Although Sheed was better against the Saints, I don't think he did enough to displace Hutchings. Shuey in.

If Ryan is fit (and it looks like he will be, touch wood), he comes in for Darling. If he is not fit, then bring in Petruccelle.

We missed Masten's run in the 4th quarter last week. He also looks to be fit, so I'd bring him in for one of Jetta or Nelson. Nelson has impressed me more in recent games, so I'd keep him.

3 changes is plenty.

Sheed -> Shuey
Darling -> Ryan (alt. Petruccelle)
Jetta -> Masten

Jetta -> Masten???

The SCG is a small circle. Disposal from defence/behind sets up a kick to a forward in a scoring position. Do we need the elite long kick allowing Hurn to contest or the run all day to create the link up?

We brought in the extra defender (Nelson) last week for Masten, this just reverses that. So I don't see the problem with the change from a structural point of view.

I'm not sure what you mean by Jetta "allowing Hurn to contest" - I'd prefer our other defenders take the contests and Hurn be the one kicking off our halfback line.

The SCG is short, sure, but it is wide and its overall surface area is roughly the same as Subi. There is plenty of room to benefit from sustained running, particularly with the high pressure contested style that Sydney bring. They won't let us play kick to kick. Masten, like Gaff, Duggan, etc stays out on the ground for longer which frees up a bench spot for our impact players to have a breather.

I'm also not convinced that Jetta is fully fit. He was in great from over the preseason and in the first 4 rounds, then missed Carlton due to injury, came back against Freo and played pretty good but obviously wasn't 100% as he missed the next 2 weeks with calf soreness. His 3 games since have been underwhelming. Maybe the bye will sort him out, maybe he needs the extra week, maybe I'm wrong and he's just had a down month, I don't know.

If Brander comes in then Id like to see him play Watermans role and Jake Play Jacks role. It wouldn't be a bad idea lessening Jake's work load a bit and plus Brander him self said this “If I played for the Eagles I’d probably look to play a bit higher up the ground and be the connector from the back line to the wing sort of position".
100% agree, with his tank and exceptional kicking skills he'll be perfect for that role. Plus Waterman slightly bigger body. Sydneys back 6 are pretty tight so he'll better off up the ground.

Some people want a lot of unforced changes to a side that's 10-1.

Wow Suma you've gone full spreadsheet these days huh

Yeah I'm embracing the football nerd lifestyle. I just can't stop adding tabs to my eagles spreadsheet.

I figure I'm in stage 1 of my addiction:
  1. SHOCK & DENIAL-
  2. PAIN & GUILT- ...
  3. ANGER & BARGAINING- ...
  4. "DEPRESSION", REFLECTION, LONELINESS- ...
  5. THE UPWARD TURN- ...
  6. RECONSTRUCTION & WORKING THROUGH- ...
  7. ACCEPTANCE & HOPE

I doubt Ryan will come straight in and Jaymie Graham alluded to as much on radio a couple of weeks ago. However, that was before JD got injured.

One thing is for sure - if we play Ryan and he has low impact, there will be a torrent of abuse aimed at MC for rushing him back even though its pretty unanimous that supporters want him in :rolleyes:

Not really.
Darling out- injured = forced
Shuey back from Injury
Masten back from injury

Shuey is an automatic in everyday of the week and Masten's role this year has him as best 22 (in MC eyes at the very least) so guys have to make way for them. Neither Masten or Shuey are forwards so cant come in for Darling.

I'd say none of these are unforced changes. Masten was there for 9 of the 10 wins, Darling 10 of 10 and Shuey our best mid.

The forced change is Darling out and Shuey in. Others want more than that.

I assume neither Masten nor Ryan will be ready.
