The main reason this is being floated I believe is that our government has been grossly mismanaged, and we have a big debt at the moment. But we could only merge with SA if they were willing to take on all of the responsibilities and problems of the hundreds of indigenous communities. Last thing they need is to be further marginalised and forgotten.

An opportunity to carve up all of Australia

FNQ from Townsville up and Darwin/Katherine to be sliced off and one state.

Central Australia is now South Australias

I've always loved THIS old map (1838) of Australia, and the proposed 'states':

The idea of living in an area called Flindersland appealed to me as he's my favourite explorer.

Funny seeing where Victoria and Tasmania are, and Melburnians and Sydneysiders would all be in the same state :P

Our debt would be wiped over-night were our government to develop some balls & start representing it's people by making the multi-nats, who are stripping our assets, pay their taxes.

But it hasn't got any....So it'll continue to pick on the poor dole-bludgers, so as to increase the size of Murdoche, Lowy & Kagan's pockets all the more.

Should South Australia and Northern Territory merge?

Yeah...Don't mind the idea of splitting the central corridor into 3 disparate states....With Alice Springs as the Capital of Central Australia.

Probs a good idea to split up both of W/A & Queensland also.....All the One Nation supporters can be herded together into the new district of Bogan-ville.

Imagine the towing fees?....Aye Karumba.....No short-cut through the Suez there.

Just get rid of all the State governments and have 2 levels of government, have more localized decision making via councils who are better funded and overseen of course. The federals take care of the big picture items.
I've long been an advocate of this strategy. We are way over-governed and the State tier should be removed.
I am yet to see one credible justification for their existence.

I see you and raise you Annastacia Palaszczuk and Jackie Trad, and that's just Qld.
We will always have meatheads in power in Canberra, regardless of their political persuasion. Why replicate them 8 times around the country?
