Round 21, 21st August 2004 - Full back Matthew Croft boots a surprising 5 goals, after being overlooked for selection most of the year.

Round 23 , 17th August 2025 - After being overlooked for selection most of the year Jordan Croft, a surprise addition to the Bulldogs lineup......

That was MC's last game, and this is JC's first. The energies are immaculate.

Swapping Buss for Croft isn't exactly going smaller though. If it were that we'd go with more of a medium like Sellwood or bring Duryea back as a small?

Also Croft hasn't played back in the 2s for ages. And we're already losing a forward in VDM.

If that is happening, we must be making another change also to make it fit IMO.
Sorry I might not have been clear enough. Croft would be playing forward

So we would definitely be smaller down back

Poulter to sub or Poulter to wing would be another resultant move

Also Bevo sounded like the Treloar possibility would be a state league move more than afl this week. I believe from prior pressers this is due to vfl finals eligibility

4:40pm on a Sunday, presumably the ridiculous start time is to maximise WA viewing audiences.

For those with young kids & school on a Monday, its irritating.

If it was a 3.15pm game, I could do it.

7pm, i would be a hard no.

4.40 , it's a teaser. I could do it. But it stuffs up my Sunday night routine.

Agree it is not the greatest time. Would definitely be related to WA viewing audiences.

The game has to be a Foxtel game as Channel 7 would be apoplectic getting the Eagles on their only Sunday game so the 1.10 start time is an 11.10 start in WA

I reckon it will just be Vanders out for Croft, with Croft as sub.
Hoping we are not rushing him. And I feel some others have been stiff to miss out with longer periods of form.
Keen to see the debut regardless and hope he does well.

Gee people are letting a bad bounce dictate their view of Buss. Up until the bad bounce of the ball he had probably had less mistakes than JOD.

Let’s not also forget their last goal was a result of a ball bouncing over dales head because he attacked it and had front position bad bounces happen.

Buss reads the play exceptionally well. Atm he is getting across and spoiling with confidence at the level he will start marking instead. He gets caught out 1v1 against bigger or older opponents at time. His kicking has been on par.

Jones is on the decline, he reads the ball just as well as Buss but rewatch the Brisbane game his body didn’t allow him to get to the contest and he got caught in no man’s land. His kicking is at par with Bus maybe slightly less. One on one he still has the strength to compete with most players.

Honestly there isn’t much between them atm but Bus is on an upwards trajectory whilst jones is on a downward one. Clearly you need to weigh up whether jones experience outweighs his decreasing athleticism to do his role.

Personally I would prefer Bus get the experience as I don’t think we can win it this year (hope I’m wrong) but with the internal improvement and investing in our defence I think we can challenge next year
Yes i agree

It's good to see Crot get a game but don't understand why bevo doesn't give Jamarra a run in the tow's it"s like he doesn"t want play him

For those from Geelong way, who are planning to come up to the game on the weekend. There are buses instead of trains for the entire weekend. I will probably drive all the way to Werribee* and train it in from there. Since buses take an hour and half to complete all stops if its not a direct route to Geelong.

*FFS: Also works on the Werribee line. So need to get off one train and onto another, with the whole trip seemingly an extra 20 minutes or so.
Check out the ferry, mit might work for you.
