Changes for 2nd test v India?

Not sure we could know if changes should be made until we see what the pitch will be like, the selectors made a silly mistake by showing their hand and all but locking in a 3rd seamer at 6 before they even knew what sort of pitch it was going to be at pune so locking in a 3rd spinner at 6 before we even know the pitch would be trying to fix one mistake with another.

If the pitch is a lot flatter this is one time i would back them to keep marsh at 6 as the 3rd seamer.

Yeah, depends on the pitch. Don't think there's anyone who you'd be compelled to drop right now. Before Pune Mitch Marsh was the closest, but he made some nice runs with good application. Maxwell's Asian record doesn't really scream out for selection so unless they really need the third spin option I can't see him coming in.

Shaun Marsh did bupkis in Pune but would be jumping the gun to drop him after one bad Test.

Everyone else performed creditably.

I'd give Shaun Marsh another run, if he fails in both innings again then bring in Koala.

As for the all rounder spot, as others have said check out the pitch and take a horses for courses approach.

If it's a bunsen burner swap Marsh for a batsman

If the wicket is like Pune then I definitely agree, 6 batsmen would be the best call. Something tells me India will be changing their approach for the next wicket though.

Anyone know what the deck in Bengaluru is like traditionally?

Mitch Marsh probably did himself just enough to retain a spot, though he shouldn't have had it in the first place.
Both Marshes last chance again, really should be playing six batsmen and Maxwell is not a Test batsman. Hes also not a Test bowler. The problem is only Khawaja is there as a spare batsman and there can't be any confidence he would do better than either Marsh or Maxwell or Agar. He still has to be the one to come in though as despite that lack of confidence he's still the most likely of those in the squad.

I agree with the pitch dictating whether we play an all rounder.

I would prefer Khawaja in for M Marsh. If he is not going to bowl many overs there is no pont having him in the side.

Our batting order with Khawaja added looks quite strong. I'm sure Smith and Warner can bowl 5 to 10 overs between them to replace M Marsh's maximum overs.

Khawaja has earnt the right to play as a batsman in India based on his Aussie summer form. He can't do much more unless net form has a significant weighting.

TBH Smarsh could fail all series and I'd still back him as a better option than Khawaja... Usman is diabolical against spin.

He could've also made runs in the tour game where both Shaun and Mitch did.

Yeah, if he was picked for it.
I only saw that he was in the playing squad, didn't realise he didn't actually play at all. Do you know if he just wasn't picked?

Seems odd to not even give him a shot in a tour match.

Yeah, if he was picked for it.

You get the feeling Khawajas papers were stamped after the 1st innings in Sydney.

Which is a bit harsh.

Anyways if it's a crazy spinning pitch go Khawaja in for m Marsh. If it's a flat road go M Marsh again.

Not sure what scenario I would go maxwell at this stage

Yeah, I'm pretty sure he just wasn't picked and they picked Shaun Marsh, Mitch Marsh and Maxwell in the tour game ahead of him.

So in theory, they look to view him behind the three of them and maybe just an injury backup to the specialist batsmen.
