Yep definitely a big loss, but ive been pretty happy with Weller and I think with enough persistence in the senior side he'll be a good player, hopefully this can be a good game for his confidence.

5 year olds yelling obscenities, isn't parenting wonderful these days? Stanley out isn't good, hopefully Mav can grab his chance. Gaz to tear 'em to pieces.

True to Melbourne weather there's a little bit of cloud coverage now. The abominable Dees serving up a poor crowd. Russell Robertson embarassing hinself in the pre-game. I can't wait for this to get underway. Carn'a Sunnies!

And who knows what Melbourne are going to do, could come out and have a go or just as likely, mail it in.o_O

Any club with so many injuries will have a hard time. West Coast got the spoon with injuries to key players, but Gold Coast are a side in their second year and it is killing them. It is very depressing watching Swallow, Rischitelli, Smith and Prestia struggling to move around the ground, with so many players already gone for the season. Am heading down for the game next weekend and am beginning to feel concerned. I think whatever happens for the rest of the season will not be reflective of the ability of the playing group or the coaching staff, because they will be struggling to field a team with a similar or higher level of competitiveness to last year, with half the side on one leg or less.

WTF is this shit? Don't care what the circumstances are, getting smashed by a shit side like Melbourne is unacceptable.

We are officially the worst team in the comp
Lynch and Day just seem to get worse every week and our defence is threadbare
After we get done at home by GWS next week I will watch with interest the club's response as to where we are.
Lots of discussion re KPIs
I've got one
Worst performances are increasing
Is that a positive?
BTW Harley...you are a superstar

Harley Bennell = superstar. Swallow probably played his worst game in our colours. He is allowed a bad one every now and the I suppose. Dixon continued to improve. All our injuries suck :(

Call me biased, but I reckon Mav really seized the opportunity today? Would be unlucky to be dropped next week. Especially with 5 injuries in todays game.

One of our more disappointing losses of the season :(

My feelings of optimism went out the window the moment I heard the Bull was out of the paddock. Would have been a good match up for Green.

Other than Harley's sublimeness, not a real lot to take from that. They simply beat up on us early. Injuries added to insult.

Going off-board to read Lachie Whitfield reviews to cheer myself up.

That first quarter was unbearable. I couldn't believe what I was seeing, to be honest. They just didn't come to play. Whether that was because we had been doing alright-okay against better sides recently and the boys thoought we could just turn up, or if the 8 day break did some harm, I have no idea. But it was clear that we were just going arounnd in 2nd gear in that first quarter.

To the boys credit they stuck with it for 3/4. So I guess we still only played one bad quarter? Just instead of the third, it was tthe first. Which in turn destroyed us mentally.

Smith did an ankle. Prestia looked like he re-injured the hamstring that kept him out of it prior. No idea how bad it is. Obviously they want to be VERY careful with it, since they subbedd him out.

Hunt did the elbow. Rischitelli obviously should not have been played. He trained strongly, but clearly no-where near ready.

At this stage, I would be surprised to see Smith, Hunt and Rischitelli play again this season. Get them in for operations/recovery and get them primed for pre-season.

Lynch had an alright game, but Day was equally average. I think both tried hard all day, but just always in the wrong position. Obviously having Frawley on Day is no easy task.

I said before this game that we would need to keep Green on a leash, since he tore us open last year. Putting Hine on him was a move that very much confused me. Green needs more respect than that, but with Stanley not playing -- not sure who else would have got the job.

Clearly some of our guns are down on confidence. Lynch didn't want to have a shot for goal so always dished it off. Matera's radar was way off, which didn't help.

Happy with Weller's efforts. This was his last chance you would think and showed enough to keep hhis place.

Also relieved to see Swallow get through alright, especially considering we had no choice but to play him since being so down on rotations.

Positives... we smashed them in the clearances. But delivery in needs a lot of work, as does the functionality. Also happy that we clung to them after the 1st. Could have easily rolled over.

What can Bluey and co. do to stop the mental lapses that result in a huge run on for the opposition?

Here are the coaches votes. Bit puzzling how you couldn't give 10 votes to Bennell that game. Also thought Ablett would have had a few more.

Melbourne v Gold Coast
9 Harley Bennell (GC)
6 Brad Green (Melb)
5 Jack Grimes (Melb)
3 Lynden Dunn (Melb)
3 Colin Sylvia (Melb)
2 Gary Ablett (GC)
1 Jeremy Howe (Melb)
1 Nathan Jones (Melb)
