Ellis-Yolmen - 29 Disposals - 22 Effective - 7 Clearances - 9 Score involvements - 1 goal - 1 Clanger - 4 Turnovers
Jarryd Lyons -25 Disposals - 17 Effective - 4 Clearances - 4 score involvements - 1 point - 4 Clangers - 6 Turnovers
19 contested possessions as well.. 7 more than anyone else on the park.

So you're proposing a 2 year contract extension for CEY? :D
I think they’d be stupid to get rid of him... either a one or two year extension.. he’s becoming a very reliable depth player and if Sloane leaves or we get injuries at the start of next year again like we have this year (****in hope not).. next year he might be needed that little bit more... but at this stage I see him back in the sanfl as soon as bcrouch is back (which hopefully is the second half of this year... please.... pretty please..)

Gold Coast beat us in the clearances. I assume Lyons had a big part in that........

No - Weller, Millar, Swallow, Witts, Day, Fiorini all had more

How many contested possies for Lyons?;)'

9 CPs for Lyons.

Lyons had 3 clearances. The difference was spread of clearances - we had 9 players with zero clearances, 6 with one, 4 with two and 3 with 2+; for Gold Coast, 7 had zero, 4 with one, 2 with two and 9 with 2+.

Clearance leaders were CEY (7), Crouch (4), Greenwood (4) and Gibbs (3) vs Miller (5), Weller (5), Fiorini (4), Swallow (4), Witts (4), Barlow (3), Bowes (3), Day (3) and Lyons (3).

CEY had the potential to be a very good player for us, he looked stronger around the contest than Lyons did a couple years ago, but probably they were vying for a similar spot and were both around the top 20-25 players of our team. Losing Lyons was probably a loss for us, especially it didn't give us mucj in return. However, the flipside is that due to our loss in Lyons and also the loss of Dangerfield, this would have fast-tracked the improvements in MCrouch, Greenwood, CEY and a few others.
Lyons is a very good player. We have enough depth now to cover for these sorts of players, and which CEY is one of them. Especially more so, we can hope to see more improvements in CEY with more AFL games on the board.

Sitting at AO watching Lyons play live the eye test told me he would still only be depth for us.

I agree. Lyons gets plenty of the ball but doesn't seem to have much hurt factor. After watching the replay and watching Lyons carefully I rarely saw him at all TBO as it seemed to be at the Crows. CEY is doing just fine at the moment, we don't miss Lyons.

If it came down to $$ then I agreed at the time and I agree now. Does anyone know how much he was asking for. We could have offset one year of his contract by not keeping on Thommo an extra year, but at the end of the day you have to have money available to keep good players in all positions. We did have a lot of pressure on our TPP at that time with so many guys that needed to be re-signed, including Lever at the time. But he would have been great to keep on the list. But of the players that we needed to re-sign, he was probably the lowest priority. I didn't like that we gave him up so cheaply. Also, we made that decision partly based on Gibbs and then didn't close the Gibbs deal.

Even with full team i think hes best 22. Shift sloane to a wing replacing Atkins.
Leaves crouch x 2, gibbs, CEY, greenwood, Douglas, Gallucci, Knight running through midfield and half forward plus any draft picks this year.

Considering how shredded and fit CEY looked before doing his knee last year let's not forget he is 7 games into his first season back .
I really do not think it is fair to put a ceiling on him as he was firstly never really given a chance and then suffered an ACL .
7 games back and he has been very good overall . He is an absolute BULL and there are only a dozen or so of these types in the AFL .
Our midfield as a unit functions so much better with him in the team and let's see where he is at mid to late season with him rounding out the edges as he gains strength in continuity .
In 3 of our wins he was a if not the major part of our clearance and contested possession domination .
Plus he is a selfless tackling machine , averaging around 8 hard tackles per game .
He is one player i can live making a couple of mistakes due to what else he brings .

Yeah Sloane isn't replacing anyone on the wings. That midfield you described is too inside heavy IMO

The thing about his mistakes is they are generally made in heavy traffic and the majority of them have been when opponents have intercepted his handballs as he’s dishing out of the pack... I think it happened 3 or 4 times against the tigers in round 2 alone.. it’s not exactly a mistake that is confined to CEY, happens to many players even some of the best. His just stick out more than others, maybe because the scrutiny is higher..

Some his handballs out of congestion to crow team mates running past in recent weeks have been brilliant.. the receiving team mates haven’t had to even break stride to take the ball and some of these have set up/led to goals... one on the weekend on the wing went to either Atkins or brown who then speared it into tex I think, but it was a brilliant handball out of congestion and over the top of other players and straight into his team mates hands..

He’s getting better and gaining confidence with every game but you get the feeling he’s fast approaching his peak... he was among our best Saturday night.
