Just curious how many ppl on here love the game, personally I think it's gr8. I just bought championship manager 4 and have started a game with Villa. In CM 01/02 i had successful stints at Villa, Man Yoo and Inter.
My formation is
GK
CD CD
DMC DMC DMC
AMC AMC AMC
CF CF
Set to long shots, pressing, hard tackling, mixed passes and attacking. Very successful it is.
My CM4 Formation is 2 complicated.
Niculae
Cisse
Kallstrom
Van Der Vaart (speaking of him I saw him on Fox last night playing he is incredible)
Are just some players that turned out to be fantastic value 4 me.

CM01/02 is great, but it is a bit easy to have successful stints at powerful clubs. Try a second or third divison club at minimum and work your way into the premier league. I was Wigan in division 2 and brought them to Champions League victory in 4 seasons. This is what my first 5 seasons looked like: (Div2 1st, Div 1 2nd, Premier League 15th, Premier League 2nd, Premier League 1st)

I played about 12 seasons and havent played it for a while, but I did continually win the PL, CL, FA Cup & League Cup so it get a bit boring being too good. I won the Premier League something like 8 seasons straight after my title.

CM4 I didnt like as much as 01/02 because it was a bit buggy. I put the patches in, but it was still much slower to process a 5 league career than it was in 01/02, so i got bored of waiting for the news too load and stopped playing it after a few weeks.

I love all the Championship Manager games although I was disappointed with CM4 when it came out. Since then with Enhancement Pack 5 patch, everythings been great, though a tad slow sometimes.

Embarking on a new campaign with Blackburn myself, and the first man I signed? Farnerud. I share your opinion Bulldog, he is a great player in CM4. Versatile too.

I play it its awsome

I know a ton of cheap and good players.

Maxim Tsigalko
Julius Aghahowa
Arjen Robben
Jairo Fernando Castillo

If you want more i'd be more than glad to post them up.

Seriously i own in this game

I play a

2defenders
5midfilders
3striker

formation

CM series is the football fans choice of for a manager game. Superior in all aspects, sales figures don't lie.

EA manager games are for dead-head americans who dont understand football.

played it??

ive played cm and it bored me. its so good the sigames and eidos are splitting up and not making it anymore

Some players I have found very useful:
Freddy Adu-offer him a contract as soon as you start a game only 13 but he develops in to an exceptional player if given his share of first team action right from the start.
Serge Makofo-from Wimbledon as a 15 year old, will cost approx 250k he is described as a right back but his best position is right mid with a decent right back behind him, creates countless chances for your strikers,
Wesley Sonck-cant remember where he came from and will cost a little but he is well worth the money will score 30 plus goals every year.
Also Kallstrom, Farnerud and Pericard have all been very good players.

I've had some amazing careers in CM 01/02

Most notably Middlesbrough...

Season 1: 4th place, (UEFA Cup spot)
Season 2: Title, UEFA Cup
Season 3: 2nd place
Season 4: Title, Champions League
Season 5: Title, Champions League
Season 6: Title, Champions League, FA Cup (Treble :) )
Season 7: Title
Season 8: 2nd place (trophyless!!)
Season 9: 4th place, League Cup (got sacked!)

Soon as I got sacked I took the Blackburn job...life goes on. :p

Actually the othe day when my friend bought CM 4, the salesman showed us this game called club football i think, its for PS2 and they have all the top club sides in the world man u, arse, juve, real even Villa surprisingly and u just by your clubs game. But i think in it you manage your club as well as play in it.
I think the website is www.clubfootball.com
They'll explain it more clearly there.

Some other players that i bought who tur out sweet are
D. Cisse
Aimar, although he's injured nearly every second game
t. smith
n'diaye
lizarazu, he was old but fit in well with my form
robben
prutton
j.cole
schumacher
quaresma
ruiz

I have Championship Manager 4 and I think that its a good game. I have only ever played 1 whole season and that was with Liverpool in which I came 2nd. Manchester United won it by a point. I was leading almost the whole season until I get a heap of injuries in which I dropped a couple of matches and ended up coming 2nd. Was great fun though. I don't think I have started the next season yet. Will be aiming for revenge.

This reminds me how good the game is. I will be playing it tonight!

Haven't played Total Club Manager but I have heard that it is no where near CM.

Own both TCM and CM4 (with latest updates) and have to say CM4 is streets ahead of TCM. The 3d mode in TCM is absolute bollocks, the strikers play as wingers. I also won the title as Leeds, shows how realistic it is. TCM has a crappy points system which as Stam pointed out is suited to stupid Americans.

CM is certainly the best manager game around, with all the stats and data, but i agree CM4 is too slow and has too many bugs. I really hope the coming edition will solve all those little problems

Farnerud is a hot prospect, so is Kallstrom. But I have to mention Damian Luna, Joleon Lescott, and Anatoli Todorov. Diego didnt play that well in my team (Parma). Jermaine Defoe is a good one, Emerton can be
handy
Some other established players are Alex and Aimar, and their clubs will sell them for the right price (which is not that high)

I've gotten Kallstrom before and he hasn't done much. I love the game but my computer ruined it for me, last game I played I came 6th, then 2nd and won the UEFA. During that off season I managed to get Ronaldo for 12m pounds with Kleberson and Mendieta and suddenly the computer tells me I no longer have enough memory to continue the season yet since then I have had no probs

One for the mid-bottom table clubs is Richard Sadlier from Millwall, who has sadly succumb to injuries in real life.

Regardless, he's a nice forward that develops nicely.

played CM since CM3, but CM4 had an amazing amount of bugs, which really turned me off playing it. EP5 fixes most things, and although there are some unofficial squad updates, i think i will for an official one. or CM 03/04.

i found a ****load of awesome young players, and unheard of players though in the short amount of time i did play. daniel carvalho and jay mceveley were players who did really well for me. i really wanted to get my hands on adriano, but parma wouldn't sell him. i managed to sign rooney though, but he's a stuck up prat in the game, always whinging about something.

I was recently introduced to Champ Man, about 4 months ago by my visiting cousin from England. Ive got CM 02/03 on XBox which runs smoothly, way better than getting the CPU version which I wouldnt be able to run on my piece of **** anyway. Im heading to England on holiday this December so I will definitely pick up CM4 for XBox.

I of course went Liverpool and had a rocky start, finished 8th and again 8th in my first two years at the club and it got to a stage where the board tells me my job rely's upon my next result. LUckily I won that game and went onto to finish 3rd that year. They retired me after 20 years at the helm of Liverpool.

I won the league 6 times, FA Cup 4 times, Champions League twice and I was manager of the year 5 times :D Not a bad career.

Couple of players I got plenty of value out of were Rafael Van der Vaart, he is awesome. I got him late though, he was about 27 when I got him but he put in 5 or so top quality seasons. Another player who is awesome on the game is Cherno Samba, 16 years old and he starts at Milwall, absolute quality.

Now im trying over and over again to bring up a conference team. It's extremely difficult, I ususally dont make it through a season without being sacked, or I get through a season and finish top 10, looking for a progression the next year but I cant score or win a game at all and you lose your job half way through a season. I am yet to get out of the conference or to make it through two seasons without getting the sack. The fight continues.
