So when Petrie returns does he slot straight back in as the R/F alongside Giles/Vardy?

Nobody is playing two lumbering rucks at the moment, let alone two shit ones.

Probably. Offers a lot more up forward than both of them and can give the ruckman a chop out. Would be a much better setup than what we're currently going with.

I've harped on about it a bit already but I'd like to see Lamb tried in that role this week in combination with Darling.

Do the selection committee have the cojones to make such a decision though? I fear they don't, though I would also like to see what Lamb could offer.

We'll find out tomorrow arvo I guess.

Simmo has hinted that they'll look at the ruck structure this week, which makes sense after Ryder pantsed us and ahead of playing the Bulldogs who have an unconventional setup themselves.

If they do decide to drop one of Viles, the backup options are basically:
-Lamb in combo with Darling
-McInnes, not much of a change really
-Gov in combo with Darling, didn't work v Hawks and I'd be loathe to shift Gov out of defence again
-Darling, and go small in the forward line while he's in ruck
-Chuck a midfielder in like the Dogs have been doing.

We win significantly more games than Brisbane did; control the pill more and therefore there are less tackles to be had.

So the guy who was asked to lay more tackles is tackling less because we are winning - makes sense :thumbsu:. Care to explain his lack of production in other categories?

For the record, Redden had a grand total of 4 tackles (8th for WCE) against Hawthorn and 6 tackles (equal 2nd but even Masten had 5 tackles) against Richmond. Based on your argument, shouldn't these numbers have been higher given that we lost both games (particularly the Hawthorn game) badly?

I assume the dogs fly over today or tomorrow so we'll have the benefit of getting an idea of what they might be doing before teams are announced

The other advantage of a home Friday night game is that we don't need to sit out a 23rd player this week so everyone who's fit gets to play this weekend.

Obviously DigDug comes in this week if fit, which he should be.
No East Perth game last week so form is a hard one to go by. As Keys said, Friday game good so everyone at least get's a run somewhere this weekend.

Hard to pick an out after such a good win but if there is a team we don't need 2 rucks against it is Dogs so I would leave out Vardy purely for a rest and more healing of elbow.

DigDug for Vards probably only change ATM.

FB Hurn, Barrass, Sheppard
HB Yeo, McGovern, Butler
C Gaff, Mitchell, Masten
HF Sheed, Darling, Duggan
FF Hill, Kennedy, LeCras
FOL Giles, Priddis, Shuey
IC Redden, Wellingham, Mutimer, Lamb/Karpany

I'd like to see Lamb/Karps given a go in place of Vardy (who could probably do with a rest, plus we need maximum run, athleticism & swervability against the Dogs).
2nd ruck to be a combo of Darling/Lamb.
Duggan comes back in for Hutch (unlucky).

Be pleasantly surprised if anything exotic happens.

What does McInnes have to do to impress people?

He's rucking for the first time in his career this season and at one point was 4th in the WAFL for hit outs. Then EP needed a forward presence and he rose to that challenge too. Furthermore, he's popular around the club and works twice as hard our other ruckmen.

There's no reason to not give him a chance this week. None.

Deserves it way more than Lamb.

Would send a bad message to players if Lamb got in to play a similar role.

With players like Redden and Giles around, no wonder we struggled to get the ball out of our defensive 50 against Port. I understand that lack of intent is a serious concern with Jetta but would take 12 disposals from him over 12 disposals from Redden any day.
I think this might reflect the nature of Redden's possessions. The overwhelming % in his time at WCE have been contested, either extracting or linking up across predominantly half-back. He's rarely been used as an attacking option, and it's those few blazing kicks forward that have players like Priddis ahead of him. He's had promising patches this year, and is clearly learning to play under structures after a few seasons of free-for-all at Brisbane. Was quite productive in the 2nd half on Saturday when we needed to dig in. Also, it seems like his running and kicking power is only just coming back after OP; IIRC he used to have a raking foot and hopefully this returns.

With all the talk of our game being largely dependant on contested ball (having conceded the ruck on most occasions and lacking pressure on opposition outside run), I feel it's more important to have Redden's grunt over Jetta's run (which frankly has been non-existent at AFL level since moving here). Redden is also stronger in congestion than Hutchings, and has better hands for cleaner clearances. Whereas you might argue Hutchings gives us a tiny bit more atm, IMO we need Redden to return to his best footy as he is the more complete player and can hopefully make up for the retirement of Priddis in the not-too-distant future.

I too have been frustrated in our carrying of multiple midfielders only getting modest numbers, but we invested heavily in Redden and we must feel he has more to offer in the long-run.

Except for a couple of games, Redden has been as disappointing as Jetta - more when one considers what we gave up for him. Jetta was basically free. Hate to think that we wasted another first round pick so I hope Redden comes good at least to the level he had shown at Brisbane. Not sure about the second half on Saturday, seemed he turned it over as soon as he got it.

I would still stick with McInnes for Giles because of the additional versatility and mobility. Would (hopefully) be really hungry.

Duggan for Hutchings.

Some betting agencies have u guys as 65% likely to beat the bulldogs this weekend?

Do you think this is an accurate portrayal?

I'm thinking more 50-50.

65-35 seems about right to me.

Simply cannot agree with you here.

Didn't expect a lot from Jetta. I thought Redden would be able to take some pressure off Priddis and Shuey - nothing has changed except it is now Priddiss, Shuey and Mitchell. I respect your opinion Biggie - am I to understand that you are happy with what Redden has shown so far? You said in a post (after Hawthorn game I think) that Redden still has some credits from the Sydney game. It is 3 poor games in a row now, does he still have some credits left?

Same.

Even though it pains me to say it, if you look at both of their careers at West Coast, Jetta has been absolutely deplorable and as much as I have tried to stick up for him he quite simply does not give a shit about this team and is here for a retirement package.

Redden on the other hand I feel is really trying to get involved with the Eagles game style and even though he has struggled, I think he is definitely not lazy and from what i've seen from his interviews, he is genuinely trying to get the best out of himself.

sey666 - He is working very hard at the contest, since that Sydney game. Disposal has been awful at times, but he thwarts opposition movement many a time.

Credits are low, but he is giving his all for the jumper.

Jetta couldn't give two ****s, a rats arse or a simple shit about this club.

This is not to say they both haven't been disappointing however, but Jetta has been far, far worse.
