrook-Barham under Marcus Demaria, who led the River Raiders to this years’ elimination final, with German boasting an impressive CV that includes stints with the Coates Talent League club Calder Cannons, VFL clubs Williamstown and the Northern Bullants and a rookie list spot at Essendon in 2008.

German also coached Ballarat FNL side Bacchus Marsh for three seasons and is a four-time best and fairest winner at Oak Park.

Joining German and the River Raiders is Bartlett, who will add depth to the Koondrook-Barham’s midfield, having spent time playing and coaching in both Victoria and South Australia.

German and Bartlett will join fellow recruits Jack Poulton and Cameron Anderson, who were previously announced as new signings.

Ritchie joins Demons

Nyah-Nyah West United have announced their first big signing this off-season, with former Macorna key position player Lachlan Ritchie joining the Demons in 2026.

Ritchie played three seasons with Macorna (2022-2024) and kicked 65 goals across 48 games with the Tigers as a defender/forward, before playing two games for VAFA club St Bedes-Mentone this season.

Ritchie also played one reserves game for the Demons this season, against Tooleybuc-Manangatang in round 10, and arrives at the Demons having previously won Macorna’s best and fairest and been league MVP in the Golden Rivers Football Netball League in 2023.
