Considering we don’t have many injuries our depth is really poor in 2019. Not many banging down the door to get a game. Should we cop a hand full of injuries in the seniors we will come crashing back to the pack.

I think our depth is mostly okay, Mayne Aish Elliot Sier Wells are all AFL quality waiting in the wings, our KPP depth is terrible though.

What's with all this drop JT stuff?
He still manages to find clutch goals and scoreboard impact when we need it, he can get up the ground in midfield chains and is reliable ball in hands.

He was unfortunate to be caught an couple of times against Saad of all players who is electric with foot speed but he is best 22 easily.

He shouldn't and won't be dropped.
he gets caught with the ball more than anyone i can remember. Brent Stanton like. plus he seems tackle shy.

34 year old on a 6 day break?
Not sure they will do that, but as soon as he starts dominating at VFL level, they will bring him in, a guy with his skills will always get a gig
Agree - I don't see Wells coming back in this week. It's almost last roll of the dice for him. Think about the situation where he gets another calf injury. That's another couple of months out (usually he is slow to recover) and wouldn't he then be considered to risky, even if he was ready, to be put in any finals side?

I also find it interesting how many people want Brown out. Not saying they are wrong, all opinions expressed here are welcome, just that I see a good player in the making so hoping he gets a good chance to build.

Mayne won't be ready, Elliot will be treated carefully, Aish unlikely. So, for me it will be Greenwood at most risk but maybe not many changes.

The difficulty for the “next” defender is the solidity of the group at present.

The two big boys are locked in:
Moore and Roughead (Dunn the real deal ofcourse but he’s injured)

The next four are locked in:
Langdon, Howe, Maynard, Crisp (these four are just a lock).

The extra defender is somewhat more open with:
Aish, Varcoe, Greenwood all lurking.

Then follows:
Appelby, Quaynor.

Plus once fit and firing Scharenberg makes his claim.

Hard to get a gig.

Exactly and I think Aish is underrated and balances it a bit.

Sharemberg the interesting one cos he’s not the 7th and then who of the “locks” can he displace ?

He’d be the seventh I’d suggest.

Moore and Roughead.
Langdon, Scharenberg
Maynard Crisp Howe

That’s the sensational seven.

I thought Brown was a bit like Ben Kennedy early on but now I'm sure he will make it. Very sure
Already looks a better player.
Though I’ll confess I was never a big advocate of Ben Kennedy, always looked a messy player.
Small players need to add that bit extra eg tackles that really stick, or scoreboard impact, or a ton of possessions or excellent ball skill. Otherwise not sure how they fit in.

It’s our best seven defenders no doubt. But for balance I just don’t think it works. Who would play on Daniel Rioli as an example

I’m a first cab to Maynard kind of guy.

Ofcourse in reality some individual match ups need particular thinking and strategy.
Thankfully there are many better people than me who are better at this strategic thinking and they’ll work it out accordingly.

I’ll just have the template set out.

(Good point raised by you.)

I agree , it’s a great problem to have I want all our good players in the side.

After yesterday's VFL the only changes that should be considered is how to fit in players returning from injury (Aish, Elliott) or how to replace any new injuries we may have gained on Thursday (none have been reported, but Elliott's wasn't the week before). Unless a tall picked up an injury on Thursday that will be one and the same.

Pops up for a goal once in a blue moon then flogs off to sit in the crowd for the rest of the time.

No pace, no brain and is petrified of a contest. Been rubbish all year and needs a kick in the arse.

Serious question to our keen observers.

Elliott obviously is an auto in, if fit.

Unless?
Will they treat with caution, of another week, being Marvel Stadium hard surface?

No change for me. Keep Greenwood in to play on Rockcliff, as he seems Ports go through man off half back/wing, and he sets up alot of their run.

Thomas hasn't hit the heights of last season, but l will give him another week, but he will be looking over his shoulder as Wells is one more good game in the VFL away, from returning to the side.

If Elliott is fit to play this coming weekend, l would give him a run in the VFL.

Interestingly, win or loss, all of Port scores this year have been between 87 and 95 points. And their three top goal scorers are:
Ebert (188cm mid forward), 10 goals
S Gray (176cm), 9 goals
Rozee (185cm), 9 goals

No big key forward or huge scores off one avenue to goal. The way they won against the Eagles was to avoid their intercept defenders with a lot of ground ball contests (aided by the weather). And our defence’s strength is pretty similar.

Being at Marvel stadium will help neutralise conditions but I think this is a big test for our smaller defenders. All of Crisp, Maynard and Aish lack the agility to go with small dynamic forward lines, Maynard the best but his form isn’t flash.

To me that means we need to keep Greenwood in. Start him as a tagger on Boak who has been in outstanding form (averages 33 disposals, 7 clearances, 6 I50s this year) and if our defence is struggling with the smalls send him back with a job on a S Gray or the resting mid.

Every bloody game is a danger game! If we play like we did in the first quarter against the Bummers, we win. Just have to find a way to keep that standard going for the whole game.

That's why they're danger games, if we're "on" we defeat anyone (just about). We're not "on" at the minute - not for 4 qtrs anyway.

No AFL injuries, but a fair few injuries to our VFL depth.

I see on GameDay ch.7 this morning that the banner thingy at the bottom of the screen shows Cox as having a knee injury.

I’m assuming it’s pretty minor but wondering if anyone knows anything about it?

Uhhh, reckon that's a stretch. If his buttock is that ticky touchwood then he's not fit to play for mine. Think JT goes out for him - reckon Billy will play.

I mean he did something to have those 3 shots on goal. Is he kicked 3 goals would he still have done nothing?
He was never a chance with kick from 50 out but the other 2 should have been kicked. At least he ran one minute off the clock with the last two shots.

Current players that weren’t in our side for round 6 that are capable at AFL level...

Mayne, Sier, Aish, Wells, Appleby, Daicos, Dunn, Scharenberg, Goldsack, Reid, Broomhead

Young players that could break through very soon:
Murphy, Quaynor, Lynch

It’s a fine amount of depth, we had similar depth last season with way more injuries and we were ok for the most part

Don’t know if the knee thing is correct, he did get his right calf stood on by Hurley in the 4th quarter and went off. Cox came back on and played out the game but having someone the size of Hurley stand on your lower leg when you’re on the ground has got to hurt.

Agree, except I'd swap Daicos from the first group into the second.
