He has a point, the current fuel shortage may be a very relevant factor as to who turns up to play at some games along with the fuel cost. The fuel cost from Melbourne, Geelong or South Australia to Hay, Balranald or Manang return is going to be a factor for some players. Maybe some clubs go back to the old bus to transport players.

Overlander might have to be used and bus system! Imagine getting bus and train each weekend. I used to do it as a young fella getting train to Bendigo then bus to Swan Hill. Took about 6 bloody hours one way!

Perry out for the year for the tigers. Huge loss and with no Gardiner either I think they could potentially miss top 3 now

Swan hill are keen on a win in round 0, Rory Atkins in for a one off game

If both swan hill clubs lose round 0, they might as well pack up for tne year. Both clubs have spent big to buy a win first up against the two former Golden rivers clubs, seems real panic stations

From Friday's Guardian newspaper.
The Moulamein Football Netball Club is calling on local teenagers to lace up their football boots, with the club urgently seeking more players to help it field an under 18’s team for its debut season in the Central Murray.

With numbers currently short of what’s required for its Colts team, the future of the Swans eight registered under 18’s players hangs in the balance, prompting a community-wide appeal for new recruits to keep the club’s youth program alive.

With two high class coaches in Heath Moloney and Darcy Hare appointed to lead the team this season, Moulamein are now calling for any boys aged 15 to 18 to “come and have a kick this season.”

“We’re not trying to poach players from other clubs, but if they have a list of 25 or 30 players and there are kids who aren’t getting a game every week, then hopefully they would consider coming and playing for us instead,” co-coach Darcy Hare told The Guardian this week.

“I love sport and watching it is all well and good, but if you’re a kid, you’re probably more inclined to want to kick the footy and play, rather than watching.

“We’re hoping to get a few more numbers, we have eight at the moment, which is a long way off 18, but we’re just seeing if we can recruit some kids that either haven’t played footy before or are at another club where there are heaps of players and maybe want to have a bit more of a go on the field each Saturday.”

Part of the clubs call to arms includes a free meal after training every Thursday night, as well as transportation to and from Swan Hill on the clubs’ bus for training.
