Preview Changes v Geelong - PRELIM FINAL - Friday September 10, 7:50pm AEST, Optus Stadium, Perth - OUT Smith, IN Hibberd

What I'd like to happen:

Out: Smith
In: Hibberd

What I think will happen:
Out: Bowey
In: Hunt

Surely, if we play Geelong again they bring Ratugolea in and try to make Lever accountable though. If that's the case, keeping Smith in would probably make sense.

Defensive matchups for the Prelim/GF (if we get there) will be fascinating.

Goody has been really conservative (in a good way) this year by just playing those who are in form.

Previous year's favourites (Melk, Hibb, Jones) have been dropped for less experienced players who are in form. Obviously no VFL is hard to establish form when out of the side, but because we have had barely any injuries, we haven't needed to rotate players at all.

I think Goody will back in the players that have gotten us this far.

I think this is what he will do as well. Goody has been conservative with his changes ever since he started, very rarely has he dropped any big names or made wholesale changes.

Especially off that kind of win. That could have been a ten goal belting if we had kicked a couple of those sitters.

I agree that’s how Goody will see it and that’s how I look at it too. Once you’re in, you do your job and you stay in. None of the potential inclusions are top 5 walk up starts and Smith is the only one who arguably didn’t do his job.

Find it very hard to believe he’ll suddenly decide Hibberd or Hunt comes in at Bowey’s expense.

That's how it usually works.

Only in recent years. QF winners have lost a fair few prelims to the semi-final winners in that time too.

Not sure why people want Bowey out, got caught holding it once but besides that adjusted to the intensity pretty well and did some good (and smart!) things. Will only be better for the experience.

I mentioned in last week changes thread that I thought Smith’s lack of footy brain would be exposed by Cameron and it unfortunately eventuated - yes he can jump high and looks athletic but every decision counts in finals, we can’t be carrying players with no idea.

Who do you think every other team will now try to isolate for the rest of the finals?
My impression was that Smith prevented probably two more goals being kicked by Cameron. Granted, Cameron kicked 5 but not all on Smith.
Smith played a strong team game and played a role.
I don't think he goes out

No change!

Having watched it again I don’t think TMac had that bad of a game to be honest. Not his best game no doubt and he obviously didn’t hit the score board but I feel he competed, tackled hard and brought the ball to ground.

Will hopefully be all the more better for the run and now having a week off.

Yeah I felt better about him watching the replay. He did find some good spots, just didn’t mark well. If his goal had gone through I probably wouldn’t have been as negative about his game. Hopefully with a few more weeks to limber up he can get more of it.

NO
CHANGE
💙💙
No change is wrong selection concept.

This is final 4 and no more double chance.
Must have full strength team to give us more chances of getting in GF.

Means:
In Hibbo or Hunt
Out Smith (must go)!!!

Smith must go and if he’s in, he will hack the defence structure. Watching him giving free space and goals to Charlie makes me feel angry and panic. I dont want that in PF.

Matthew Lloyd also says Smith is a concern.

Just wanted to pop in and say, heck, I didn't rate you guys early this year, even after you beat us I was like hmm nah, still not ready to say the Dees are much good yet, but... you guys are absolutely fantastic, and I am happy to well and truly admit that.

Best defence in the comp with the best tall duo going around, best midfield in the comp with two of the best mids and easily the best ruck in the comp with a crazy good backup who is only, what, 19? And now a super dangerous forward line, Ben Brown for a packet of chips is an awesome inclusion there to go with McDonald, and two small forwards that tackle, pressure, but actually have an abundance of actual footy talent too. Plus you have a medium forward (Fritsch) that can kick 4+ a game sometimes, so dangerous. Langdon also just a great addition to your team, and a super watchable gamestyle overall.

I'm onboard the Dees train this year and I genuinely hope you win it all. Feel for you that it's not in Melbourne, so go again next year too :)

Cheers and all the best!

Sucks how Victorians have to quarantine for two weeks to attend the Granny.

Makes it virtually impossible to realistically organise a trip

Can’t even do that. McGowan requires a specific exemption such as essential work to do 2 weeks quarantine. So there’s zero chance.

That's really shitty

Yeah was thinking about this last night, not sure how large our WA fanbase is, but if we make the grand final, we’ll have bugger all support, just won’t be the same.

All said would be absolutely over the moon if we did win though.

I suspect our SA and QLD crews might try to get there. I’ve already heard of a few people arranging “essential work” too.
