"Australia's strongest commentary team" says Kerry Stokes.

Talk about delusional. Although he wouldn't say anything different given that it's his network.

"Australia's strongest commentary team [if compared only to our cricket commentary team]" says Kerry Stokes.

Not sure about 7’s commentary last night. Jason Bennett doesn’t seem to have enough catchphrases or get enough players’ names wrong. He also doesn’t seem to realise that footy fans only tune in to listen to commentators talk about themselves and have some hilarious banter in the box. Bennett could’ve also added more to the call by nakedly barracking for whichever team fell behind in the last quarter.

I also think Justin Leppitsch should focus more on talking about who his best mates are at Richmond rather than providing a succinct tactical analysis of the game. Leppitsch could’ve also found some footage of one player giving another a love tap and talked about how that could spell trouble at the match review for half the game.

What stood out last night to me was how out of place Darce was next to blokes that actually do the job well. No BT or JB or Duck to joke around about how good that call was or how good they were in their day, and no one that wanted to buy in to his constant sycophancy towards players, and no mates to perpetuate his obvious bias towards certain teams. Hmmmm.

bt's insistence that he was right and the maggot was wrong with where cameron had to line up was the epitome of him as a commentator - refused to admit he was wrong, even when the rule was pointed out to him about the free kick recipient needing to line up in line with the goal if the game was 'in play'

it wasn't quite as moronic as his intercept mark take earlier in the year, but if you don't know the basic rules of the game should you really be in a position to commentate on it?

JB at least has the pipes for calling a game, and his appreciation sounds genuine to me. Whereas with Darcy and others I feel they are appropriating the achievements of the players for their own means, or want the game played in a certain way that suits their employers. Hudson in particular seems to hate defensive play. Plus Darcy has a speech impediment so he has no business being there.
