Out: Johnson, Shaw, Maxwell, L.Brown
In: Goldsack, Rocca, Cook, Sidebottom

Need a win, let's cut the save Sidey and Rocca for ANZAC day crap and get 4 points.

IN: Goldsack, Cook, Barham, Rocca

OUT: Maxwell, Johnson, Shaw, L.Brown

With Johno and Heater out we need running defenders, Cook and Barham both had good games in the VFL last week, give the young boys a go i say... although i think Toovey will get back in...... unfortunatly.

Goldy for Maxwell... pretty standard...

Get Rocca back to take some of the heat off Cloke and big Jack, and hopefully bust a few packs and kick a bag while he's at it...

SPOT ON MATE
would love to see rocca kicking goals from 60 metres out , goldsack in for maxy give us some drive and rebound from the defensive 50, i wanna see how cooke is now a days ,and mcarthy has apparently bulked up which sounds pretty good.:thumbsu:

Despite what some people are asking, I cant see Nathan Brown being dropped for this game, when Brisbane has big bodied forwards in J Brown, Bradshaw and Brennan (especially with Maxwell also out).

So I think Goldsack will come in as Maxwells replacement, along with Toovey as Malthouses most likely replacement for Shaw, (Cook is unlikely to get a game in the next 2-3 weeks, until the headlines from his assault charge dies down, as to select him now would simply create bad headlines and makes the Collingwood board look irresponsible – guilty or not).

Dick has been horrendous in his first 2 games, and is to me the new Ben Davies. He constantly turned the ball over, or did insipid things like simply bombing the ball high and long into the forward 50, despite having the time to pin point a pass. To me the guy is a dud and should not play for Collingwood this year, if ever, though Im guessing he might be picked towards the end of the year again once/if he finds some resemblance of form (just because the coaching staff rate him so highly. Though shouldn’t mean he gets priority over equally talented or more deserving players. Remember how much they built up Egan and Cole…)

In replacement of Johnson and Dick, I would like to see them pick Rocca and one of either McCarthy/Stannely (I don’t watch VFL games and know which of the two is the better). As for Sidebottom I think he will get a game or two in the coming months once he develops a little more, but it will probably only be to rest Beams, so that he doesn’t suffer from first year burn out.

I also wasn’t a fan of L Brown after the Melbourne game, but his game against Geelong showed promise, and if wasn’t for inaccurate kicking everyone would be singing his praises. Against Brisbane I think he would be much better either forward or back to take on their big bodies, as opposed to the frail/stringy body of Wood. So it will probably come down to deciding between L Brown and C Bryan, though Brown at the moment seems to offer a bit more around either ends of the ground, and will probably stay in the side for his versatility on match day, if/when things don’t go as planned.

End result is likely to be
Out – Maxwell, Shaw, Johnson, Dick
In – Goldsack, Toovey, Rocca, Stannley/McCarthy

If I were coach:-

OUT: Dick, Maxwell (susp), Johnson, Shaw (assuming suspended)
IN: Stanley, Goldsack, Siddebottom, Rocca

REASONING: Dick has had a culmulative 1 touch in the first half of each game he has played. We cannot cover that sort of underperforming play any longer. Crunch time is upon us and we do not want to be going in 1-3 Vs the Kangas. Malthouse has shown a knack of introducing our young stars for timely games when we need a win, so I would use this opportunity to bring in Steele. Stanley deserves an opportunity and needs to be given time in the middle. This would be the perfect opportunity to provide his worth. Goldsack comes in to provide versatility and cover for the loss of Maxwell. Rocca has shown enough to suggest that he should come in - as it has been mentioned many times before, he takes the oppositions best tall defender thus creating better match-ups for Cloke, Anthony, Medders etc.

What Malhouse will do:-

OUT: Maxwell (susp), Johnson, Shaw (assuming suspended)
IN: Toovey, Cook, Corrie

REASONING:- Malthouse has his love children and they are Brad "the missing link last year" Dick and Alan "awareness and skill" Toovey. To here Malthouse actually call Brad Dick "the missing link to our team last year" made me very sad inside. If he actually thinks that Brad would've been the difference to us making it further into the finals then he has trully lost marbles. For some reason he also rates Corrie - how he has been on our emergencies ahead of Stanley is beyond me. He will play him against his old club. He will also bring in Cook for his toughness - I don't mind this but still reckon Stanners should be given a proper shot.

