Can't disagree with that Marcuz. Although I now fear saying anything negative about Paul Thomas because it seems to upset our SA friends ;)

But we probably need to find out a bit more about him. Might be worth leaving him in.

Dont worry about them...i can always delete their posts. ;)

Yeah i suppose, i'd rather have another look at Nash to be honest. Winderlich should be brought back also. Who to drop for them is the big question as you cant fit every kid in.

Yeah, fair call. I definately think Winderlich has earnt his spot after the Collingwood game and you could probably argue the same for Nash.

We also have to make a decision on whether Wilson or Jolley are going to get a game prior to Round 18 as to whether we are going to give them a taste this season. Both were in our better players on Saturday.

And of course then there is Slattery.

Bolton is one that probably should make way, but that looks unlikely.

Realistically

Ins: Hird, Rioli (possibly McPhee if fit else Murphy :( would prefer Slatts)
Out: Thomas, Johns, Hunt

Sheedy will drop whipping boy Hunt and I reckon he will give Thomas the boot too as he seems to be a new favourite whipping boy. The only thing that might save him is Geelong have a few smalls to contend with and mcVeigh is pushing further up the ground.

Would like Slatts to get a run with role on yeeeeAbbbbletttt.

My hope for the game - Kingsley misses his first shot!!!!!

Will be minimum changes

Out: Johns, Hunt
In: Hird, Rioli(? - didn't train yesterday apparently)

Side:

B: Welsh, Fletcher, Solomon
HB: Richards, Bradley, Lovett-Murray
C: Dyson, M. Johnson, Stanton
HF: Hird, Lucas, Rioli(?)
F: Lovett, Lloyd, Cupido
R: Hille, J. Johnson, Peverill
Int: Bolton, McVeigh, Thomas, Monfries
Emerg: Henneman, Slattery, Hunt

If Rioli doesn't come up, I'd say Murphy would come in.

Amazing, one week he is the thing u need the next he is a disgrace. Didn't see his game so cant comment, giving away frees is not good but for ******** sake he is NOT the type of bloke to be minding a dangerous small forward. Played out of position, simple as that. Put fricken Hille on a small slippery forward....same reult, of course I'm exaggerting to make a point.

Needs to be played more thru the middle off half back, rather than in D50 all night.

He may get dropped but he will be a bomber for a while yet.

I'm perplexed at the Thomas thing as well - from some people.

I had him quite high up in my best for the match. Watching the match from the club itself, the amounts of times I saw him play the role of blocking the hole in front of the leading Brown was quite honourable and sacrificial. Even when Brown took the pack mark over Thomas in that 2nd term, I couldn't fault his courage. I even think he may have a got a finger-tip to the ball on the way through.

It seems too many people want the world and then it isn't delivered, crack the sads.

No one called him a disgrace

Thomas is a small defender who showed promise in that position in recent weeks, he was not played out of position he simply had goals kicked on him. Even playing off half back his main job will to be look after his opponent first. It's what he was recruited for and it's what he looks best suited to.

As for the teams I think it's highly likely we'll see either Winderlich or Slattery in this week. Both of them had earned their position and only lost it through illness and injury respectively.

No one in this thread has called for Thomas to be dropped, rather just predicting the coaching staff to go that way.

I thought Thomas was good, his mistakes were costly. But that is somewhat expected from a developing player.

The thing that slightly worries me, is that he does make the same mistakes. Loses his player at stoppages and can get lost in the air as well.
That aside, I think his last month has been very good and he is making progress.

No one wants the world and I don't think anyone has cracked the sads.

The question raised from Marcuz was not whether or not Thomas is good enough, just who we would rather have a look at in the run home.

Hird, Rioli, McPhee will all come in at some stage. Then there is Winderlich, Slattery, Nash, Wilson/Jolley to have a look at. Someone would have to make way.

Ok maybe not disgrace but suddenly the man for the whipping as someone said.

There are small defenders, and small defenders...some better than others. For the past 4 years he has been a half back and midfielder, and RARELY played deep in defence, even if he played well there 2 weeks ago....he aint a back pocket thats all im basically trying to say.

In my eyes he would suit u blokes better being a midfielder who can drop back rather than a defender who can occasionally get a run thru the middle. Slippery types like Milne, McGrath, Ablett would be too good for him in defence one on one, yet when in attack the opposite would apply.

Good luck to u blokes this week :)

That's fine and we/I understand that.
But if that's the case he is behind Jason Johnson, Mark Johnson, Mark McVeigh, Damien Peverill, Ricky Dyson, Brent Stanton, Andrew Lovett, Jason Winderlich, Angus Monfries, Henry Slattery. I'd rate all of them ahead of Thomas.

That means to play AFL he gets pushed into defense. IMO his decision making quick enough to play as an AFL midfielder, however that may develop with experience. He can get lost in traffic and his awareness isn't all that great.

He does read the play well when it is coming towards him and that is why he is suited to half back. He can provide dash and he uses the ball reasonably well. But he is going to get dragged deeper in defense at times and he going to get isolated at times and they are areas he is going to work on.

I've liked his last 4-6 weeks at AFL and VFL level. And I would like to see more of him playing across half back. However the problem is there is also another half a dozen blokes that we'd probably also like to give a run and we can't fit them in all at once.

Fair enough assessment mate, pretty much agree. Tho I'd put him ahead of Monfries and def Slattery for senior selection atm and prolly Winders, or at least on par with him.

Still nowhere near as good as he can be, must be confidence.

I'd like:

In: Hird Winderlich Murphy
Out: Johns Hunt Bolton

With Rioli's history i'm not that confident of him returning this week.

I think Bolton will stay in though and Cupes will be dropped unfortunately, especially if Rioli plays.

You know what he wil do, he will drop Thomas, Monfries and Cupido and bring in Murphy and leave in Bolton, if thats the case, I wont be going Friday night
I enjoyed Saturday night TV w/o Murphy

Bring in Slattery, Winderlich leave in Hunt & Richards and play all the kids, there is more enthusiasm among the players as well as the supporters which was evident in the crowd against Collingwood, we dont have anything to loose but so much to gain.
