What is significant this year is we have controlled the tempo a lot.
Tempo Footy is a tactic losing teams like Richmond use.
It may work against bottom 6 teams but it won't work against Sydney.

We move the ball fast and play a very exciting brand of footy. Crows just applied good defensive pressure all around the ground and worked back to cover the corridor. At times we have played scintillating fast attacking footy, just ask North! I am not surprised we are currently sitting 4th in points for. We own the corridor when we are given space.
Where I think we can improve is defensive pressure across the whole ground, the sort that Hawthorn/Geelong/Freo/Sydney can apply. That's what separates us from the best teams. Tackling, harassing, giving the opposition no time to execute their skills. This will come in time as the boys mature, get fitter and get more games into them. We are still talking about kids that are beginning to mature.
I can not fault the way McKenna has coached, the side he is creating and the game plan we are developing, it is exciting and we are getting better all the time. Bring on 2015/2016. But for now loving the week to week improvement while trying not to get too far ahead of where we are really at. Finals and our ladder position are exciting but we musn't forget these blokes are still a few seasons away from their best footy. Carn Suns.

What's the heat map for the 10 rounds? Why isolate to 1 match? We all know Ablett was sore and a shadow of himself (but what a shadow!)

Avoiding the contest? Gary had 18 contested possessions (more than anyone else) and six tackles against the Crows. If anything, he was the one diving in the hardest.

He was tagged heavily by the Crows who limited his influence. That doesn't mean he was avoiding the contest.

You didn't seem to have any problems with our game plan in the North game? I think your overexaggerating how much the top teams use the corridor.

I expect the same problem as last week. To few willing to go in and get the hard ball. Sydney Swans are a bunch of hard nuts and every single one of them is willing to crack in and put there body on the line in the contest. We have far to many passengers currenlty in this department and it can't be up to Swallow/Ablett/Prestia to do it all. Size isn't really an excuse when the 73Kg of Jack Martin plays fearlessly and collects big tackle numbers.

Need more of an effort from our second tier players if we are going to have a chance this week.

He was well off his game and not a reflection of the 22 that played against Adelaide, not sure I follow your conclusion?

Agree, was still a very important cog, 18 contested possessions speaks for itself.As I said yesterday, he must be so sore, no other player in the comp is copping this sort of physical tagging by not only one player on him but by players all over the ground.

great comments . fully agree. One comment I wish to make, is all the negative comments on Hall. I think he is a gun in the making. Great speed, agility and classy,and he contested and laid some hard tackles at times during the Crows game and yes I see he also stood away from some contest, hoping the ball would come his way . Dropping him to the ressies would not be a good move. As you said , A heap of these guys are in learn mode, and learning is what they are doing. We continue to improve at a great rate of knots, but it takes time hey. Getting Thompson and Bennell back is crucial. . And I still think we need to recruit two or three 120 plus gamers for next season .For example, a Del Santo, ...the Kangaroos got him from St.kilda, and its been a bonus, as is Melbournes recruiting of Daniel Cross, ( ex Bulldogs ) , .
Tongue in cheek, but what about Jeremy Cameron (GWS), not wanting to renew his contract with them at the moment.!!!

yes, what im saying is to recruit some guys with a minimum 120 games experience.... could be a guy with 180 games experience. As for my examples, its only a example, but don't tell me a player like Del Santo wouldn't be a asset on game day for the Suns.All im getting at is the fact we need to recruit a player, players with experience .

Expecting a much bigger challenge from the Suns than what Geelong gave us. Your mob is third in clearances I believe (can be a misleading stat, but whatever) and our midfield is the reason behind our climb since round 5.

At best I can see a 5 goal win to the Swans but at home the Suns are a sneaky chance imo.

Ok,.. I've now watched the replay. (very different take on the game compared to watching it at the game)
I'll take my call to drop Hall back. He seems a little gutless but I kind of get the vibe he's been told to wait for the ball to come out and be an outside runner, He didn't have a great game but I think we all know what he is capable of.
Lynch didn't have a huge game either, Very well held by Talia, but we didn't really go to him when going forward.
The only changes I'd be too concerned with is the defenders & of course Harley in if he's fit.
Hopefully Rory is ready to return as we were exposed as short in defence and as we know the swans forward line is much better than Adelaide's.

this game could be a win for the suns this week. looking at the momentum of the swanks i see a team that is building in confidence. these swanks played last thursday night. then they play on the sunday. that to me is a long break. not all breaks can be good for a team which needs momentum. i think there main weekness is the fact that they are playing port the following week and they will gearing up for that instead of a full blown assult on the suns.
if the whether stays the same as predicted, this too could hold some weight if the suns favour. warm and humid arvo with a late shower/storm.

McKenzie out for a few weeks possibly with that arm injury. Hall has been poor the last few weeks. Sexton not up to it at this stage, Cameron would get monstered by the Swans forwards.

Ins would be determined if they are okay to play or not. Want to see Leslie line up on Buddy, Thomspon on Tippet and May on Goodes. I want to see how Leslie goes after hearing about his speed for such a big bloke and I think he may be able to handle buddy on the run. Tippet has been their number one target FF and I think Thompson has great aerial abilities to help combat the long ball that Tippett will be receiving. May just has compete with Goodes who is getting soft in his old age, a few bumps and hard tackles and Goodes will go missing.

Thing with Leslie is that aerobically he is still quite a bit behind. He did not go through the traditional TAC programs and as such didn't have a full pre-season. Very modified to ease him into the load.

That said, he has been running out games well in the NEAFL. But will that mean he can keep up with Buddy?