I think we should bring in Bryan and have him playing as a ruck FWD in and around the F50. He's a handy kick for goal and can take a contested grab, given Clokes form i wouldn't be surprised if he outplayed Cloke as a FWD.

I hope MM adjusts the team this week to suit Brisbane Lions. They are a team that constantly beat us for the same reasons each year.

The omissions of Johnson, Maxwell and Shaw will bite...and it may require a further 2 changes to get the balance right.

Although i hate mass changes, if i were coach I'd be making 5 simply because 3 are forced and there were 2 passengers against Geelong.

In: Rocca
Out: Dick

Has to be the obvious one depending on how ready Rock is. Dick was just not up to it. Has offered absolutely nothing 2 weeks straight. Rocca straightens us up

In: Sidebottom
Out: H.Shaw

A forced change, but Sidebottom had a good VFL game and should be exposed. Brisbane are also quite young, and he would be a good matchup for someone like Dalziell.

In: Stanley
Out: Johnson

Again forced. We need midfield grunt. Simon Black exposes us everytime. Put him down for 30+ disposals again and about 10 clearances unless we get someone to shut him down. Stanley has more than done enough to earn a spot.

In: Toovey
Out: Maxwell

Toovey's skills do not warrant selection, but we are short on defenders this week. Toovey has the versatility to swing onto someone like Hooper, Brennan or Sherman up forward. Could also makeshift as a tagger. We basically lose 3 small/mid-sized defenders this week so we need to bring in backup.

Then I would have no hesitation dropping L Brown for either Goldsack or maybe Corrie since he knows Brisbane and the GABBA.

We don't need a backup ruck this week. Leunberger is injured and Charman was dropped last week for been out of form. Charman will come back and ruck it alone with Mitch Clarke offering backup.

But with Maxwell out, and Jonathon Brown and Bradshaw so dangerous, Brown may be kept in as a defensive backup. The Lions have 3 talls with Mitch Clarke having a good record against us.

In: Rocca McCarthy Toovey Cook
Out: Shaw Maxwell Johnson Dick

Fraser will take on Charman leaving Leigh Brown to ruck once Clark comes on. Toovey to take Maxwell's place down back. I just can't select Goldsack when we have Cox in the team - we can't have two loose defenders in the backline. Marty Clarke can cover Heater's role off the back flank allowing Cook to come into the midfield with McCarthy replacing Dick as the forward crumber.

Again, like last week, these are the changes I believe we will make, not the changes I would make.

Apparently McCarthy is injured. If he's fine by Friday, he comes in. If not, Wellingham gets a run.

In: Rocca | McCarthy/Wellingham|Tooves| Sidebottom | Bryan
Out Dick | Johnson | Maxy | Shaw | L.Brown

Rocca, well, he's a big boy who takes the best defender. He's a huge kick, an inspiring leader, and a smart forward. McCarthy and Wellers are both skilled running mids with good skills. Toovey is a tight, quick defender with a good spoil and a good attitude. Sidebottom is one of the brightest young lights in our team. Bryan will play the same role as L. Brown did last week; rest in the forward line and switch with Frase when required. The difference is that Bryan can kick straight.

I read somewhere that McCarthy had soreness. Given the reports of his 1st half on Saturday maybe he was put in cotton wool to ensure his readiness for this Friday.....

bryan in to negate charman and spend some time deep forward, goldsack and cook in as well. players out shaw, maxwell and dick.unlike many others on this board i have a lot of time for brad dick, he will come good but if i see another person pushing for corrie to play i will put my fist through the computer.the guy cant kick for shit.dicks kicking has been falling short or going over the head of teamates but corrie just sprays it .rocca and sidebottom in for anzac day, mick loves giving the kids a go on the big stage and pebbles needs the extra hit out.

Off memory, we played once last year at the Gabba and lost by 2 points after some really cheating umpiring, played once in 2007 at the Gabba and won, played once in 2006 at the MCG and won.

I think they beat us by about 15 goals at the MCG somewhere in there.
